I LOVE the fact that you referenced The Thing...because I'm not even going to lie. The second I saw you did Arctic, my initial thought was "I need to comment on how I bought Arctic sets just because I wanted to try to replicate The Thing!" LMFAO! Now I also found myself picking up some Arctic themed stuff, be it the classic or more modern, to sort of create a Mr. Freeze gang for Lego Batman.
The reason why I know some of these 90's/early 2000's lines like Artic, Insectoids, Adventure, Xalax and Life on Mars is because of Lego Racers 2. Never had the toys from those lines because they were a little before my time but because of those games I fell in love with them. Good times
I loved this set growing up. Then again, I was a weird boy growing up. I wasn't all about good guys vs. bad guys, exploration and exploring the unknown was my jam. Scientists were my heroes.
It's so funny. I hadn't remembered that I even used to have one or two little sets of this until you brought it up in an earlier episode. Now I even remember the TV commercial and I can picture my little self playing with all the different LEGOs I had. I never collected anything in particular, most of the stuff was given to me for birthdays and such occasions. Some of the late 90ies / early 2000s sets were so cool :D Thanks for restoring my memory of some good parts of my childhood!
You obviously didn't have any of the older stuff if you think the sets from about 97-05 were cool. Those years were the reason why I got out of Lego up until a couple years ago. Throwbots/Slizers, introduction of Bionicle (seriously, I must be like the only one in the world who hates Bionicle with a passion) , killing off most of the classic themes, Sports, Time Travel/Twisters, the Movie Maker sets, and the introduction of the new expensive licensed themes (Lucasfilm and Batman and crap). They dramatically dropped the piece counts by using oversized, specialized pieces and jacked up their prices. I had a race car transport with 2 cars that I'd be willing to bet maybe had 50 pieces. Or maybe 75... I don't remember. And it was like 30 bucks or something. Got it as a gift and it was one of like the last 4 sets I got until I sold my entire collection (still kicking myself for that... I sold everything for 200 when I should have asked 3 times that as current selling prices are almost 2 grand). Nowadays Lego has the opposite problem. Prices are high because part counts are high. Why? Because they use too many smaller pieces. Why use a 2x8 when we can use 2 2x3s and a 2x2? Or a 1x8 instead of 4 1x2s? It's baloney. And too many licensed themes and not enough original designs outside of City and Ninjago.
I don't have much to ay on Arctic as a theme. I think the theme looks cool (no pun intended), and I like the idea of the most recent wave finding animals from the Ice Age. All we need is a tall sloth and we'd have the original Ice Age trio in LEGO form... kind of.
I remover finding out about the original arctic in a book at my school library years after it come out. The idea of the minifigures searching for aliens in the ice always fascinated me. It seemed like I always learned about lego themes from books I read, like ones about Bionicle
I have all of the newest Arctic sets on display on my Lego room. Arctic has always been one of my favorite themes for the color palette and sense of adventure, and the addition of prehistoric creatures in the latest iteration adds to it even more.
Star Wars was and always will be my favorite, but the original Arctic series, along with Aquazone, Rock Raiders, Alpha Team and Johnny Thunder series’ were huge parts of my childhood because my parents essentially got every set in the series each Christmas from like 97-02 (definitely was a spoiled kid). I totally got out of Lego by 2006 and just got back into it in like 2019. Been wanting to build some MOCs now.
I loved looking at the _Arctic_ sets in the catalogues, though I only ever owned the set with the sail (6579). As with the modern incarnation of _Divers,_ I like that _Arctic_ has made a comeback.
oh wow this is awesome! I always had a fascination with the tundra and snow as you do with the ocean. I didn't even know the early 2000s sets were a thing! I only knew about the newer stuff. I might have to get some off bricklink. thanks man!
I appreciate you pointing out the original theme's whole deal with the colour balance and how minifigs stand out in it. Until now I never really knew why I liked it so much in Lego Racers 2 as a kid - sure, I love winter, but it couldn't have been just that, and it wasn't. And for what it's worth, the smaller piece count resulted in chunkier sets, in giant windshields on slightly rawed down vehicles that you just wouldn't see now and I think that was also part of the charm for me
Man, you're setting off some serious nostalgia by reminding me of these sets I had when I was a kid, heck, I even splurged and bought some Mission Deep Sea sets that I had all those years ago.
