Hey Andry - I had pretty much the same reaction as you just that I couldn't hold back tears man, and I have a hard time crying normally - only other thing that ever managed to draw tears from me is another Dir en grey song called "mushi" - highly recommended if you haven't heard it yet! This one came as a real surprise to me even though the entire album carries this simultaneous feeling of lament and new-born hope. I've been recommending this song on a couple of reaction channels since its release but your reaction is the first one I saw. I am really happy about that because its just great to see that it has the same impact on other people :) Thank you for the upload and I will check out your other reactions soon!
I just watched your video and they ACTUALLY did this song as the opening for the Phalaris Live Tour -Final- on December 15 last year, I was there that day and it was such a hype!!
God this is such a good song. SUCH A GOOD SONG! There's a thought I had when listening to it for the first time, that only gets stronger the more often I listen. It might be super controversial among certain people familiar with j-rock in general but ... this one, at least musically, feels a tiny bit like a Gackt tribute? Like not full on because lol, but what a Dir en grey styled version of a(n at least mid-2000's era, which is when I was listening to him primarily) Gackt song might sound like. The chorus structure and riffs in particular, but *especially* the way Kyo holds out that vibrato and pulls off on the last word of the chorus. Idk, to me it was so different and so immediately recognizable? It's not really that crazy a thought, given that Gackt as the (eventually former) singer of Malice Mizer was hugely influential in the rock scene when Diru was a fresh band (I think back then they were probably a million times too cool to admit to letting such a drama queen influence them, but now they are old and established and comfortable with being drama queens themselves lbr), and also I think it was last year that he had to cease performing because of an auto-immune illness. I mean, I don't think they set out with the explicit intention to make a Gackt-y song, but they kinda did, and I absolutely fucking love this for them. If you're curious about what I mean, I'd suggest looking into Redemption or uh ... Dybbuk (that Dybbuk diabolos live is a hilarious but also kind of badass example of what an ultra extra stage presence Gackt is, as the first 6 minutes of it are literally a mini vengeance movie followed by his band riding into the hall on very real horses). There's really no other comparison between them beyond whatever influence Malice Mizer had on any baby VK band back in the day (honestly, sometimes it felt like Kyo was the only one *not* trying to emulate Gackt's vocal delivery for a bit there) and he went very pop rock where Diru went into deeper and deeper metal territory, but I thought it was worth sharing anyway. Also you might just flat out enjoy Gackt - he's a cheesy weeb of the highest caliber, but he's a phenomenal vocalist who knows how to put on an excellent show. c: Have a great day, and thanks so much for these reactions!
ETA: I ended up going through the earlier part of Gackt's discography today, to try to remember what song I thought of specifically when I heard Otogi. It was this one! ua-cam.com/video/isYuFN2ivbs/v-deo.html
Otogi is incredible, just incredible. The last song is amazing and it would be my favourite except Otogi happened. Holy shit, Kyo's fucking Voice. But seriously, the last song is pretty unreal. It's like Otogi: The follow-through.
@@1noobymedio I'm excited for you to hear it!! The songs flow so well from one into the next - sometime try listen to them together and it's soooo good. Where Otogi is powerful and Kyo's voice moves you, then his voice sinks you into a trance. Otogi is always going to be my favourite but the last song, I don't think you will be disappointed.
