I considered this and the CX30. In the end the CX30 2.5 S Carbon Edition won. Stronger engine with nearly similar economy, full leather seats with more luxury interior, rear vents, spare wheel standard, moon roof standard, heated seats as standard, rain sensing wipers as standard. The downside is the practicality and not having parking sensors and 360° round view, and there is no automatic rear brake assist or pro pilot assist hands on. It would cost $1950 extra to add heated seats and moon roof to the kicks which makes it more expensive when comparing the basic MSRP of the two. I would have rather got the Kicks but because it is brand new I was not going to get any discounts on it. In the end the Mazda won hands down after a $5000 dealer and incentives discount of MSRP. I think it is disingenuous to compare the Kicks to the top turbo trim of the CX30.
I was thinking that this makes about the same power as the CR-V (both with CVTs), and has the same amount of space, but I wonder if the Kicks is a little quieter? Hondas have loud interiors.
I was debating for long time between Kona, Corolla Cross, Crosstreck and HRV, Kona did not like plastic feeling, Corolla Cross was not available in large quantities and price was the factor, Subaru did not have trim for price range I was looking for, end up with HRV Sport that I really liked, insurance went down $300 for six months compared to my previous 2016 Hyundai Sonata Sport.
It looks like it’s only standard in the AWD model but you can get it from a dealer in the FWD model. I’m asking for clarity on that, but it will be available via a dealer and will fit in any Kicks.
The rear hatch of the Kicks reminds me of the Kia Soul with that floating color panel on the rear hatch. I'm not sure that's a compliment. Just another lease Nissan vehicle that will see more miles as a rental than anything a person would own, considering Nissan transmission reliability.
Wanted to trade in my kicks 2022… Paid 36000$ with the loan and extras the dealer tacked on saying it “came” with the accessories… well, they offer 14000$ for my 2 year old car! Next car definitely won’t be nissan.
@@JoshRyO97 yeah, I got suckered in during covid and that no other dealership had cars available. Corolla cross was my first pick, there were none to be had.
Seems like its impossible to find a good small car these days. All hatchback and sedan options are thrown out for me because they are far too low beyond reason and just impractical. So many small CUVs are so inefficient in the deisgn. Maximize the car by making it more boxy. Stop with the curved tailgate. Heck a boxy car like the Bronco Sport looks significantly better. Then you have horrid powertrains. I owned a Honda Fit once and dont recommend ever getting a car under 180 hp again. Its not pleasant. Its insulting automakers still make such pathetic powertrains. I dont want any turbos or a CVT again either. Hope it jas good build quality and durability. My Honda Fit was so badly made and unreliable. Looking at that cheap carpet you mentioned kinda shows how low quality they whole car is. Cheap materials these days means no durable and poorly built. Then how does all this age? What to do when those fancy LEDs go out, all the safety tech, sensors, and cameras? It will be pricey to fix when its supposed to be a cheap affordable car. Cars are increasingly only for rich folks. Not a single reliable, cheap to run/maintain, durable car on offer in the United States it looks like. Im so incredibly bitter. Im only 23. There will be nothing for poorer folks to own in 20 years. Idk what Ill do when my 4Runner finally dies. There is seriously no options. I want something smaller but just as boxy and versatile. But looks like Im asking for too much.
I have had under 100 horsepower cars and I never had any problems getting up to speed or getting through traffic. Last year I drove my wife’s old Honda fit from Milton Ontario to Halifax Nova Scotia after we moved and I had no issues across the 401 which is the busiest highway in north America, 18 lanes at its widest, where peoples average speed is 130/140 kph in any lane as they cut everyone off without indicating, and through Montreal that is known for some of the worst drivers in Canada. 32 hours on 5 hours of sleep with a car full of stuff and my cat and his litter box. The drivers seat was so comfortable I had no issues that entire time. Currently have a 2019 Crosstrek 2.0. We have no issues on the highway getting up to speed. Lose the ego buddy, you’re better off without it.
I’d still go with the Trax, mainly based on appearance and value. One of the main reasons people buy a car (along with reliability and price) is how it looks and the Trax is just a better looking car, and Nissans aren’t know for being the most reliable of Asian vehicles.