I only got one of these sets (the transport plane) but it was a birthday gift from one of my friends who had spent his own money on it and it made it that much better. I still have it on its own shelf go this day
I remember seeing these when I was a kid and wanting them all haha "The thing" or "deadspace 3" ish vibes is what I think of now when I see these arctic sets
damn you made me a happy gril with that toy story 2 game OST i really loved this game on ps1, kept on deleting my save accidentally (srsly who designed this clunky ass menu??) so i played it through like five times still it never got boring (and the jackhammer in the construction yard level is still creepy) but i digress i love arctic, had some small sets back in the day. the tiniest ones in fact. the single snow mobile and the thing with the sail. pretty cool, always adored these because of the pretty colours. i still regret not having gotten anything from the 2014 arctic sets but DAMN youre right with the dark blue. the new ones really look better with dark blue in contrast to the orange. i never would have noticed im actually glad they brought arctic back this year, i think as soon as i have money again, ill treat myself with a tiny set. i love this little ice glider or what was it called? it reminds me of the blizzard baron from ice planet (looks kinda similar with that canopy dontcha think?) but i also adore the set with the 2-person snow mobile that comes with this TINY CUTE HUSKY FIG well, i will decide later^^ already looking forward to the next episode, i never touched lego sports but i remember it vividly i always kinda wanted to have the sets but at the same time not so much so... well... skipped it completely ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
lel didnt even mean that but you're right! it might be a mix between blizzard baron and celestial sled :D but seriously if you compare those arched canopies... :D
I remember the smaller Arctic sets well, and I bought a smaller new set and enjoyed it. And I do hope more success stories like this comes more often! Maybe more detailed polar bears...
The original Arctic theme had some interesting similarities to Rock Raiders, in fact as a 5 year old at the time I remember mixing and matching parts from sets I had of both themes. Both themes had an emphasis on mining and exploration in extreme environments, though Arctic was more subtle with the whole transparent bug thing. And idk if it was more a stylistic choice or a product of it's time but Arctic didn't seem to try too hard to replicate real-world arctic buildings and machinery. Arctic's buildings for example draw some design cues from real life Antarctic prefab buildings but feature big chunky elements that bring to mind some of Rock Raiders' building designs, and a few more fantastic elements like neon satellite dishes and that huge transparent blue dome. And notice how a lot of the Arctic vehicles don't even have an obvious means of propulsion, just skis to show that they're meant to travel over snow. Your imagination was meant to fill in the gaps.
I had two of the smallest snow mobile sets from the OG arctic. I really liked the aesthetics of the theme too, but back then I wasn't in the position to pursue sets, and the two I got were both gifts from separate people If I remember correctly. I am considering buying the newer sets for the pieces. Like those huskies, they are adorable!
In my opinion this is the best theme so underrated and the best part I have all the 2014 and 2028 sets and the new small snowmobile set playing to get the boat and mobile base
now if only these builds were more sci-fi then i could see these make a comeback, like a half ice planet half artic frozen apocalypse theme would be nice.
Love it man! Found one of the old artic sets years ago in a little shop in Germany, kick started my interest in the older sets! And just got a haul from lego with 4 of the new wave, the artic scout is a gem, if a little pricey for what it is, £40
I really like the old and new Arctic sets very "cool"😎 I'm hoping they do a cross-over set that's a crew digging up a frozen UFO out of the ice with a couple of aliens preserved inside the ship! Yea that would be sick homes 👍
I had only two arctic sets when the first sets came out i loved them to death i wish i had the lego arctic base i recently saw the new lego arctic theme and im forsure getting the one with the lego mammoth a must for me
I remember finding that set 6586 (I actually have no idea what it's supposed to be :p) at a LEGO convention a year or two back for only about £18! I do actually love the design of that set, as it feels as though it has lots of playability with it.
Funny that you mentioned hopefully getting more underwater sets soon, considering that this year they've made more undersea sets for the town theme just 2 years after this was made.
As I said before, they were on my top 3 of sets. I got so sad when they discontinued them! While I agree that the number of pieces was kinda low, I really dig the aesthetics of it, they loocked rugged, just as arctic vehicles actually are. And using chainsaws for the snowmobiles was genious! Much better than the black slope pieces they use now. But yeah, I always wondered how those vehicles featuring only skis on all four corners got to move...
