    Timing curve and total is paramount NA or spray. Get all the mechanical in early, by 2000 Rpms.
    Remember every tenth off the 60’ reduces the 1/4 by +- 1.8 times.
    12.47 on a 1.72 60’ is a 12.25 on a 1.60 60’.
    I’m with you, I still think the truck could run mid 12’s or better NA.
    * Purge the nitrous so it hits immediately will help a ton.

    There is something way wrong somewhere!! I don't know what you've got going for compression or cam (cam sounds really laidback), or gears, but if everything is hitting right, you should easily see mid to high 11's with that thing "pre" nitrous!! I've run a NA 460 BBC with 12:1 compression, .590 lift, 264 @050, 108 solid lifter cam, factory 781 heads with 2.19/1.88 valves, bowls hogged out, unshrouded valves, and slight porting, 1050 dominator on a Victor Jr. intake, and easily make 580+hp with that thing!! Run a 4500 stall converter, 28" tall slicks with a 4:56 rear gears. In everything around 3200lbs when suspension tuned, should see mid 10's no problem!
    Have fun!! Big Blocks ALL day!!!

    The tunnel ram will make a better torque curve and more useable power to get that truck moving. Long runners are your friend , the single plane will hurt it. Personally the engine don't sound happy. Something is off in the tune . I think a good once over and some carb tuning it will be on it's way to great passes

    Hey man put more breathers in the valve covers. Your crankcase is building pressure and isn’t venting that’s why it is blowing the dipstick tube.
    I have 4 breathers (Moroso style) and took the foam out so they don’t clog. No more issues.
    Also that motor is a pooch. And I don’t mean to be mean. But a 454 tunnel ram setup should have that truck in the 11s all day, on pump gas, N/A.
    Don’t turbo LS it! The big block is way cooler.
    I work with a well known engine builder and if you are interested in anything about getting it quicker I would love to assist and maybe get him involved! The motor could get some help get you closer to your goal. I Love the jack black content and would love to see it really kick ass!

Without nitrous on ethier Engine, The Big Block makes my 11second small block look like two plug leads are off until it gets above 6000rpm. Chin up mate. Mine was also slower than my small block to begin with. Iron out the bugs, workout the problems, match the combination, get the tune up right and I'll go fast.

    Not really sure what heads you got but ported vortec heads helps pretty good and can be had for pretty cheap, you reach the flow limits pretty quickly with factory heads, if you want to boogie with a biggie you just have to bite the bullet and get some aftermarket heads they're not like ls's with good heads from the factory and I'd get rid of the dual carbs and just get a single plane intake dual carb single planes are for extreme high end rpms like 8K plus rpms at the minimum and basically needs a cam that just holds the valves open permanently lol, build the motor for the power band and such you want naturally aspirated first then add boost or nitrous

    Like everybody else said ditch the edelbrock carbs and get holleys . you need way more fuel than what you have go up to a -10 fuel line find a used berrygrant 220 gph pump and a nice return style regulator I was running a Holley blue pump on my big block Ford with a single 850 and my fuel pressure was dropping below 3 psi with one carb I imagine your starving for fuel and you might have something In the nitrous lines restricting the flow to 1 side or staggered jets sizes or something this set up has a lot of potential figure out the converter issues and maybe try a different ring and pinion gear set in it and you’ll have a fun truck it just takes time you guys have all winter to figure it out for the spring

    Time to start doing some weight reduction? Check out uncle tonys garage he actually drilled with a step bit holes all over. Pulled the door panels left the window crank only. Bumpers and seats weight alot. Gearing? Jet sizes for fuel and nos? There's alot can be done for next to nothing. Its heavy, if knocked off 300 pounds or more that thing would be consistent low to mid 11's. Its coming together i understand the frustration but its not far off from reaching 11's which is awesome for a truck. Maybe some drag wheels to lighten the truck. Just my thoughts trying to offer any tips i can think od

  • @chrislangdell117
    @chrislangdell117 2 роки тому

    You need to have those carbs set up for Nitrous before you blow up that new motor. Get back to your engine dyno guy and have him help you tune that motor for pump gas and then for nitrous. Your going to need different jets while running nitrous. 26 degrees of timing should be more ideal for that set up. A separate wet fuel system should be set up for your nitrous. With separate tank and better fuel. There is alot left in that motor for sure. Need to get that tune right. The converter sounds like it's having some issues. 4200 rpm launch isn't really working. Try a 3800 stall converter. Hard to say. I have never tried to race a 4,000 pound vehicle. You also need more rear weight transfer. That's why 4 links are so awesome tuning the suspension on a 4 link for weight transfer and removing twist from a launch is so damn easy.

