It marks the first pillar after every station. If the car passes it, the signalling system considers the preceding station to be empty and allows the following car to enter the station. So this is the limit of how far you can go before reversing back into the station is unsafe.

The Wuppertaler Schwebebahn is great. I like the Wuppertaler Schwebebahn. But I like the old GTW72 better than the new GTW 15.

Huey, what is in the odd bit in the middle of the tram?
What do the electronic numbers mean on the front? All I can assume is that it is the number of out and about in service at any one time.
So-called "Kursnummer", roughly the number of the train on that line.
What is the big letter "Z" on some of the structures, please?