That's basically where I am, lol. The Kicks seems to have more cargo practicality, but the quiet ride of the Envista is really appealing, and you get a LOT for your money. It's down on HP from the Kicks, but makes a lot more torque. I'd probably have to drive them back-to-back to decide.
Alex and Travis, does this have that trick two-speed transmission that Nissan attaches to some of their CVTs for increased final drive? Like they had in the late, great Versa Note? Anyway, I was worried about this change to a larger and heavier format for the Kicks because I loved how small and light the old one…but Alex’s review has won me over once again! And count me in the crowd of sickos who likes CVTs, particularly the high-torque CVT found in certain Subarus.
The vehicle is very good in its segment, the only thing I can criticize is why the brand uses this color for the roof of all its vehicles? Why don't they use dark colors, it gets dirty less, they have been that light gray color for decades, deviersb ussr black. More elegant, better vision from the inside and less reflections
If one is in the market for low priced AWD, for a few hundred more one can get a Subaru Impreza. Arguably the Impreza has a better AWD, CVT, and definitely better resale value. Kicks has a more youthful look but otherwise I'm not sure it offers anything over the Impreza.
That was going to be my next car, i wanted so bad! But the central console is too high! That doesn't allow me to extend my knees over the width of the seat because it bumps against it! I'm 6'3"; a lower central console would make the car more comfortable for tall people. That was the deal breaker at the test drive. After visiting Nissan, I went to VW to check the Taos, which is a similar size but with a lower central console, and the driving position was way better.
I work at a Nissan dealership in Canada and the base model S supports android auto and apple car play? Are you 100% positive that the US version doesn't support it??? It's even wireless for both???
They've had new CVT's in some of their vehicles since 2020 and there's been no major issues so far. Most companies are moving to CVT's anyway, not just Nissan.
@@HALWG51 Wow! Did I hurt your feelings sweetie? My comment was based on the fact that a Nissan CVTs have not been reliable. i never use my lumbar support and im the only one that drives my car so why gripe about power seats. we want affordable cars but we want all the bells and whistles! seriously!
Nissan, just develop a torque converted 8 speed already. This cvt is killing your sales. It's not the way to go. It's killing reliability. It's killing enthusiasm. This could have been a lot more peppy. Increase your cost by 1000 to 2000 with a better transmission and you'll still be profitable i imagine.
The industry is moving toward CVTs, not away from them. Toyota, Honda, Hyundai, Kia and GM have all introduced new CVTs replacing traditional automatics over the past decade and the trend is only ramping up.

Tbh y’all a used or new 2023 Rogue is a much better deal. It’s faster, bigger, and you get most of the Kicks SR features in a Rogue SV or maybeeee a S base model.
I don’t understand the obsession of car brands with panoramic roofs, the heat is increasing all over the world and you get toasted with those things. The same applies to the leather seats.
if nissans cvt is so bad like u guys keep gripping about then why are they still making these newer cars with it?????? somebody explain? dont play ka ma la!
A Nissan (any Nissan) with a “new” CVT : you’re just asking for trouble. Unfortunately there’s no Nissan (maybe Pathfinder and Frontier) that offers anything resembling longevity. Disposable
24:10 This is not correct, the '25 FWD Kicks SV is not available with alloy wheels, those are 17" steel wheels with "flex covers" on them. Only the AWD SV gets the 17" alloy wheels. Its another reason to go AWD, at least with the SV as you're getting AWD traction, a better rear suspension, and alloy instead of steel wheels.
I love this, but Alex, the Corolla Cross Hybrid is not $8,000 more than a $31K Kicks SV AWD. Comparing apples to apples, the top trim XSE Hybrid AWD with convenience pkg and accessories like floormats prices at $35,709 including destination. That's $4,500, nowhere near 8k.
@@AAutoBuyersGuide At best that's a stretch to make a point; it's just hitting showrooms so its hard to tell about the available discounts, and if we're comparing base to base it should be gas vs. gas, where the Toyota rings in at just over $25K. Again, nowhere near $7K. I'd definitely still buy a gas Kicks over the Corolla Cross gasser, just noting your comparisons are typically a little more apples-to-apples.