    You guys will get there man. It takes time and patience. Don’t get discouraged . Yea you can go faster with a turbo LS out the gate, but jack black was made for this big block man. Take what you got and make it work. Believe me I know, I’m tempted by a turbo ls swap all the time but once you get them dialed in, you won’t regret anything. I think the issue is in the final gear and the converter. My old square body weighs about as much as this truck. While it’s not an OBS like jack black, it takes a lot of converter to move these down the road. You guys will get there it just takes time and patience.

    Don't put a single plane on it, that engine doesn't make enough rpm to take advantage of it. You'll lose a whole bunch of torque everywhere to gain nothing. Stick with the tunnel ram.

    • @causeimbatmaaan
      @causeimbatmaaan 2 роки тому +1

      Tunnel ram is worse on a motor like that. Need a dual plane.

  • @patrickritenour6935
    @patrickritenour6935 3 роки тому +1

    So I did some thinking about your situation, and I had another thought. Exactly what torque converter are you running? Big blocks need an anti-ballon plate in the converter, and the converter absolutely 💯% needs to be nitrous ready or power adder ready if you are gonna spray it. You can somewhat get by with a cheap converter on a small block alot better than you can a big block bc of the added torque. If you are hitting nitrous on a cheap converter not made for nitrous(or just a cheap converter in general), you are doing nothing but slipping the converter and losing mph. This will be evident by increased tranny Temps. If you start a 1/4 mile run on a cold tranny, and it's anywhere close to 200 degrees by the end of the run, then the converter is definitely slipping and causing excessive heat which will kill the tranny in short order. Not sure on what stall speed you are using, but I'd say jack black would be happy with something in 4500-5500 range.

    • @jimandskittum

      It's not making enough power to balloon a vega converter.

    • @patrickritenour6935
      @patrickritenour6935 3 роки тому

      @@jimandskittum I don't believe it is either, but I still think the converter is a big issue. I know that's a heavy truck, but I feel like it should leave the line faster, and be able to put down a much better 60' time than what it currently is. I've personally gone from 1.8 to 1.5 in the 60' on just a converter change. I went from a jegs brand xhd 3500 stall, to a Hughes 5500 stall and it was a night and day difference. Keep in mind this was on a motor that was a Hydraulic roller cam, with a 7000 rpm redline so it still had plenty of potential to be even better. Also, I've been told that whether you use a power adder or not, an anti-ballon converter is a must have if you use a trans brake

    • @jimandskittum
      @jimandskittum 3 роки тому

      @@patrickritenour6935 I had an S10 that had terrible 60' times and ran way more mph with a 350 on pump gas, no nitrous. That motor is flat. You can tell by the way it sounds.

    • @patrickritenour6935
      @patrickritenour6935 3 роки тому +1

      @@jimandskittum if by "flat", you mean more stock than performance oriented, then I would agree. Even the cam thats in it doesn't sound all that radical, which is wierd bc usually that's the first thing someone does is put a giant cam in a stock motor to try to 'make more power'. Either way, it definitely needs a better head put on it. The heads on it are decent as far as stock heads go, but leave alot to be desired when it comes to real performance. As far as your s10 goes, keep in mind that an s10 is 1000 lbs lighter than this truck is so that may have alot to do with it

    But go to whoever you prefer match the cam to your cubic inch along with what head you have go for a straight motor cam make the nitrous secondary it still will improve and as far as the tunnel ram I would not get rid of it yes it’s easier to tune one carburetor but that tunnel ram makes a lot more power

    If that is truly a 10:1 454 with a 240ish @.050 cam it should run those times on motor all day long. The large oval port heads are not a restriction. They flow plenty for the engine. The 468 that input in my 78 camaro came out of a friend's 78 Trans Am. 3600# it was a 10:1 468 with the shitty small oval port heads (peanut port heads) with a comp 280H hydrolic cam, 2200 stall, holley contender intake (duel plain like an Edelbroc performer intake), holley 850, th400 and 3:42 gears. It ran consistent 12.0 in the ¼ and 7.6 in the ⅛ on pump gas being driven to and from the track (an hour each way). The large oval ports are much better so that should help. I think you are on the right path with the converter though. With a 3000 to 3500 stall is should 60' down in the 1.7 range and run well into the 11's on motor.

      @@dieseldong4781 so the wheelie bar does actually serve a purpose. Weight transfer is still a thing they have to worry about, only when the weight transfers back with a FWD car, it unloads the front tires. The FWD guys set the wheelie bars to load the front suspension, so the car more less rides on the wheelie bars, to help keep traction on the front tires.

      it's more chassis than a ' Wheelie bar " because they strip them down to a shell of a car it
      keeps the car from buckling in the middle.. yes this was meant to poke fun at FWD cars
