I have the same pen (black with gold-coloured trim) and I must, it puzzles me as to why Parker didn't make the nib the same gold colour as the trim! That's my only complaint about the I.M, which would make a nice gift for someone who is looking for a classy-looking 'starter' fountain pen. Thanks for the review, Stephen!
I was given one of these for a birthday present. Looked great in twin in a gunmetal barrel and chrome cap. Although smooth I found the section often unscrewed from the barrel as I wrote. But, given the classy look at an affordable price I did buy another black with chrome trim version which I only use for the signing of marriage registers when I take weddings. Thanks for the review
Hi Stephen!I own a Parker IM in Gunmetal finish but i hate the metal grip at this pen because it is slippery.I write a lot and many times my hands sweats especially summer and the grip becomes more slippery and i hate that.Could you give me some advices on how to stop or reduce this phenomenon? Is there any substance or anything to apply on the grip in order to reduce the fact that it is slippery? Thanks in advance.I really admire your work with FPs and i love your videos.Best regards from Romania
I went to my local pen shop today to get one of these based on your review of the IM. They did not have one so I bought a sonnet instead at an amazing price, about 50% of the price I see online. Thanks for the review!! I love my new pen!!
Hi, I bought fine nib. Works good for me. Yes, there is some skiping, but very little I'd say. I guess it somewhat depends on how you hold it. The nib is pretty smooth, since I'm using relatively dense paper (80 gsm), the pen works fine for me. You may try to make it smoother on very fine grit sand paper (grit 2000 at least).
Hi Stephen! Any chance you might do a demo on something basic like loading a twist converter into a Parker IM and drawing ink? And possibly flushing the pen as well? Or perhaps you've already done such a video and I haven't found it yet?
Does your Parker IM dry up quickly and hard start after only a day of rest? If yes, then close (use tape or similar) the hole under the clip. Yes, there is huge hole under it which causes the pen to dry very quickly.
Hi, Stephen! I'm thinking of buying the Parker IM, the cheapest one of the IM range. Do you recomend it or do you recomend something else in the same prince range ($35.57- $45). If So What? Thanks, Robert!
Hi Stephen , I have the exact same pen that you have shown .. I like how it writes but it has major start up issues .. I checked the nib and the feed , i couldn't find any gap or separation where ink could dry up .. any ideas on what could be wrong .. I have tried several different inks and cleaned it thoroughly.
Hey Stephen, if you could please review a Parker Duofold that would be greatly appreciated; I am torn between the Duofold and its Pelikan M800 rival. I eagerly await your response. In the meantime, keep up the stellar work!
Just a suggestion: maybe you could include some info as to the balance of the pens while posted and unposted, i.e. top-heavy, well balanced, etc. For most pens, it's balanced to suit most people, but what really struck me was the balance of my Targa, which is extremely tip-heavy unposted. My friend hated that pen on first sight, but it's my favourite go-to workhorse!
Thanks for this review. I have a Parker Sonnet, year code IN (1989), on which I have replaced the nib once due to lending it to 'a rough writer!' Apart from that, the Sonnet has performed faultlessly. I am considering an IM as a more 'everyday use' pen, and found you review most helpful. Thanks.
I have used this model and the latest model of the IM. If you can, buy the old model with the metal section. The new one I got has a much shorter and smoother section made of very slippery plastic. On a different note about the IMs, is that their feeds saturate extremely quickly in my case. Both the old and new models do. Which means that if you make even a 10-15 second pause in your writing, the next few words you write will be visibly wetter. Keep the nib up as often as you can if this is an issue.
The Charleston is a little expensive for a pen of its quality. My recommendation: get the Expert, or if you're into slim pens, the Hemisphere. They're the only pens I've seen that can be both understated and showy. The Matte Black Expert (first edition) is my go-to for black-ties. With a stub nib, it's perfect for signatures :)
Have you tried uncrewing the nib and feed unit from the section? It works on my Urban and doesn't require a significant amount of force. Grab the nib and twist.
I just bought Parker I.M. gun metal version, It's really worth the price, very good price to quality ratio!!! Smooth, no start-up problems, just as you said. Your videos were very helpful for me to choose my first fountain pen, thank you and keep up these videos! ;) Greetings from Lithuania.
I have only a few pens with metal sections. Generally, I don't like them. However I recently got a Visconti Mythos. It has a metal section that is not only metal, but is an excellent design, and I enjoy writing with it.
Thank you for your videos. I just got today my new Parker IM, as I wanted something of proper quality, but not too fancy. Your videos helped me choose.
I did remove the feed and nib, cleaned it the they you said and even used a small brush. After that i tried again, it worked well afther the first lines but then it started to skip again, I am really disapointed and sad with this :(
I have a converter but no ink bottle, i want to get one so i'll try. Using a knife sonds scarry, it's a F nib so i am afraid to ruin it. I'll try with the bottle as soon as posible. Thanks for the help.
I was thinking about this,to grind the section.Seems to be a good idea.I will try to find fine sandpaper in my town, but until then i have a Pelikan M600 fortunately. Thanks again!
This is the greatest pen reviewer ever. He displays a true natural mastery over The piston mechanism and its relationship to the reservoir in the Parker IM/or jotter. Of course we’re dealing here with a relatively simple nib, though in any case it works fairly well. His intimate knowledge of various converters is refreshing. Thank you sir.
I have approx. 5 peaces of Parker IM. My personal meaning? I am little bit dissapointed by this model. Major problem across pens is drying out of different inks than Parker in the nib (M). I used Diamine, Noodlers, Waterman. All dryed out. Parker not. Next problem what I recognized is fading of the "gold" plating. It is awful.
