Question from a novice here. I've been thinking about getting the WiiM Pro Plus, but should I get the WiiM Amp instead? In other words does the WiiM Amp do the streaming and everything the Pro Plus does?
I bought one today for my bedroom TV and speakers wanted to save some money Vs the Sonos. Going to try it out. Thx for the review , I always enjoy them. 👍
Thinking about it as a desktop system running KEF Q150s, this was one of the most informative videos I have seen yet and I have watched about 15 on the WIIM Amp 😃
@@ealanosborne Well it's true I am now watching your review for the 3rd time I have learnt more watching your review than all the others put together, and what I like is it connects to a sub because when listening to bands like Pink Floyd you also need to feel the bass. I just need to it passed by the domestic planning officer. Did connecting the sub help with distortion?
@@kymvalleygardensdesign5350 Yeah, connecting a sub helped alleviate the need for the amp to push as much. But at loud volumes it still wasn’t perfect. But I purposely used 6ohm speakers that aren’t especially sensitive to push the Wiim Amp to its limits. I imagine with your near field desktop situation, your KEF Q150s being 8 ohm nominal with a recommended power rating up to 100 watts, the Wiim Amp will be perfect, especially with a sub. 🤘
Using the WiiM amp in my bedroom television via ARC (Apple TV 4k, UHD player, retro gaming device) and to a turntable via the RCAs. Enjoyed the app and connectivity (lack of jankiness) so much that I replaced 3 Chromecast audios with a WiiM Pro+ and 2 Minis. Definitely suits my needs well! Great review and I like the way you balanced the true pros/cons of it.
Got one in my bedroom 2.1 TV system as well, love it! The only option to have HDMI ARC input that controls the volume through CEC and TV/Streamer remote that's $300 - if one doesn't want a bulky receiver of course. ;) With my Micca RB42s speakers, I found the subwoofer combo sounds best at a 35 hz crossover frequency in my bedroom. Who would've thought the bass is so good from the Miccas! )) One thing to note, the RCA input on all WiiM products converts the analog audio to digital so it can stream it to other WiiM products, but since it has a built in AMP it converts it back to anologue and the sound is not really ideal when instead of just powering up the analogue signal without converting it to digital and then analogue again... But is acceptable)
Sorry if I missed this in the vid - did you go back and listen to Iris after hooking up the sub, and did taking the low frequency load off your bookshelf speakers remove the distortion you were hearing previously?

I'm wondering how the sound quality is Vs buying a the Wiim Pro Plus a separate affordable amp, say the SMSL DA-9, SMSL A300 or the Fosi audio za3. I'm thinking about driving some Q Acoustics 3030i speakers which are 6ohms, and what you said here makes me think this amp might not have the required grunt to drive them. Currently I have the Wiim Pro Plus and a DA-9 for my lounge and I love the sound. Now looking for a set up for my bedroom but reviewers like yourself don't seem to be really praising the sound of the Wiim amp. The distortion you described in your review sounds like a pretty massive drawback. This makes me think maybe another Wiim device (mini or pro) with another separate amp might be the way to go. I would appreciate your thoughts
Correct. I would honestly stick to the Wiim Pro Plus with a separate amp, since the many streaming options, phenomenal DAC and EQ settings are the Wiim’s bread and butter. 👍
I did that review for the eCoustics channel, but they took it down because they wanted to have another employee there have a second listen to the combo. I presume they’ll have that newer review posted at some point soon. In the meantime, I did do a couple unboxing videos for the A25 amp and ST5 streamer (also on eCoustics).
Sir,why does the atmos content on apple music or on apple tv+ play low on sound wise....reason why I am asking you this is beacause yours channel has the best content as far as Atmos sounding in movies or from apple tv 4k is concerned
Hmmm, I haven''t experienced that personally, so I honestly don't know. Is the source coming from your Smart TV apps directly, or through a streaming box like an AppleTV 4K? Obviously there's a difference between a 4K Blu-ray disc and streaming, but compared to Netflix or Hulu, etc, I haven't noticed AppleTV+ or Apple Music being quieter than the other streaming platforms...
Sir,my apple tv 4k is connected directly to my avr via hdmi and I am playing atmos content from apple music and apple tv+.....and under Audio settings,it is Atmos output plus loud reduction off..... Somewhere sir I feel that when I play e.g. same movie like Killers of the Flower Moon with apple tv+ and same from 4k disc....it has difference in terms of volume ...low with apple n ok with disc
@@drsomparkashverma6174 So for example, do you have to raise the volume when watching an AppleTV+ show compared to watching a show on Netflix or Disney+, etc?
No sir,not like that...I mean to say that I have to raise the volume(to atleast 5db) when i watch something on apple music or on APTV+....in comparison to my normal listening volume at around -12 to -15 db when I am watching from a 4k disc
@@drsomparkashverma6174 Yes, compared to a 4K disc, it’s normal to need to raise the volume when streaming. 4K discs have uncompressed (lossless) audio, compared to compressed (lossy) audio from AppleTV+, Netflix, Disney+, etc. 👍
Hey man, love your channel. Completely unrelated to this video but I needed to ask. Have you listened to anything by Jennifer Athena Galatis in atmos on apple music? To me it's the best atmos I've experienced movies, music or otherwise. Blows Billie Eilish and Hans Zimmer out of the water imo (in terms of mixing). Just thought I'd chime in
I had seen the wiim amp on so many channels, but never bothered to watch it since I've got the Yamaha RX-V6A (which i got in 2021 after watching your video on the version sold by Costco, Thank you btw!!!) But since you made a video on the wiim amp, i was like, lets check it anyways 😊. 😃
Nice video Ealan… love your channel. I spend a lot of time in my home theater watching videos like yours and Shane Lees.
Awesome! Thank you for your support! 😊
Question from a novice here. I've been thinking about getting the WiiM Pro Plus, but should I get the WiiM Amp instead? In other words does the WiiM Amp do the streaming and everything the Pro Plus does?
Correct. The Wiim Amp is like a Wiim Pro Plus with an even better DAC AND amp inside.
Thanks for the vid Ealan, wondering if dac is better in wiim amp compared to wiim pro plus?
Ive been using the wiim amp for a while pretty fun!
Yes, Wiim apparently pulled out all the stops with the Amp, putting the best DAC in it compared to all other Wiim products. 🎉
Thanks for that!
Please do a dial in sub for the wiim amp that would b great for noobs 👊✌️
