Very well explained. Im doing one tomorrow amd hair school was a while ago. I was the only one at a salon i worked at that could do a perm. But i needed to brush up on the piggyback and this was so helpful, im much more confident now. Thank you!
The first rod is rolled under to create a lift at the root. The second rod (that piggybacks the first) is rolled indent to allow for a continuous curl formation. This prevents a drag in the wave pattern.
Rolling opposite ways allows the curl to continue in a harmonious manner, with no change in the curl pattern. If you roll both rods in the same direction you will likely see a drag (straight section) in the curl pattern instead of a continuous curl pattern. The drag will be where the two rods meet.

What is an Indent? How is it done?
Just like an indent roller. The rod is placed on top of the strand and rolled upward.