Nick 2018: Oh well, at least it won't be long before we get some divers sets if Arctic Life Cycle is any indication LEGO 2020: May I introduce you to DEEP SEA EXPLORERS?? Nick is such a visionary, he predicted it so well. I had 1 arctic set: 6573 Arctic Expedition (2000), which was a snow plow. Very similar build to 6453 Com-Link Cruiser (1999) and 6774 Alpha Team ATV (2001), which I also had, and at the time I didn't mind the "simplistic" approach even though I could build much more complex models. It's so cool (PUN INTENDED) to see this theme revisited here, thanks for the LEGO Rewind!
Well, to be fair to the whole thing about that technic line... when you're somewhere that cold, you don't want there to be holes in anything you might be inside! :D ...and that.... that tiger looks more Siberian than Sabretooth. You can trust me, I've had the privilege to know a few.
I love the animals that come with Arctic (Huskys, Mammoths, even the Polar Bear outdated as it is) but beyond that they didn't interest me that much. Similar colors could be found in varrious Space lines and their enjoyment very much came out of getting a bunch of them for a display. That said, the Racer's level was one of my favorites, and i think this enviroment is great for setting stories.
The arctic could be ideal for a new lego theme , even a spiritual successor to the adventure line ! Imagine like , some relative of johnny thunder or someone else with his crew venture to the arctic and find some ancient pyramids or temples left by ancient civilizations ! I think that sounds great .
Yeah, imagine if the place was once a desert (or a rainforest) and all that's left are ruins from that bygone epoch. (and if they want to make it a conflict driven theme, giant mutated megafauna from the time not unlike the "dark guardians" from Atlantis!)
Here's hoping for ice planet, that set was the first time I could have a "big" set (that big spaceship that could separate into 4 pieces + a small ship and reassemble in couple ways), so it's incredibly nostalgic to me. It also had chainsaws, which is awesome.
Yes but does it have
ORANGE
TRANSPARANT
CHAINSAWS
?
Mammoth set has been half price on Catch for months... and they had the secret formula all along.
I got my mammoth set for free my friend bought it for me
I LOVE the fact that you referenced The Thing...because I'm not even going to lie.
Well first off. I love this series. And second off. I love that you used the Airport Infiltration music!
It seemed fitting. I try to focus on one game/series soundtrack per vid. And thanks! I was wondering if this series caught your eye yet.
Keep up the good work!
Tell people who watch your channel about this series.
well this was unexpected to see kinda
Hey justin i didn't know your there
I hope the new sets will have
FLAMETHROWERS
AND
ALIENS
Mihály András Viola I love FLAMETHROWERS
Are the aliens from the movie "The Thing"
DragonGamer Z Yes but l would like to see some new lego aliens in the sets
you can just get custom weapons and just mist mas Lego pieces around to get THE THING
Release an Arctic set around Halloween that references the Thing
The reason why I know some of these 90's/early 2000's lines like Artic, Insectoids, Adventure, Xalax and Life on Mars is because of Lego Racers 2. Never had the toys from those lines because they were a little before my time but because of those games I fell in love with them. Good times
Yeah, I miss the days when lego would celebrate several of their original themes in one game.
Same story with me :D
same, adore the colour scheme despite orange not being one of my faviourite colours
same here on the LR2 front c:
The new arctic sets actually look amazing. The theme has so much potential
TANSPARENT, blue chainsaw?
Close enough
I like this new one and its prehistoric life. I only wish we had a museum to display it all.
Great video.
I loved this set growing up. Then again, I was a weird boy growing up. I wasn't all about good guys vs. bad guys, exploration and exploring the unknown was my jam. Scientists were my heroes.
I love "The Thing" reference, but I personally don't recall having any of this theme, I must've missed it, I'm from Europe if that makes a difference
Feel the weaver

No prob! Just don't go for broke.
I still have one of my old artic mini figures.
LEGO 2014 City artic is really nostalgic to me, i remember getting the 15 dollar truck for Christmas.
Rewatched you're videos countless times at this point. Love them a lot and very inspiring.
Yessss more LEGO rewind I love your books and videos
That snowmobile is pretty nice
This set was my very first time that my parents bought me all the sets. It was really really cool back then, I remember playing with it for days.
I appreciate you pointing out the original theme's whole deal with the colour balance and how minifigs stand out in it. Until now I never really knew why I liked it so much in Lego Racers 2 as a kid - sure, I love winter, but it couldn't have been just that, and it wasn't.

