- Hello, hello! Welcome to episode 1 of the Heathen Hangout Podcast, in which I talk to some very cool friends and Heathens about community and what it means to them. Sedge, Sabrina and John are all members of Asatru UK (AUK), and they talk a little about their work throughout this episode as part of that organisation (which I am also a part of).
Community can mean different things to different people.... so what does community mean to you? I am eager to discover ways in which I can help others feel more involved within Heathenry and more connected in their practice - so please, do reach out and let me know!
Lovely chat! Though on Sabrina's list the inclusion of standing against ageism was left out.
On the whole I'm a singular practitioner, though at times I do feel the lack of a community. Largely I think that's because I'm not an Ásatrúr at heart, but mainly venerate the Gods of the Third Pantheon with a few exceptions, and I fear rejection by groups that are mainly Ásatrú based. Also I am quite elderly these days and having watched the various moots held by AUK I certainly wouldn't be able to participate for mainly physical health aspects.

Heya fantastic podcast. Had a wonderful time at Helsmoot. We have just started our own Kindred in Swansea and we are helping out with Asatru Wales. Any tips or help with the kindred would be much appreciated!

Ah amazing! Have you joined the Confederation of UK Heathen Kindreds? I'm also happy to help in whatever way I can personally - I'm over in the Midlands, but anything you need, I can probably help in some way (or at least point in the right direction).
Great podcast love the community aspect of AUK my partner did her first event at Helsmoot and was surprised by the friendliness of everyone there
Oooh, fellow Wirral heathen! It can be very hard for me to get to in person events outside the peninsula though. But without online links I would be so much more isolated as a heathen.

I know that I'm often put off attending group events due to sensory issues (I have visual sensitivity to likes to flickering flames, scent sensitivity, not just about sound and social overwhelm), in addition to other difficulties with attending.
@@liannedrummond6960 I definitely want to incorporate virtual elements for Tyrsmoot so those that cannot attend due to sensory issues can have *something* to experience. It's in the works.
