    I would love to hear a comparison of the different stock Shires, such as the Q series and the Chicago, New York, and Ralph Sauer Models, I am curious as to how the Q series holds up in comparison.

    Is it possible to attach this bell to a Q Series trombone?

    • @SchmittMusicTromboneShop
      @SchmittMusicTromboneShop  5 років тому +2

      Yes, absolutely! The interchangeability/upgrade potential of the Q series is one of the bigger selling points in my opinion (besides the fact they play great!)

      Schmitt Music Trombone Shop Cool. How would I go about ordering this detachable bell upgrade, and how much would it cost?

    • @SchmittMusicTromboneShop
      @SchmittMusicTromboneShop  5 років тому +1

      You would be able to order the detachable bell through any Shires dealer (including the Trombone Shop ;) ) The price for the bell and flat case is $1990.00. If you have any other questions or are interested in learning more feel free to shoot me a message at tromboneshop@schmittmusic.com; thanks!

    I went to all state band a couple months ago and saw the guy a chair in front of me start screwing his bell on and I was blown away because a detachable bell was such a foreign concept to me. I immediately asked him what brand it was and then he told me it was Shires and he even let me play it. Very nice instruments man, the sound is just so heavenly.

      We tend to agree! The screw bell concept is really catching on and it is amazing what a difference it can make with the timbre and response of the instrument. Congrats on the all-state band BTW!

    Could a shires bassbone fit in one of those slim cases? I'm looking into a detachable rose gold bell & It'd be really cool if I could get my bass in a case that small.

      Marcus Bonna and a few others absolutely make cases for detachable flare base Trombones; they are a little bit bigger than the tenor cases but not by much. Detachable flares seem to really be gaining a hold in the bass trombone community; when I was visiting with SE Shires this summer they said 60% of players were choosing detachable flare basses!

    So I have a shires custom TBSCA model horn, can I put this on my horn? And would you recommend it?

    • @SchmittMusicTromboneShop
      @SchmittMusicTromboneShop  5 років тому +2

      Shires is able to do a detachable-bell setup on any tenor or bass bell, although they typically recommend going a bit lighter on the material gauge as the collar does add extra mass. I personally like how their detachable-bell combos play; especially with a lighter bell the collar adds core and stability to the sound and aids the color distribution that I think a lot of players are looking for right now. With the Shires cut-bell case or another similar design they are amazingly thin and compact as well...

      Schmitt Music Trombone Shop thank you so much for the feedback. So from my understanding, it would be wiser to maybe use a yellow brass detachable bell rather than the Ralph Sauer red brass? The rest of my horn is pretty much all yellow brass so would it be too polarizing to add a red bell? I love your videos and you’re always very helpful, so thanks a lot!

    Keith, do stems work with different flairs?

    • @SchmittMusicTromboneShop
      @SchmittMusicTromboneShop  4 роки тому

      According to Shires, no. With the way that they build their cut bells Shires says that the stem/flare fit can be subtly different for every bell; I’ve had folks ask about buying replacement flares and the answer to this point is that they aren’t available...

    If I were to purchase any shires custom trombone, would I have to option to get the bell be detached or what that be extra? Also, do all of the Shires custom horns come with the Marco Magi cases?

    • @SchmittMusicTromboneShop
      @SchmittMusicTromboneShop  3 роки тому

      A detachable bell is indeed available as an standard option, adding $200-300 depending on tenor or bass. As of the beginning of this year all custom Shires come with Marcus Bonna cases, including cut-bell options…

    Hi, if I play with red light Weight bell, I would have to play with extra light Weight Detachable Bell, wouldn't you?
    Thank you in advange

      If we are talking about the Shires LW bell keep in mind that their LW is the same gauge as most other makers' standard gauge. From my understanding Shires will either use a completely different gauge for the screw bells or shave down the material to lighten things up a bit. I will ask for some clarification from them and let you know what I find out!

    I’m so confused on how you would assemble it.
    1. How much is it with just the bell and the case, as you showed?
    2. How would you detach the tubing from the other trombone?
    3. Where would you buy this?
    4. Could you detach the tubing from any other trombone?

    • @SchmittMusicTromboneShop

      Thank you for the message! To answer your questions:
      1. The detachable-flare bell/case combo is $1990.00
      2. S.E. Shires trombones are designed with screw collar connections on the main bell braces allowing for bells and valve sections to be exchanged.
      3. We can order a detachable-flare bell/case setup from Shires; we don't always keep this combination in stock as Shires has a wide variety of bell designs available and players often have particular preferences.
      4. Shires offers detachable-flare bells for large bore tenor and bass; these setups will work on any S.E. Shires custom or Q series large bore tenors or basses that have removable bells.

    Keith, thanks for what you’re doing! I listen to videos like this on headphones so I can hear every nuance of the sound of the trombones you demo. I imagine many do the same. BUT, in this recording, in your excitement, you are emphatically speaking introductory words, like “BUT” ten times louder than the rest of your sentence! The result is that while I’m wearing my headphones, you are blowing my head off several times during this one video! Please stop doing that!

      Thanks for the comment and my apologies for the "pops!" Since this video we have upgraded our recording setup significantly; hopefully the audio quality has become more consistent and less painful!