The point here is that the kicks is made for a price sensitive shopper while a Corolla Cross hybrid is not. The 2024 CCH is $28,220 vs the Kicks at $21,830. In our area the 2025 Kicks already has $750 off, but more critically we don’t have final 2025 pricing on the Toyota hitch which is expected to start around $29,000.
@@AAutoBuyersGuide Fair, but if that's the point here the Kicks buyer is probably not cross-shopping a CCH to begin with, and is likely limiting to base powertrains.
That was more or less our point, but this was to address the questions about “why doesn’t/didn’t Nissan put a hybrid in the Kicks” which is a frequent question. The answer is because it would have been more expensive and case in point: Corolla Cross Hybrid.

It sounds like you got a good, maybe great, deal on your CX-30. Well done! Enjoy the many happy miles.
A lot better than the HR-V
Hrv is a bit nicer and more refined. And it has a more expensive feeling cabin like the civic
@@naveenthemachine no it’s not. HR-V is awful. Kona is even better
Oddly the Honda HRV is their most reliable vehicle.
I LOVE AMBER TURN SIGNALS!!!
Can you still get a spare tire in the AWD version? Or does that only fit in the FWD version?
It looks like it’s only standard in the AWD model but you can get it from a dealer in the FWD model. I’m asking for clarity on that, but it will be available via a dealer and will fit in any Kicks.
dang Alex nissan Nick-ed us, and i'm awd-ed , for SR it is nice
The rear hatch of the Kicks reminds me of the Kia Soul with that floating color panel on the rear hatch. I'm not sure that's a compliment. Just another lease Nissan vehicle that will see more miles as a rental than anything a person would own, considering Nissan transmission reliability.
Wanted to trade in my kicks 2022… Paid 36000$ with the loan and extras the dealer tacked on saying it “came” with the accessories… well, they offer 14000$ for my 2 year old car!
Next car definitely won’t be nissan.
Thats crazy. Last year I paid 23,000 for a 2022 two tone kicks it only had 4k miles on it.
@@JoshRyO97 yeah, I got suckered in during covid and that no other dealership had cars available. Corolla cross was my first pick, there were none to be had.
Is it least SR with Bose speakers in headrest part of the seat?
@@fibonaccisequence2891 i wish. Bottom s model. :(
I'm surprised that you didn't mention that the Soul has a longer warranty and in the long term probably a better value
This is bigger and better looking. Soul has no AWD option.
Very Renault/Citroen look about it. Looks good
Shame they didn’t keep the physical buttons for the climate like their other current gen products. Looks like it’ll be a winner though.
Too low beyond reason? And what's that reason? What does your car need to be up high for, besides your ego?
Owner's of the Chevy Trax have been reporting numerous problems.
I'd like to see a comparison between the Kicks and the HRV.
Interesting car
The camera resolution is awful, it continues to be Nissan's weakness
I can't decide if i like this or the Buick Envista more.
I really like the look of the Kicks but I think the Buick has a traditional automatic not a CVT like the Kicks does
That's basically where I am, lol.
No, Nissan seems to have not developed that variant of the CVT further
The vehicle is very good in its segment, the only thing I can criticize is why the brand uses this color for the roof of all its vehicles? Why don't they use dark colors, it gets dirty less, they have been that light gray color for decades, deviersb ussr black. More elegant, better vision from the inside and less reflections
I don't like the boxy look. The side profile still looks good but I don't like the front or back end. I don't like those rims either 😢
The rims truly drag it down.
The rims look like they belong on a matchbox car. 😂
If it sells well they will do what all dealers do….they will mark the price up and then it wont be the deal it is now….
If one is in the market for low priced AWD, for a few hundred more one can get a Subaru Impreza. Arguably the Impreza has a better AWD, CVT, and definitely better resale value. Kicks has a more youthful look but otherwise I'm not sure it offers anything over the Impreza.
The SV trim is probably the best value at $25k.
I see all the experts had to comment negatively.
