Thanks for listening haha. Appreciate you guys trying to listen to our music, it's definitely a lot lol.
Love you, Dean. Archspire is the s. Coming to KC soon?
Yeahhhh it's DEEEEEANNNN 😂 😍 🤘
Dean!!!
Don't listen to them Dean! We all know this song is groovy and have amazing structure! ❤
as a fan and viewer of this channel now i know how Costanza felt. Worlds are colliding!!
There is no way they're going to like this
Lmao I literally just said that to myself as I clicked on this
Same haha
My thoughts exactly lmao
Yup, I laughed out loud when I got the alert for this - just no way. I think it’s a great song, but people have their lanes.
If only they picked a more extreme (or beautiful) song, since they probably won’t give them a 2nd listen :P
Also, the guitarist Dean is a UA-camr. He's a cool guy, he'll love this reaction! 😄
If you notice, the more melodic sections really sound like classical music.
What classical music do you think it sounds like?
It does ! The faster sections, sounds like strings in classical music just going crazy ... Just less electrical and edited
Its because of the scales used. Also, they literally quote moazrt on this album. If you dig a bit, a lot of metal takes inspiration from classical music!
@@3iurhejbveor326 Archspire is one of the best examples of what an organized musical chaos sounds like. Just like classical. I would say this would fit fast styles like Brahms, Shostakovich or even Mozart.
It's just scale runs.
Props to you guys for taking this.
I gotta keep the Undeath - It's Time to Rise from the Grave reaction train moving.
Death Metal yes, but definitely more of a traditional song structure. Groovy as hell too, for you, Ryan.
I knew you guys weren't ready. I had to watch.
U guys should just dive head first into a quick little death metal marathon while you're here. 4 more crucial bands in the genre voted by patreon. Cmon guys!
That's what I was thinking. This is on the technical or progressive side of death metal. Have these guys properly found their "gateway" band into the death metal genre ?
@@dantess2693 They seem to really like Gojira
@luke3810 yeah man, they like a lot of heavier metal but I'm not sure if they've ever gelled well into actual death metal
if you ever revisit this band I would suggest calamus will animate. A bit slower(still fast though) and far groovier. You probably won't love it but you might be able to appreciate it more.
Yes! The jazzy bass in that song so damn catchy. It doesn't go on long enough
Yeah. "Calamus" was my window into the band (admittedly, I'm not coming from Ryan and George's perspective on 'tolerabe' extreme music), but it absolutely has a hook. When George said "all about the technicality" all I could think of was "Calamus", because it absolutely has choral hooks
I would say Remote Tumor Seeker is pretty "listenable" for someone new to the band too.
If they can get past the first 20 seconds 😂
Archspire is my favorite band ever. I'm listening to them since Relentless Mutation. (2017)
Everytime I show this band to someone and watch them melt away and not know how to respond...I'm excited to see this. Good on you guys for getting outside of the comfort zone. No wonder you have 1.27M subs
Awesome. I dunno what's better, Archspire songs or watching people hear em the first time!!😂
Archspire is one of those bands where the first time blows your senses away but then you hear even more and more technique as your ears train in on the incredible groove but honestly not sure why this one was recommended. They have much better relatable songs with all the more listenable structure that you’d expect while still maintaining an Archspire uniqueness
I very much appreciate the fact you may not like the music but recognize it takes skill. Keep up the good work.
You guys should have watched the video. These guys are amazing musicians. Every one of them.
I like this song a lot, really nice to see you guys react to it, was fun!
finally, amazing reaction!! thanks
It’s more about pushing boundaries than showing how well they can play.
The metal community is a very big family of people from every walk of life and in our community there is no discrimination against anyone. We have punk rock fans, goths, and more. I do appreciate your honesty though in this genre of music.
That song sailed miles over your heads.
Miles.
I already knew this reaction was gonna be wild lmao. Hell, you don't even gotta like it, I know what it probably sounds like to others, the fact that you even gave it an honest chance is dope.
As far as this song, in my opinion, it is pretty refined & perfected. Well, about as much as you can be at this speed & intensity. Like, this is one of their more catchy songs, if you can believe that lol. With Remote Tumour Seeker probably being *the* catchiest.
But yeah, Archspire is like the pinnacle of speed+technicality+brutality+a hint of catchiness. The other tech death bands out there are definitely more toned down, but still pretty wild at times. But, I think you're spot on with it being like a rap cypher or something, cuz at this level, it's def meant to be a showcase of skill. Vocals and all with Archspire. Which you don't see too often in tech death, mostly the instruments are going crazy while the vocals are kinda playing the supporting role.