I like how Lego likes adding aliens to their themes I have always liked that. Lol
I remember getting this from my dad when he was In the hospital many years ago. I got the arctic at 2:12. Wow. So long ago. I was probably 10, or 11.
I'd really like to see you cover Knights Kingdom 1 & 2. That was one of my favorite lines as a kid and had some great sets looking back.
I will.
Oh Yes, I love this series!
Themes talked about in this video:
Technic Arctic 1987-1995 (I think)
Arctic 2000
City Arctic 2016- present day
This was a very insightful video. I honestly didn't know Lego City revived this genre. I loved it as a kid. I need to get these.
I still have it on its own shelf go this day
I remember seeing these when I was a kid and wanting them all haha "The thing" or "deadspace 3" ish vibes is what I think of now when I see these arctic sets
damn you made me a happy gril with that toy story 2 game OST
i really loved this game on ps1, kept on deleting my save accidentally (srsly who designed this clunky ass menu??) so i played it through like five times
still it never got boring
(and the jackhammer in the construction yard level is still creepy)
but i digress
i love arctic, had some small sets back in the day. the tiniest ones in fact. the single snow mobile and the thing with the sail. pretty cool, always adored these because of the pretty colours.
i still regret not having gotten anything from the 2014 arctic sets but DAMN youre right with the dark blue. the new ones really look better with dark blue in contrast to the orange. i never would have noticed
im actually glad they brought arctic back this year, i think as soon as i have money again, ill treat myself with a tiny set.
i love this little ice glider or what was it called? it reminds me of the blizzard baron from ice planet (looks kinda similar with that canopy dontcha think?)
but i also adore the set with the 2-person snow mobile that comes with this TINY CUTE HUSKY FIG
well, i will decide later^^
already looking forward to the next episode, i never touched lego sports but i remember it vividly
i always kinda wanted to have the sets but at the same time not so much so... well... skipped it completely ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Yep! The Celestial Sled. That's why I showed the two sleds back to back. Just looking at that thing, I couldn't help thinking "Hey, WAITAMINUTE...!"
lel didnt even mean that but you're right!
it might be a mix between blizzard baron and celestial sled :D
but seriously if you compare those arched canopies... :D
Oh, I see it now. Sorry, I thought you got the names mixed up but turns out it was me.
Melinda Colden the sets with tank treads are cute in my opinion.
I love this serie, it makes me so nostalgic 😍
I remember the smaller Arctic sets well, and I bought a smaller new set and enjoyed it. And I do hope more success stories like this comes more often! Maybe more detailed polar bears...
I've built a few The Thing add-ons for the huskies and polar bear from last year's Arctic sets. Lotta snakes and red binoculars.
Linked to "The Thing" - Priceless
Very excited about lego sports! I dont play sports but I had several sets of those.
Thankyou Nick!
Ahh yes, I remember getting the original large set of this. The arctic base. Wish I oculd put it back together but the stickers are long gone.
UFO was when Lego got really cool imo I loved them and those big pieces
The original Arctic theme had some interesting similarities to Rock Raiders, in fact as a 5 year old at the time I remember mixing and matching parts from sets I had of both themes. Both themes had an emphasis on mining and exploration in extreme environments, though Arctic was more subtle with the whole transparent bug thing. I loved those original sets. I had that polar bear and mobile command center. You can use your imagination for a lot back then.
I had two of the smallest snow mobile sets from the OG arctic. I really liked the aesthetics of the theme too, but back then I wasn't in the position to pursue sets, and the two I got were both gifts from separate people If I remember correctly. I am considering buying the newer sets for the pieces. Like those huskies, they are adorable!
besides Time Crusiers, this is my favorite theme you reviewed
The opening of this one is hilarious. "The artic is quiet, lonely, and barren place." Meanwhile, polar bears on a snowmobile throwing snowballs.
In my opinion this is the best theme so underrated and the best part I have all the 2014 and 2028 sets and the new small snowmobile set playing to get the boat and mobile base
These are really cool sets
I hope that hey expand more on the artic themes
I never had the 2000s Arctic sets but I remember all those vehicles from LEGO Racers 2.
Good news! Lego Arctic is back with a new more advanced 2020s tech and design. The new sets looks so good ohmahgawd 🥺
Always makes my day watching a new episode of this series!
LEGO Sports hype
Oh God those Technic hockey players.
Those faces still appear on my nightmares.
The most recent would be the exclusive minifig series I think.
