  • Something I struggled with early on in my shop and something I think a lot of people struggle with is charging for diagnostic testing.
I’ve been improving my systems and processes a lot since I opened my shop and have a pretty good process in place. Not perfect but has been working well for me. As always there is always room for improvement but I hope this video helps you on some way if this is an area you struggle in.
I know what that’s like but you should not be giving away the most important part of the process which is the diagnostic testing.
I would also add having the correct equipment and equipment that records does help in the process and shows and adds value.

This is the content I'm looking for. Thanks for taking the time. We all need to stick together and change the culture we have taught customers.

Agreed 100% takes an open mind to learn and the willingness to make changes and set our egos aside.

I’d love to learn more about this kind of stuff. Great information! Awesome coming from a shop owner. I’m currently in the trade as an Auto Tech. It’s been my dream to start my own shop, but there is so much I don’t know on the business side of it, since I’m always out in the shop fixing things. Haha

Keep honing your craft and get as good as you can. Start doing research now and start listening to entrepreneur podcasts and Automotive podcasts to start learning what you can.

Awesome. I've had my shop ten years, everything you said applies. Selling diagnostics properly can be difficult but necessary. Thanks.

I totally agree! Customer interaction is important & ensuring they understand the process & charges. Sometimes explaining how much our diagnostic equipment, education , training, experience costs is why we have to charge a diagnostic fee just like a Dr in fact you can call us Automotive Dr's. I know we're busy but I learned a long time ago taking the time to explain our process & explain what is wrong so they understand it pays big dividends & once you have their trust the majority bring their vehicles to us & say this is wrong, fix it & call me when it's ready to pickup.