And, like others have said, some major inspiration here is Tech N9ne, as well as classical music. Kinda weird to think about, huh lol.
There's a "vocal playthrough" video for Lucid Collective Somnambulation where he actually goes into his inspiration and technique. You definitely won't like the song, but it might be a neat thing to check out at some point.
There's also a video like that for a song called Calamus Will Animate, and the song's intro is literally an ode to Stamina by Tech N9ne, it's kinda funny.
Respect to Archspire!!!
It's so refreshing to hear people being honest! I really like this band and believe it or not I think they're one of the best at being musical within this genre but I get that it's a lot for a first-time listen lol 😂
You guys need to do a song off the new Cattle Decapitation album "Terrasite"
Definitely! I think any song could be a fine choice, the whole album is consistently great throughout.
@Bart G It really is. There is not a bad second on Terrasite. I can't stop listening!
Man I love this band. The riffs they got are sick.
When I first started listening to Archspire I thought it was gunna be a band that I could only handle in small doses and then I kept listening and kept listening and it got addictive.
YOOOOOOOOO NEVER THOUGHT ID SEE THIS
I think you guys should try Whitechapel out probably
“I will find you”
would be a good start not as extreme as this but still very heavy. Just as an exposure to something on the heavy side that isn’t just chaos for 4 mins or so lol.
Yes. I didn't like tech death at first but loved death core, especially melodic deathcore, like The Black Dahlia Murder and Whitechapel. I eased into my love for tech death starting with The Faceless.
cattle decapitation isnt pure tech death like this and has more atmosphere, scourge of the offspring would be a good one to check out
Wasn't expecting to see this! I love Archspire! 🤯🤯🤘🏻🤘🏻
You really have to watch them play and pull this off live to really appreciate what they’re doing. They’re gnarly
I appreciate you guys checking out Archspire. They're one of my favorite bands. Admittedly, their play style is pretty chaotic, lol. If you're open to suggestions, I would recommend Involuntary Doppelganger by Archspire. The play style and vocals will still be similar, but it's probably gonna be a bit easier for you guys to catch a groove and/or melody. Either way, I appreciate y'all's videos as always. Keep doing what you do!
I'd really love for you guys to get more familiar with the heavier, faster, and/or technical underground stuff like this. Even if you don't like it, I'd love to see you guys catch and hear your thoughts on the groove, melodies, and intricacies in these songs.
There's a lot of groove and rhythm in here, it's just not always obvious and you have to really know how to catch it. I felt like George actually was catching the groove at the end there. After you catch the overarching groove you can start hearing some of the finer details and touches, and the song becomes more of a song and less of an "audition".
Been digging this band for a minute. Glad you covered these guys. Excellent Prog metal band. I get what you're saying tho. There is a difference between technical prowess and musicality. Peace!
I thought you guys would be grooving out to this 😂
You should see their music video for Drone Corpse Aviator
Extreme technical Death Metal is about pushing the limits of what can be humanly played. 20 years ago this level of drumming could only be played by a drum machine. The guitar parts weren't playable by anyone. This is just evolution in the extreme. Some songs are more groovy than others, Infant Annihilator is a band that comes to mind, but pushing the limits I the point. You asked, that's my opinion as a fan and player of the genre. This is where Mozart and Paganini have lead to. 200+ years later. Pushing the limits. Like the Olympics of musicianship in the Metal category! Love you guys, peace✌️
You can not like something but still appreciate it. kudos
"That is outrageous" Yeah, it's dirty😄
Nice reaction!🙏💯
now the faceless and the zenith passage
See to me this song absolutely has a groove. Archspire are really good at finding a groove. It's just a lot on first listen.
There is a band that is really technical but really manages to write good SONGS as well in the process. Melodic AF stuff. They're called Ophidian I and are signed to Season of Mist, the same label Archspire are on. I often describe them as what Dragonforce would sound like if they were playing technical death metal :) One of the guitarists was tapped to join Aborted after they released this album based on his talent. So, check them out please and have your say on them. Song: Spiral to Oblivion or Diamonds.
Bands like Archspire and Spawn of Possession actually do have a good amount of song structure. Maybe it just takes some getting used to. I love this band.
It's exactly what you guys are saying, tech death is basically just meant to be technically impressive even if you would just listen to it while you're chillin, much like a freestyle
😂😂😂😂 love to see it
I love metal I have all my life but this is too much for me 🤣
One. Hundred. Percent.
Just lands as silly to me but.. hey they can play.