I have a Parker IM, and I love it, but there are a few things I don't like... first, it is really smooth on the paper, but when I write it skips a lot. Should I try to use that really thin sandpaper? Maybe it has that baby's bottom they talk so much about. And second, it doesn't take my Jinhao converter! Should I buy a Parker converter? I haven't tried to use an international standar cartridge, but if the Jinhao doesn't fit... I'm using a syringe to fill the cartridge that came with the pen... please answer me, I really love your videos, they're like an encyclopedic reference for fountain pens. :)
I am looking for a new quite cheap pen and the IM seems to be a quite good option, one of my options another is a waterman graduate in Matt black. It seems to be discontinued but I have found some on eBay being sold new. It would be great if you could do a review on this pen as well but if not, your personal opinion would be appreciated. :-)
I have this pen in a Medium nib, but have problems getting a constant flow of ink. I write in print, not cursive. So, when I start writing, I get two thirds of an S and it skips a lot. Are fountain pens made for cursive writing only? I am trying to take your advice and give the nib time, but I have refilled my converter twice, and it is still aggravating me. Thoughts??
i saw you took the converter apart in a video, how did you do this? i just pulled, nothing happened then i twisted the converter and it snapped, so i got another, but there is ink behind the piston.
Hello I just bought my Parker IM today but I did spent nearly an hour at the store deciding between it and the urban. I brought home the IM because it was significantly cheaper than the urban. Can you do a shootout or a comparison between IM and urban?
Dude I could use some help. My Waterman Hemisphere have been having some problems, it skips while writing, I mean it leaves spaces with no ink and i have to come back and write again. It stops only if i write really slow and make some presure on the paper. It does not used to do this. I use waterman cartridges, i thought there was something with it so i change it, cleaned the pen and whait. I get new cartridges and is happening again :( hope you can give me some advice
Where do I get a jeweller's cloth? And what is it that makes it able to remove discolouration? Does it have some sort of chemical in it to remove discolouration?
It seems like all the ink in my Parker IM CT gets stuck in the nib and where I hold it. I run out of ink so fast, and then when I clean it there is a massive amount of ink left in the pen. Is there something I can do to "fix" this, or a way to work around it?
Hi I just got this the other day and it came with a M size nib. I prefer using fine size nib, so is there a fine size nib replacement out there for this pen?
Hi, I just recently got a Parker IM and when I put in the included ink cartridge and started writing, the pen skipped a lot. I flushed out the pen with water and tried again and while the skipping was reduced, it is still very annoying and difficult to write with. Do you have any suggestions on how to fix this?
Hi I love your reviews, what sort of a FP would you recommend that is not too expensive and is heavier and larger than your normal FP as i have big hands. Thanks
Hi, I happen to have the exact same pen with same trim (gold coloured). I've noticed that this pen's trim has gotten discoloured/corroded. Is that the same for you? I've had this a month ago, but discolouration happened in about 1-3 weeks since I've bought it.
I'm not entirely sure, Stephen, but I'm from Liverpool (England) and I pronounce Diamine "Dee-A-Mean" however my accent doesn't sound completely Liverpudlian (I speak of my home city because Diamine Ink is based in Liverpool and its name was changed from T. I must tell you I really like the way you start your videos pointing at the camera! That is so cool! It is a nice greeting! Thank you for the GREAT Service you provide, doing all the great reviews you do!
But please also suggest me a good and reliable daily writing parker fountain pen . I just use parker beta standard fountain pen. but it is a wet pen. And then i tried camlin kokyou elegante that is better than parker beta. Now i have ordered parker vector. Let see how does it write
I've bought a few fountain pens after watching your reviews. I'm going to buy that exact one now. I think it looks the best out of the other colors. Can't go back to ball pens. I've got quite a few and they just sit in my pen case at work. Thanks.
My came today. I think it feels a bit cheap. The hollowed out arrow doesn't look good and the pen rattles when I shake it. It skips too; a lot more than I expected. I'd say it writes about the same a the big Jinhao pen but doesn't look or feel as good. Hopefully it'll wear in.
porsche makes a nice looking fountain pen. that only costs about 125 to 225 if you get the gold nib. so not too expensive.would you review that pen for me. if not its okay. i really enjoy watching your videos on foutain pens. i also wouldnt mind seeing more dip pen/glass pen writting. i love dip and glass pens to death.
I got one of these for Christmas from my son, together with a bottle of undrinkable whisky. I like the pen, though it didn't come with any cartridges, but instead a rollerball refill...Hmmm.
Get the Prelude. I have both, of the same vintage, and the Parker IM counts as the worst example of anything I have ever bought. It simply does not work. My Prelude writes first time, all the time.
I hope to se Charleston and Expert waterman fountain pens review, sorry if they happen to be expensive, they are for me but you have some mont blanc (they are waaay to expensive for me) so i hope you get at least one of these some day :D I have parker IM but in ballpoint pen :(
Thanks you just identified my pen. The pen in the video and the one i bought at a watch shop that happened to sell pens look near i denticle. Only diference is mine has a textured chrome cap and a textured black chrome body. Same nib same grip same tip and same ends.
sbrebrown Okay because I messed up my metropolitan nib, and now it's really scratchy. I was thinking of upgrading but it might be better to just stick with the Metropolitan if there's no performance benefits in the Parker IM. Thanks,
xXGe0rgEXx I would contact Pilot and see what they can do to fix it. If they cant try this Nib Mister! Mike it Work: www.mikeitwork.com/ Pilot US: pilotpen.us/customer-service Pilot UK: www.pilotpen.co.uk/en/contacts/
I actually use both. My Platignum Studio has bottledd ink because the cartridge is finicky. Oh, and sometimes I fill my Lamy Safari with Noodler's Blue Black because I get so sick of just blue and black and I hate Lamy's blue black.
I like the click of the cap and solid metallic sound when one unscrews the body from the section . Cheap and reliable pen
I couldn't really use fountain pens in school, so I'm debating on getting the Parker vector ballpoint or roller ball, which would you prefer.

