      I was really happy when it first was mentioned on Drawfee, and when it gained traction, because that had been one of the standouts of the old testament for me for years, and since most people I know are more or less normal and haven't read the bible (I should say bibleS) back to front a number of times out of sheer curiosity, there was no one in my life to share that utter insanity with.

    Jacob's "enter into a new challenge with a comedic level of confidence instead of going in thinking you're going to fail" is, for people like me, actually great advice. I deal with a lot of my insecurities with humor, and I've found that if I'm "in on the joke", being jokingly confident can lead to just being *actually* confident and kind to myself.

    A fun note about the localization: They're only called "One Third of Umbilical Cord" in the American version. In other versions, it's just "Third Umbilical Cord". Some speculate that they're actually intended to be whole umbilical cords, from the fourth generation of Great Ones (the third generation after the first).
    Also, there are four of them in the game, and any three will work, so it can't be 3/3 of the same cord.

    Ok, lore time. In this stream, Julia explores the forsaken Castle Cainhurst. The nobles of Cainhurst stole forbidden blood from the Healing Church and became the Vilebloods (essentially vampires, though this isn’t fully explained). The Vilebloods were enemies of the Church, so a group of hunters aptly named the Executioners attacked Cainhurst and slaughtered everyone they could find, which is why it’s full of ghosts. They could not, however, kill the immortal Queen Annalise, so the Executioner Logarius hid her behind an illusion and parked himself in front of it.

    • @Nonregional
      @Nonregional 4 місяці тому +28

      There’s one other living Executioner we know of, Alfred. If you find Annalise and tell him about her, he will smash her into paste, eager to complete the work Logarius was martyred for, then kill himself.
      According to Annalise, she is the only Vileblood who remains, but the player can become one as well by drinking her tainted blood. Other characters associated with Cainhurst include the Bloody Crow (a hostile NPC who ostensibly betrayed Eileen’s faction, who hunt mad hunters), Lady Maria (a boss found in the Hunter’s Nightmare added in the DLC), and Arianna (a prostitute who will provide the player with vials of her blood if sent to Oedon Chapel).

      Also, you know there's people who watch this stream who say "forehead" as an insult. That needs to end too. People can't change their skin color or who they love, but making fun of bald or big forehead people is allowed??

    • @leopoldbloom4296
      @leopoldbloom4296 4 місяці тому +24

      Basically using anything that is beyond one's power to choose or change as an insult is both extremely lazy and borderline meaningless. Like Julia's example with the round face. Imagine people making fun of you because your fingernails are broader and shorter than average. Wh-- what? How's that even insulting? Not only does it say more about the person "insulting" than the one on the receiving end, it's also a great example of how, when it comes to _words_ a lot of the time you can only be insulted if you "allow" the other person to insult you. Once you experience the meaninglessness of such attempts you can no longer allow that avenue and the insult effectively disappears, making the insultee sound like a rambling person. Hate speech, however, works with different rules and is not as easily dismissed, but being called "bald" should be experienced in a similar way as being called "broad-nailed". Absurd and plain dumb.

    • @alexanderkonczal3908
      @alexanderkonczal3908 4 місяці тому +3

      I'd argue it's more than that. people also make fun of it because 1.) it symbolizes a lack of control over your own body. 2.) it's a sign of age, which is very common category for the division of in and out groups. 3.) there's an evolutionary reason for a species to ostracize baldness - the sun is a deadly laser and your hair is the first line of defense.
      these things do play into virility culture, but I'd argue that masculinity isn't a major part of the equation - baldness is a very MALE thing, culturally. it's usually associated with extra testosterone being shipped elsewhere, meaning a greater proclivity to body/facial hair, sometimes a more robust build. it's associated with being a social group elder or an academic authority. it's also associated with many religious/philosophical movements, and thus with purity, asceticism, self-denial, and enlightenment. these aren't negative traits, unless you're the wrong age or sex for those traits in your culture. if you're young or female, the problem isn't the question of being masculine enough - it's that it's too early/not your place in traditional culture.

    I’m ~young~ and balding. It’s honestly a lot less chill than people make it out to be. The common experience people have is light hearted jokes about balding, but actually being young and balding is a wildly different game. You stand out from all your peers. The more you work around it the more you feel like you’re hiding something, so even if you weren’t embarrassed or bothered you start to feel shame. Because of common sentiment, it very much will come up in dating.
    Hell. Drawfee has made jokes about it.

    The goal posts talk is something I love to hear as a person with chronic fatigue. I got into that mindset around 2020ish with all the depression and shit, but it’s done wonders to help with my acceptance of my disabilities. And I’ve been able to help spread that love with my dad who’s health and disabilities have certainly hit a rough patch the last few years. I’m glad such fantastic advice is being shared and spread like this.
    And as someone who (via religious trauma) believed themselves to be worth absolute dirt and than any form of confidence was being disrespecting to god. And I finally accepted that that isn’t ok. And that jokey over confidence did wonders for my self esteem. I don’t think I’ll ever stop. Even when it isn’t goal oriented, being exaggerating about your confidence builds that confidence

    The whole positive mental health talk while fighting The One Reborn was so cool and really resonated with me. I also got so excited when Julia beat the boss right after. I'm so glad to have role models like you guys, like actual adults doing cool stuff and being silly but also heartfelt when needed. Being an adult like Jacob and Julia (and kinda all of Drawfee) is what I strive for in life now, as a person who never even expected to make it to twenty (I'm 21 now). In short, thanks for all you guys do and keep up the good work!

    I know it was followed up by a joke about headless ghost women to defuse the tension, but Jacob saying "You're allowed to just say you feel a way, with no explanation" (43:19) really hit me. I also try to explain everything and have a hard time articulating my feelings and reasons for them, so that was really nice, wholesome, and important to hear.

    I really wanted to support Julia's budding career as a teacher of life skills by watching the Finance class when it came out!! But I shouldn't engage with money advice for my mental health, so I did not. :/ It's not that I'm not interested! I majored in Economics and I love learning! But I'm disabled, and therefore legally obligated to remain in poverty to continue to "deserve" my health insurance, and it's just a whole mess.
    Love you guys, you're real bright spots in the tedium of waiting months at a time for underpaid people several states away to get around to my pile of paperwork out of, like, literally hundreds of thousands, just to deny me again in a reverse-ageism situation, because obviously, people under 70 can't be disabled! Right? :P

      The way the American government insists that disabled people should absolutely not be able to support themselves at all in order to qualify for financial aid is one of the stupidest, most fucked up policies ever.
      For people who haven't gone through the agony of trying to apply for SS or SSI, you are not allowed to have more than $2,000-$4,000 in your bank accounts (or even in assets, maybe? I forget,) or you are considered ineligible.

    That mall is just what every semi-successful mall feels like now. If it’s not 90% boarded up stores, it’s got the ropes course, go kart, motion simulators, and weird novelty versions of chain restaurants. Destiny USA in syracuse also has a wonderworks which looks like a museum crashed into the roof of the building and everything in it is upside down