Funny because as a Rap fan first and Metal fan second who has been absent on metal for some years (just listened to Trap metal), Archspire made me return and discover a subgenre of the metal style that I always liked (Death Metal) Technical Death metal! How as a Death Metal fan didn't know about the awesomeness of Archspire, Necrophagist, Beyond Creation, Spawn of Possession, Obscura, Origin and more?
@@KVROACEGGcheers for the bands 👍
I'll tell ya, they sound the exact same live, I was blown away. Something from Lucid Collective would have been more accessible though.
(someone basically beat me to this comment years ago, but I'll kinda just reiterate it) When it comes to all the different forms of extreme metal, I liken it to chili heads trying hotter and hotter hot sauces. You keep going down that rabbit hole until you find where your comfort zone is. Some people realize they'd rather stop at Anaheim chilis, and some others keep going for the ghost pepper. And most settle somewhere in between.
I’m surprised Lost In Vegas hasn’t listened to Suffocation yet
Bout time! Thank you guys for checking out some more extreme stuff.
These guys are not ready for this. Dude said there’s no structure. There is clearly structure, more than most metal songs I hear
They haven’t even graduated yet from Pantera and Sepultura into Obituary and Death and you guys are throwing Archspire at them. It takes a minute for the nervous system to adapt to the power
I never expected for Arcspire to reach this page.... F yeah 🤘
This a great reaction. I think there's a lot more structure, direction, and groove than it seems like at first. Like you guys said, it's a lot to absorb. And maybe it's those repeat listens where it really gels, but for me the real challenge of great tech death is that it pushes limits of speed and ability, but it still has to be melodic, it still has to have hooks, and the song still has to have a sense of direction, climax, resolution, that sort of thing.
Is that Nathan Explosion on vocals?
How"d that riff go again?
13:23
Funny that you compared Oli to rappers. Thats exactly what they were going for.
I hate to beat the dead horse on this, but, arguably technical death medal is one of the most structured genres of music, actually it is one of the most structured genres of music, but it might arguably be THE most structured genre
Best tech death band out there the melody and arrangements are beautiful. And tbh I hate death metal but love these guys. You gotta get to drone corpse aviator it’s a banger!
I guess bands like Cynic, Death and Atheist inadvertently started the tech death movement back in the early 90'es, and the boundaries of the genre got pushed further by bands like Necrophagist later on. Archspire takes the genre to it´s logical conclusion by showing just how technical you can play this genre in our day and age, and to me set the bar for everyone else to be measured right now. An acquired taste, I confess, and you can argue that the music of Archspire is 'too much of a good thing', but what you CAN'T argue, is that these guys are masters at their game, and some of the best musicians this specific genre has ever produced....
The Patreon is doing you boys dirty 😂
Archspire are incredible but there should be a warning label.
More tech death metal - check out Necrophagist, the kings!
Would LOVE to see you guys do King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard! Especially "Gila Monster" from their latest record!
Very classically oriented. A lot of the time with bands like these, they keep the same bpm throughout the song so can bob your head to that. Half time is best 🤘 This music isn't for everyone. Thanks for giving it a listen anyway. I'll sub to that.
They are the best and actually catchiest tech band I’ve heard, but I get it. Shit’s bananas!
I do think this is a decently written song for the style. It's just that as you guys mentioned you have to tune your ear to the way they go about using hooks and obviously everything just comes at you hella fast.
But if you're used to this style you can absolutely hear all the hooks and the vocals and the repeated riffs with the guitars and a few the other things that make it more cohesive than some other technical death metal because some is just a series of riffs in a row
I feel like songs of this nature take at least a second listen. Especially when like you said, you're mentally prepared for it. Hell maybe it's just a good idea in general going forward. I feel like giving songs a second listen where you guys just sit and listen and take it in before giving your overall opinion. Something like "We're gonna give it another listen and be back with our thoughts" kinda thing you know? Just a suggestion because music like this can be very overwhelming at first. Love you guys, keep'em coming!
Is there an acoustic version of this song?
Regarding this song, this is one of the most easily listenable tech deaths songs. I found it actually easy to get into. Most tech death songs are even jumblier.
i can't believe you tried Archspire lol
am i the only one who finds this band very catchy?
I'd like to echo what many others are saying in the comments, Archspire is one of the more groovy, structured, listenable tech death bands out there. The style is definitely jarring and the parts can seem random and chaotic. But damn do they know how to write a song that makes sense. I'd like to recommend Obscura for more tech-death, their style is a bit more proggy rather than straight up brutality like Archspire. It's hard to recommend individual tracks, but I'd recommend Akroasis or Ten Sepiroth off of the album Akroasis.
the second the vocals hit they are gonna be out haha
If you wanna hear the first technical death metal band, check out the either Mother Man or Piece of Time by Atheist
Archspire is the best band I have heard in a long ass time, unbelievable.
