The past decade has seen the accusation of 'toxic masculinity' become so commonplace that even brands aimed at men, like Gillette, are using it to sell their products. And the #MeToo movement cemented fears that bad men are everywhere. So who are 'men'? What do they want? How did we get to this point of fear and mistrust? And where can we go next?
Join social theorist and renowned philosopher Nina Power as she sheds light on some of the most important issues affecting men today. Power will chart a riveting course through the history of masculinity, the crises that affect men today and what we should do about them.

We overthink and over analyze every damn thing nowadays it's ridiculous. We are so sensitive and politically correct and the world is so nerfed that we are making super sensitive weak-minded pathetic people for the future generations
We better do think
Agreed
Let anyone who is in peril and needs to be sheltered under the umbrella of masculinity decry it. Yeah men need compassion and restraint. As much as they need drive and strength! In equal measure. Lets bring a balance, not try and lose masculinity. It would be a grave mistake.
I believe this relates too finding balance between the two hemispheres of the brain, the logical/rational and spiritual/intuitive.
Should we start building an idea of moral masculinity? Let us know your thoughts belowe! If you are interested in viewing the rest of this academy talk visit: iai.tv/iai-academy/courses?UA-cam&
women better than men? Men better than women? what divisive nonsense.
An interesting topic. We have, as humans, been here on Earth for tens or probably for thousands of years, but still, most of us, we don't know who we are?.. Thanks iai
No.
Ahhh, sometimes the simplest answers are the most elusive.

Is caffeine actually toxic?
Every thing is toxic if you have enough.
Must be terrible to hold a serious talk in front of smooth jazz being played in the background
I believe mind games make people toxic, it does not have to do with men or women.. it’s the overall combination of humanity being delusional by creating this concept of greatness after performing sadistic acts upon unsuspecting innocent victims.
before even talking the subject itself and the ideas talked about, i gotta say that this was not a good presentation.
i mean the band playing nearby dint do you any favors, but even then the language was written like a between a paper and an article.
and just reading is not how you do a presentation. in a presentation you gotta take pauses, bring up analogies and examples and slowly build base of understanding with the audience to lead to the conclusions... not just read it.
now the usual disclaimer that i don't mean anything personal or against/in favor the ideas presented and what i said was purely for constructive purposes
toxic always needs 2 individuals or things, the one who intreprets or reacts to it as toxic, and the other one doing whatever is getting called toxic, for example alcohol is not that toxic to us, but to many animals it is
Is she a professor or /the professor/?
Toxic masculinity refers to masculine elements that are taken too far and become destructive. Like the inability to process emotions or pressure to be hyper sexual. Toxic masculine elements existed before capitalism so I am not sure why she is tying it so strongly to capitalism.
I think she means that capitalism leads to us being oversensitive with these topics because everyone needs to define themselves with meaningless Symbols.
@@chacubra Okay I will give it another listen.
@@chacubra How is that specific to capitalism, though?
Pls enlighten me, what the heck was the thing before capitalism existed in your mind? Do you think they were communists in the middle age ?

Much of this is related to relationship aggression, which primarily a tactic used by the female gender.
You fail to address the lies and misconceptions about how the patriarchy and matriarchy used to work. You cling to the dogma of oppression and victimhood. You fail to address the concerns of the MRAs. You fail to address the anti-male education system. If you do not do these things then all you provide is platitudes.
Very well said.
Don't be silly.
begs the question. Is femininity toxic?
Femininity is not toxic, it is the next mass extinction. It is the by far the worst disaster earth has experienced and this time it may not survive.
