Cool video, really well made, I really liked it!
But there are some mistakes there. For example, usually what was called "gold coin" over the ages was just a basic coin made of whatever cheap metal and just coated in gold.
Assuming that every coin in skyrim is PURE gold would mean that gold mines there are basically bottomless. Or that gold isnt worth too much, compared to stuff like bronze which would make much more sense to make "gold coins" of
At the beggining I assumed you'd calculate worth of a beer by, for example, comparing it to prices of some other stuff. Basically, check price of something thats value we might know in dollars (first idea i get is how much does it cost to rent a room for a night i skyrim vs in some random motel), convert value in dollars to value in gold coins and take it as some "ground truth" and base for further calculations
It is just an idea, but i think it would pretty much make sense!
Video is really well made and i really, really like it. And would love to see part 2 with calculations based on the idea above!

Thanks for watching! I definitely considered your first point, but because this had the most concrete numbers (and seemed the most fun), I decided to go with this instead!
As for the second point, maybe if enough people find this video interesting, I'll consider making a part 2🤔

considere comparing septims to a gold bar, which is worth 100 Septims in game. Assuming it's like early US gold Dollars or ancient Roman currency, that means we can safely say that a septim is exactly 1/100 of an Imperial Pound, whatever that means. No point in comparing it to real world gold prices, buying power is all that matters. though it seems gold in Tamriel is comparable to copper or silver on earth in terms of value and rarity. Which makes the prices of goods and services make much more sense. That's really interesting.
Just checked, 1/100 of a troy pound would amount to a 3.732 gram gold coin. Just over a 1/10 troy oz, or 2 American Gold Dollar coins. Making Septims about the size of a US dime. And used similar to the original Pound Sterling, a Silver coin. So it's definitely, logically consistent with historical systems of currency.
    That's solid world building!