After The Burial - "Nothing Gold"
Watching the video would ve helped to comprehend the musicianship
Sólo escúchenla un par de veces más, les va a encantar.
I think comparing Technical death metal to a rap freestyle is a fair comparison. They’re both a demonstration of skill perhaps at the cost of Song craft.
That said - I do think that Technical death metal (TechDeth) is overly technical for another purpose - to explore “heaviness” by means of overload. Some metal is achieved “heaviness” With extreme lyrics, some with extremely high vocals like power metal, or heaviness by means of the lowest most cavernous notes on the guitar and sludgy grooves.
TechDeath decides to chase the conception of heaviness by overloading your mind with all the skill - SKILL is the heaviness. The thing that truly divides subgenres in metal is how they define what “heavy” means. Once you realize how they’re defining what heavy means, then you can understand why they’re doing what they are doing
I would liken tech death or Archspire in particular to chopper rap, I'm not as clued up on the diversity of chopper rap, but tech death does have many styles, my favourite being neoclassical
I haven't watched it yet but theres not a single chance in hell you'll like this lol
Honestly very fun band, I don't think they take themselves too seriously either. There are a lot of cool pockets of riffs, solos etc so it's fun to listen to
Now try Cattle Decapitation 😅
Next: Gorguts, Gorod, Car Bomb, Cryptopsy, Methwitch,
Watch drone corpse aviator ! Excellent song. Excellent video.
Do Reverie on the onyx next! It’s my jam!
It would be so nice if you branched out to post punk... like Joy Division, early Wire, The Fall, This Heat, Tuxedomoon...
The closest you went was Talking Heads, and I think you sorta liked them. But these other great post-punk(ish) bands are a world apart from each other, even further from metal, and they are very good. a deep world to get into.
Gentleman, its not freestyle. The song has its structure but its not conventional. Metal songs does not need to have a chorus or guitar solos. Art is art. The purpose is making people feel something. Try listening their album while at the gym for an example. Archspire are elite musicians and their music has drama, heaviness, speed, and other elements that you can only experience listening more than one time.
Afterall your chanel is about reactions and lots of them are a first time listening. So if you are not used to this kind of music, we have fun seeing your faces :D
I personally prefer Old School Death Metal over Tech Death even there are some Technical Death Metal bands I like for example Necrophagist, Pestilence, Beyond Creation, Nile...just to name a few but can't get into this band. I mean you can tell they are very skilled musicians but their music is very intense and complicated and not very easy to digest.
You guys should do Haken, something very different - Invasion would be a great choice =)
If you're going to go as hard as Archspire I feel like you should listen to Nile or Dying Fetus. Anything from Nile's Annihilation of the Wicked album is amazing.
Please do Lorna Shore - To the Hellfire! It's probably not your cup of tea - however, it would be especially great to see you guys' reaction to Will Ramos' vocals 🤭
I think you guys hit it right on the head, where the point is to demonstrate technical skill rather than following a traditional song structure. To my ears I think Archspire is actually one of the MORE accessible examples of the genre, and it's a subgenre that I don't think would be unfair to consider touched upon in enough capacity. I often find myself saying, "Good thing I liked that song, because every other one after it sounded just like it." But yes, your reactions to new things are entertaining, and I'm 99% sure that's why we threw Meshuggah at you as early as we did. If you did want to give it another shot, Nile are some of the OG tech death guys, and I would recommend "Papyrus Containing The Spell to Preserve Its Possessor Against Attacks From He Who Is In The Water" as a digestible example (if not title). Also anything by Cytotoxin.
And Ningen Isu.
Thank Tech N9ne, and Busta Rhymes for all of this.
P.S. Slow to me.
who. in the hell. requested this. lmfao
I would've chose seven crowns and the oblivion chain or spontaneous generation
Shoulda watched the lyric video, lol
How have you not reacted to Lorna Shore yet?
Who would have thought you would listen to this
I wonder if tech death LiV fans will ever realize that Ryan and George simply do NOT like technical metal that much lol. You know full well that they're more fans of more melodic and riffy bands like Deftones, Black Sabbath, and Alice in Chains.
If y’all were gonna throw them into the pits of Tech Death should have started with any song from Planetary Duality album by The Faceless. That’s my go to when introducing anyone to tech death.
