Thanks for your impeccable knowledge. I was a fire Fighter for 32 years and to find a person so steeped in the understanding of the areas topography is rear. It is much appreciated to watch your videos. Thank you for all the time you put in to educating us on the burn scar areas. I will pass on to others of your channel.
I sure appreciate you sharing your knowledge on fires and flooding on the local areas. I have lived in Chico for 55 years and have seen many of the areas you discuss. Please keep up the great work and a wonderful holiday season to all!
Thank you so much for this video. I'm new to Butte County (2017) and your videos on everything have really helped me learn more about this area. I'm in Thermalito and had a friend in Arkansas ask me just yesterday about all the waterways here. The Forebay/Afterbay etc. This video while it doesn't address those areas it did help define my answer to him just based on my extremely limited knowledge. I sent it to him to him to solidify my understanding of the area, the small creeks both seasonal and yearly. Showing those topography maps was great. I really appreciate your knowledge and honest share of your thinking based on your knowledge and experience. Invaluable. Too bad money and politics win out in many instances putting people and property in harms way. I watch your video yesterday with your kids and got a kick out of pointing out vegetation that really should be removed. Great Dad too, so important to show our kids the smart and wrong ways of things. What an awesome educational ride for them. Most likely they don't appreciate it, yet. Blessings 🙏🌷
20:28 I attended a conference for folks with interest in rural dirt/gravel road maintenance and construction in Lake County. One of the biggest take-a -ways there was: Add more pour spots to the outside of the road wherever possible to prevent high volume run offs that contribute to erosion and silt deposition downstream.
great! thx for the update....we are on Brookwood Way - Lindo Channel is our backyard... was interesting to watch the water recede so quickly yesterday morn...! (we bought flood ins this year for the first time)
Very cool. And yes, after the fires comes the flood. Erosion, over-topping, and debris flows oh my! Thank you for your reporting. Butte county has a special significance to me - my papa built houses in Concow, berry creek, and paradise.
Thank you, Lookout! I learned a lot from your thoughtful analysis of the topo data, combined with the on-the-ground footage. Awesome, educational content!
I grew up in N. Chico. As kids we spent all our time at 5 Mile, Lindo Channel, and Mud Creek. Even the mini Grand Canyon, which was really special for a child. Yes, back then, children were let run, we were freerange! Chico has a history of destructive floods in the downtown, so we were told all about the flood controls. Thanks for the tour, brought back memories.
Interesting follow up. If you didn't see issues in town with this storm I think you are going to be OK. Worrying after the fire. Remember you talking then about 5 mile and being apprehensive about the overgrowth. Lotsa politicing and red tape. Your interviewee had a long local perspective. Thanks for the update. Hi E and kids. Not much perk out by rock/ mud creek drainage for well replen? Pretty rocky huh.👋👱♀️😻
I went to college in Chico, graduated in 1969, have been back a number of times but not in the past 20 years, This was very informative for me. Thanks for doing this,
This is a really great "teach in" - I deal with these issues all the time and totally agree with all your observations. The general homeowner never realizes the geological hazard they've been handed by developers & zoning until it's too late - especially as most of California gets bailed on by insurance companies...
@fubar9214 No.. but I have family in Yuba City and Marysville! I'm in L A... I'm just waiting for the Logarithms to Overload the dam and take out the towns below like in N Carolina!
I've been living in the woods for many years. What you said about road-building is really true. The dozer guys are so often building temporary roads (for construction or logging) and pay not enough attention to the things you called out: dispersing runoff, percolating water, ditching to match slope/speed and volume of 6"/day. It's hard to imagine today's conditions when it's dry and 108⁰
Great report on the current conditions. Appreciate that you’ve addressed runoff relative to the Park Fire. I’m curious how the highway 32 corridor Forest Ranch to Butte Meadows is withstanding the rain/snow. I worked the Park Fire in that area then continued on up into Lassen County, up by the 32/36 junction (K-Line and L-Line). Some of that was Dixie Fire scar but there was a lot of new scar in that area up into Mill Creek. Have you been able to look around that area? If you have the opportunity to view that and the Tehama county scars along Hwy 36, that’d be some great content. Thank you for your work!
Great report! Super cool lydar? shows the landform under all that development and vegetation. I hope all that snow we get doesn't get any rain on it. We need a nice cold storm if we get one. Lots of snow up there right?😙
I find it odd that CA communities and the state map floodways with FEMA and have it officially designated on maps and then have states like North Carolina and you wonder if FEMA ever visited the state. These maps aren't always togally reliablr, but much bettef with nothing. Sad that the Butte County leadership seemed unwilling to do better long range planning in the past...now homeowners must figure for themselves.

I've learned so much about our area watching your videos, thank you
What a great field review of the hydrology and post-fire runoff from this atmospheric river event! Great thanks.

That drainage layer is really neat.

Welcome to the Ville
Thank you for the info. Had not known there was a Lindo diversion dam! It all was fascinating.

Thank you Zeke!❤
Thanks Zeke. This is terrific info to know. I will share!

Fascinating. Really enjoyed how you showed the topography maps then the actual photos from that area. Well done.subscribed 👍
Thanks for the detailed review!
thank you from Mendocino Co.
Sure would be nice if they would FINALLY get the Sites Reservoir project up so we can capture some of this water.
Thank you, Lookout! I learned a lot from your thoughtful analysis of the topo data, combined with the on-the-ground footage. Awesome, educational content!
Thank you. We live off Kiefer, and this helped explain it to my kids.
Wow, thank you for posting this!
Thank you for these videos, it makes things so much clearer.
Amazing to see new sprouts even in that area of hot burn. Does it seem like oak mostly? Tanoak?
Mainly live oak in the canyons around Cohasset. Tanoak kicks in a little higher.
Thanks for the ride to school', it was very informative😊
Thx Zeke...Great boots on the ground coverage of water flows during extreme rain and especially the effect in burn areas....Great job.

Any chance there is another run in gold panning when things settle down? Thanks for the video

Finally, someone who is well versed.
About everything connected to what is currently transpiring.
Great job thank you!
Loved the lydar photography
I don't think you can put detention (retention) ponds on alluvial soil. It would have to be lined. Excellent presentation!
Thanks!
Thanks for the tour. I'll have out the mini Grand Canyon next time I'm in town.
Incredible work putting this together. Thank you!
Thanks for the video,
Great comprehensive report!

Very interesting.
Very interesting thank w
Much needed rain.
The silt deposits in our waterways needs to fertilize all the farms
Excellent. Thank you thankyou!
Lake Oroville's water level only went up about 10'!
@fake734 have you check the dam yet. I haven't been able to head that direction just yet.

It’s been awhile
In layman's terms, devolopment was permited/occurred in areas it should have never been done in.

👍 thank you
Butte county specifically Paradise...
has more problems. Problems that you wont ever read or hear about.
It will be interesting to see how 32 holds up with all the tree removal they've been doing! I am expecting a muddy mess and maybe a slide or two?
Should I go up to Paradise next week? Is it safe, wet, slippery? are there lots of MAGAs up there?