I want my Kiks lifted pro4X to match my pickup 😊
That was going to be my next car, i wanted so bad! But the central console is too high! That doesn't allow me to extend my knees over the width of the seat because it bumps against it! I'm 6'3"; a lower central console would make the car more comfortable for tall people. That was the deal breaker at the test drive. After visiting Nissan, I went to VW to check the Taos, which is a similar size but with a lower central console, and the driving position was way better.
Seems pretty competitive for the segment.
I have a hard time complimenting any in this segment
I work at a Nissan dealership in Canada and the base model S supports android auto and apple car play? Are you 100% positive that the US version doesn't support it??? It's even wireless for both???
Yes it is wireless for both
Sorry, not for me. Here we go again, it has a CVT! Hasn’t Nissan learned their lesson?
The next Murano is expected to ditch the CVT for the Pathfinder’s 9-speed, amazingly.
So maybe they slowly are learning their lesson.
They've had new CVT's in some of their vehicles since 2020 and there's been no major issues so far. Most companies are moving to CVT's anyway, not just Nissan.
@@GBcommander Their CVTS are made with a stronger chain instead of the belt, that was the main reason why they failed so early and known for it
Then stay off of ft these reviews.
@@HALWG51 Wow! Did I hurt your feelings sweetie? My comment was based on the fact that a Nissan CVTs have not been reliable. Just like they did with the Pathfinder, I was hoping they would continue to use conventional engine and improve their lackluster reliability. Let me give you a life lesson, don’t take small things like a comment personal. That is why they have a comment section, so people can give their opinion. It’s called 1st Amendment. Cheers…
I think Nissan is targeting more Rogue sport replacement than Kicks. It would be nice if video compared with existing Rogue sport also.
i never use my lumbar support and im the only one that drives my car so why gripe about power seats. we want affordable cars but we want all the bells and whistles! seriously!
decent exterior design but nissans dna of including a pound of piano black plastic in critical high touch areas delivered again.
Nice value prop, but honestly, I'd pay more for a car that doesn't have a hideous back end.
I really liked those led lights as everone says they are great, , i have a 2020 nissan sentra i went with the LEDs for headlights in the SR. Those automotive reviewers say their great, well i had a pice of 1' of 2" x 4" fly up and hit my headlight now $1267.00 I cant afford that at all. Guess i will be installing a flash light on the light as a fix. And call it done..😢😮😢
The rear remembers me the Prius
Tbh y’all a used or new 2023 Rogue is a much better deal. It’s faster, bigger, and you get most of the Kicks SR features in a Rogue SV or maybeeee a S base model.
I don’t understand the obsession of car brands with panoramic roofs, the heat is increasing all over the world and you get toasted with those things. The same applies to the leather seats.
if nissans cvt is so bad like u guys keep gripping about then why are they still making these newer cars with it?????? somebody explain? dont play ka ma la!
All the other companies have cvt to
Great package minus that screaming engine 😂
I like the lower price and value with this Kicks. I wonder how it compares to the Jeep Compass?
A CVT that “shifts”? What is the point?
A Nissan (any Nissan) with a “new” CVT : you’re just asking for trouble. Unfortunately there’s no Nissan (maybe Pathfinder and Frontier) that offers anything resembling longevity. Disposable
Nissan NICKS? at 0:20 on the opening banner.
lol
Ugh. We edited this late at night with too little sleep.
Named after Stevie Nicks.
@@michaels3003the Stevie Nicks Kicks Butt version with Sky Blue exterior. 😂😂😂
Looks like better than HRV😅
24:10 This is not correct, the '25 FWD Kicks SV is not available with alloy wheels, those are 17" steel wheels with "flex covers" on them. Only the AWD SV gets the 17" alloy wheels. Its another reason to go AWD, at least with the SV as you're getting AWD traction, a better rear suspension, and alloy instead of steel wheels.
How long until they put a third row in this thing. But can make a simple fun to drive car or SUV anymore.
Base to base, the Corolla cross hybrid is $7,000 more than a Kicks S, and when you factor in the average discount the Kicks should be 8k less.