Got the Arctic Station for Christmas. Luvd me sum arctic
I had the tracked snow plow set, and that one vehicle that pulls the blue enclosed trailer set as a kid
now if only these builds were more sci-fi then i could see these make a comeback, like a half ice planet half artic frozen apocalypse theme would be nice.
Love it man! Found one of the old artic sets years ago in a little shop in Germany, kick started my interest in the older sets! And just got a haul from lego with 4 of the new wave, the artic scout is a gem, if a little pricey for what it is, £40
YES! LOVED THE PIECES IN THIS LINE!
TRIassicFORCE151 I love treads
I really like the old and new Arctic sets very "cool"😎 I'm hoping they do a cross-over set that's a crew digging up a frozen UFO out of the ice with a couple of aliens preserved inside the ship! Yea that would be sick homes 👍
Haha, then it really would be "The Thing."
Nick on Planet Ripple Lol I know right!
We got city arctic in 2014 and again in 2018
We got divers in 2015 so we might get it again in 2019
"Wewind"
Keep up the great videos fam
The original Arctic set was my all time favorite! But I also liked the space stuff from around 99
Also I had 6570 and 6576, I think they were either exclusive to the catalog or they gave it as a gift if you spent a certain amount
I remember asking for some of these back in the day. Oh, how I wish I still had my big LEGO box.
After watching "A Place Further Than The Universe" I now really want some of these sets.
I had only two arctic sets when the first sets came out i loved them to death i wish i had the lego arctic base i recently saw the new lego arctic theme and im forsure getting the one with the lego mammoth a must for me
3:34 I had to rewind and listen again because I first understood: "Most men can't even see orange" haha
And using chainsaws for the snowmobiles was genious! Much better than the black slope pieces they use now. Ironic to be watching this +20 degrees(like 80-90 in feranite I think) in England
i think you mean "fahrenheit" x'D
*The Alien Husky finally appeared in LEGO Minifigures series 22 with the Snow Guardian !*
“Welcome to lego wewind” 😂 you made my day.
1:53-1:56 For those who don't know, the footage is from The Thing (1982)
The LEGO City Artic sets are really well designed. I think there's going to be at least 2 more waves of sets
Nick 2018: Oh well, at least it won't be long before we get some divers sets if Arctic Life Cycle is any indication
LEGO 2020: May I introduce you to DEEP SEA EXPLORERS??
Nick is such a visionary, he predicted it so well.
I had 1 arctic set: 6573 Arctic Expedition (2000), which was a snow plow. Very similar build to 6453 Com-Link Cruiser (1999) and 6774 Alpha Team ATV (2001), which I also had, and at the time I didn't mind the "simplistic" approach even though I could build much more complex models. It's so cool (PUN INTENDED) to see this theme revisited here, thanks for the LEGO Rewind!
2:42 now there's something I've never seen from Lego before, an Arctic submarine. I hope Lego does something like that someday.
Same.
Well, to be fair to the whole thing about that technic line... when you're somewhere that cold, you don't want there to be holes in anything you might be inside! :D
...and that.... that tiger looks more Siberian than Sabretooth. You can trust me, I've had the privilege to know a few.
The artic sets look really nice in white at 4:31.
Orange is a good color for artic explorers because it is easy for Rescue choppers to spot them.
I can just see a Lego Kurt Russell in those old sets now. I would die for a Lego Kurt Russell figure
0:39 oh my mom had that one!! The parts are still in a bin at my grandma's place
1:43 pause it, i had that set, can't rebuilt it now due to me tearing it apart but still have the parts
I had a ton of these! So much nostalgia :')
3:31 "It's weird and pissed off whatever it is"
6:22 SPORTS! (AUUUUUUUGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH) (YOU'LL BE GOOD AT THEM!)
Oh boy.
Welp, who would have thought that lego listened to Nick, and smashed divers and artic together on 2023?
Few bears throwing snowballs? WE NEED BACKUP! GET US OUT OF HERE!
Here's hoping for ice planet, that set was the first time I could have a "big" set (that big spaceship that could separate into 4 pieces + a small ship and reassemble in couple ways), so it's incredibly nostalgic to me.
It also had chainsaws, which is awesome.
That’s literally the first episode of LEGO rewind.
Nice to see a solid review on this theme. Maybe cover Knights' Kingdom next? Keep up the good work!
Demospammer9987 Next is sports. I said it in the video.
Nick on Planet Ripple oh, must've missed that.
Yet again, another great video!