Boerje69 what is the purpose of the hole?
Interesting I noticed this about my Im I will go check
@@SoulEater090 I think it’s to prevent choking... I think there was some Eu regulation about this.

Hello, nice review.
Has the section of the Parker IM the same width as the Waterman Hemisphere? Wich one of these 2 writes the smoothest?
Hello, the nibs on the Parker Vector and this Parker IM look identical to me; would you say they're the same nib, or is the IM's nib smoother?
Hey Stephen, if you could please review a Parker Duofold that would be greatly appreciated; I am torn between the Duofold and its Pelikan M800 rival.

Keep up the great work, you've inspired me to work on my script.

The only parker pen I have is the Vector. How do you think this pen compares to that? Smoothness, feed, etc.
This pen has the same nib, but a much heavier and larger body.

Thanks for the reply! If it has the same nib, I much rather get a different pen.

Do the Parker converters fit this pen? I was reading some reviews and some say that it didn't fit the IM.
ive been thinking about getting this pen. i wanted to get the TWSBI diamond 540 but i have to buy a new phone so i might look into this
I finally got a converter for my Parker IM I got the standard converter... Is it normal or has anyone experienced when you move the pen it rattles?

Parker IM or Nemosine Singularity? I can't decide between them lol

Should I go for the fine or medium?
That depends on the size of your handwriting: bigger handwriting requires a broader nib grade.
But please also suggest me a good and reliable daily writing parker fountain pen . I just use parker beta standard fountain pen. but it is a wet pen. And then i tried camlin kokyou elegante that is better than parker beta. Now i have ordered parker vector. Let see how does it write

I have parker IM but in ballpoint pen :(
Fine nib too. Strange, I have no problems with it. Try to smooth it on a very fine grit sand paper.
Hi! Can you find this pen in different pen sizes? Thanks! :)
Thanks you just identified my pen. The pen in the video and the one i bought at a watch shop that happened to sell pens look near i denticle. Only diference is mine has a textured chrome cap and a textured black chrome body. Same nib same grip same tip and same ends.
In your opinion what is the best cheaper pen companies?
Lamy and Kaweco make good entry level pens.
I would be interested in a lamy dialog 3 review
This is my favorite pen. I liked your review.
Does the pen come with any ink source?
Does this come with a piston covertor ? Pls reply
No.
Would you say the parker IM is noticeably better then the pilot metropolitan?
No, I would not.
sbrebrown Okay because I messed up my metropolitan nib, and now it's really scratchy. I was thinking of upgrading but it might be better to just stick with the Metropolitan if there's no performance benefits in the Parker IM.
Thanks,

I would contact Pilot and see what they can do to fix it. If they cant try this Nib Mister! Mike it Work: www.mikeitwork.com/ Pilot US: pilotpen.us/customer-service Pilot UK: www.pilotpen.co.uk/en/contacts/
I'll try, thanks. BTW many IM owners are complaining about nib problems on their pens..
What does the weird intro mean?
I actually use both. My Platignum Studio has bottledd ink because the cartridge is finicky. Oh, and sometimes I fill my Lamy Safari with Noodler's Blue Black because I get so sick of just blue and black and I hate Lamy's blue black.
