I used to play video games with my dad then my parents divorced and my dad moved to Florida. We were planning to celebrate his 50th birthday the next year and we were going to meet again and do fun things together like go to the park we used to walk to when he didn’t have a car or we would walk to the the store to get a few lemons and we would make lemonade or when we would play the old mw2 together and he would go easy and let me do good and say that I’m really good at video games. Then he came to visit and we went swimming and he took us to the park and that was the time he said he would come back for his 50th birthday. Then almost 3 years later he had a heart attack or a stroke while cooking and he couldn’t get any oxygen in time and he went brain dead.

My dad passed down his love for video games to me. He’s getting old and his coordination isn’t the best anymore, but he was a demon at all the older Fromsoft games.
I remember being so excited when Elden Ring came out, hoping we could play it together. I can’t forget the slight disappointment in his voice when he told me he’s too old for video games now.
I ended up platting ER, but I really took all those times he taught me how to play Darksouls or Bloodborne for granted. For some reason it hurts a lot more than I thought it would.

I remember playing madden 25 on my Xbox 360 with my dad almost everyday after he came home from work and it was amazing. Fast forward years later and we played again because we haven’t played in forever. After I beat him he said “I’m to old for this” and that hit me. You don’t have your parent forever so keep in mind to always find a way to hang out or play any game with your parent. You won’t have them forever.

Its not a competitive memory but way back then, me and my dad played world of warcraft and hed level me by running me through dungeons and areas where i was way too low level. Fast-forward years, and i mean YEARS, im 21 and not in elementary school anymore and he wanted help soloing a raid for a quest (he likes catching up on content even if its a bit old or he struggles) and, of course i helped him. I kept him alive for as much of the raid as i could, and i realized i was carrying the same way he used to level me up. I had better gear, higher ilvl, i was way more skilled and i wouldn't have gotten there if he didnt do the same for me.
