- HI all, this weeks video is a review of the Ozito Power X change 18v Chainsaw which was supplied to me direct from Ozito at no charge for the purpose of the review.
Steve from mudduck's 4wd touring and I took the little 18v saw out for a run on a recent camp to put it through its paces.
We were both very impressed with the capability of this tool and it will be making a regular trip with me on future camps.
We did note later that the chain was not as tight as it could have been which may have had a small impact on the saws performance.
Overall, whilst not as capable or quick as a fuel powered saw, there is no requirement to be carrying fuel in the vehicle which makes for a simple use case scenario. An obvious choice for light camp duties.

Good stuff Brett, I think its a ripper! Cheers Steve
After much research and price checking over the past few weeks (your review did help), I finally purchased one of these as a package deal (battery and charger included). Did the usual thing when I got home with a new toy - gave it pride of place on the brekky bar much to the annoyance of the trouble and strife. Ripper machine for what it was made for. Just wanted to say thanks for your straight up review and the side note you posted about the chain tension. Think I might sneak down and buy the Ozito chain sharpener, but best to keep that a secret between us huh. As a side note, I just found out that Ozito is an Aussie company originally called Ozi Tool Company - Ozi To.
Hey Ray. A thanks for taking the time to comment mate. Sounds like you better buy some flowers to keep you in the good books. Glad youre happy with it. Mine still gets regular use in the back yard..
I bought one for just around the house and camping best chainsaw i have ever got no fuel to worry about just chain oil got a new chain when i bought the saw thinking the chain that came with it wouldn't last long still on the original chain and have not had to sharpen it yet thank you ozito.
It's s nice change from fuel isn't it. I was about to go down the road to get petrol for my fuel one on the weekend and thought hang in, I don't need to do that any more 😀 still needed petrol for the mower though 🥺
Good review mate. Cheers! 👍
Thanks bud
Great review mate. I think I'll have to get one.
handy they are, Mr Hamilton
Nice review, it helped me buy it after getting a refund from my 18 month old battery Ryobi that died - and the Ryobi one is actually discontinued due to problems. I've got a similar Echo saw to your petrol one which is great but for simple firewood the Ozito looks good indeed. Love your reviews, fellas. ✌
hey Blizzard. thanks mate. I do love my little echo. I purchased it when my old stihl died and was going to cost the same price to get repaired as the new echo(think I got ripped) . but to my surprise, it's been a great little saw. A mate also got one but cooked his leaving it running on the ground for a whole with the brake on. So don't do that :) for chucking in the back of the car for firewood with no petty to worry about, the ozito is brilliant. so long as you're not in a hurry :)
ive just purchased one at bunnings. great review.. my work will be just for cutting down smaller trees ..
For that Scott, they work well. Let me know what you think once you've had a play with it .
Thanks guys, housemate and I watched this before we went out and bought one, we'll see how she goes.
Most welcome. Keep me posted
yeah good one - i was just looking to tidy up the small trees around the home - also have a bunch of ozito batteries and tools so this will be a good solution, nice work ta!
Was using this last weekend to do just that.
I’m not getting it out for you to cut it! God I laughed!
don't listen to him Mike. It's well under the saws limit for cutting size.
I couldn't agree with you guys more.
I have one myself and I to think it's not bad for it's price.
It's fortunate and convenient enough for some that can't afford the big boys toys.
It'll to get the job done and enjoy your camping trip
Cheers sothea, I agree. I love the little one for around camp duty. It loves in the front of my caravan for just that purpose.
Don't forget the beauty of reliability with the ozito - less swearing
got that right. and my arm doesn't hurt anymore
Good video just subscribed. How about a reciprocating saw and pruning blade vs 18v chainsaw comparison? Seems to be a hot topic at the moment and I'm in two minds.
I have a mate who uses a recip for firewood but agrees its no match for the chainsaw. He preferred it though since it's much smaller and easier to pack. But I'll see what I can do. Good idea for a video
To be honest about the saw, the cheaper 18v saws don’t rock my world. Had one and it drove me nuts as they use a proper chain size running at too low a chain speed. I found to be proper capable most had to be 36v to run a high chain speeds and still have some torque. Exception is the new Milwaukee which is 18v but it’s a beast! Mind you, I’m talking in a whole different price bracket. Anyways i ended up tossing my cheapo 18v chainsaw and bought a decent $20 carbide pruning blade for my recip saw and found it was great. The advantage of that recip saw is you can put if through dirt and mud and it doesn’t phase it. Chainsaw and you got a blunt chain.
One of the guys at work swears by a battery circular saw for camp duties. I think it might be a bit limited but different strokes and all that.
I don't recall if it made the edit but if I knew absolutely that I was going to run into trees down on a track, the petty would go for sure but I did like this for its simplicity from a carrying perspective.
That might be it, with regards to the blade/speed. I noted it jumped a little and wasnt as smooth as the cut. I'd say you're bang on with that comment.
How's the recip saw for speed?
There is a short video here doing a comparison (not mine) ua-cam.com/video/CaQt46uGIvY/v-deo.html
kinda funny, but you get the point :)
Mike Wasowski you can always fit a carbide tipped saw chain to it if that bothered you
Thx for the review. Wonder if this works better with the 5.2ah.
If they made this brushless with an Oregon Chain & bar like the pole saw, might be really good
same same power wise with any of the batteries. just works for longer. and is heavier :)
@@DENMONKEY makes sense. Picked up the brushless 36v today. It’s got nothing on the Makita for ergonomics and weight. But the price was good 😅 thx for the reviews
I hope Bunnings over here in NZ stock them !
Hmmm I'm not sure if they do. Let me know. I'm curious.
Thanks for the review. I want a chainsaw but I don’t really have a use for it 😢
I know exactly what you mean. When I got my first one, I didn't really need it, just wanted one. I ended up just getting a small stihl one second hand . I now have 3 of them in the shed :)
DENMONKEY haha awesome. Guess I’ll find a use for it 😂
Yes, yes you will. I wouldn't wanna be a tree adding your place when you get it though 😁 just be careful with it and take it easy. Watch some videos on safety before you go nuts
DENMONKEY yeah I’ll definitely do that. Thanks again 🙂
It's not designed for an arborist or even a professional gardening. But for purning the garden trees on occasion it's perfectly fine. Light weight chainsaw is still better than a hand saw
100% spot on.
How does the Chain Lube Oil go when u leave the Chainsaw sitting for a while? Does it leak out? I've got one of the Bunnings older 36v versions and its brilliant but I can't leave any bar oil in the saw as it leaks out when sitting on the ground
pretty good. I had over 2 hours of footage that I needed to cut down to this but I did cover that off.
I only put a quarter of a tank in 50ml or so and had a small spot in the bag when i bought it home.
I have however read reviews about people referring to it leaking.
Since I can only talk about my experience, I'd say stick in roughly what you need and its fine.
It was no better or worse than the echo, which is minimal at best.
Still, I always stick an old shirt under them when I store them just in case.
I also use old car oil for mine, so it may be slightly thicker than any genuine bar oil. It's been that long since I purchased some though, I can't remember.
Tip for chainsaws is either blow out oiler area with air as the saw dust acts as a wick and seeps out
Do you think a 150/300w max inverter would be required for the charger or a 300/600w max?
I haven't checked the number yet, but from my research most were using a 300w intverter for charging their cordless tools from their cars. Some did have issues with modified inverters, so it is still recommended to go for a puresine variant just to be sure.
I'll be going with the 300 as a minimum
Use pure sine wave. Modified sine wave will destroy lithium batteries.
Yes Jeff, for sure. I've already picked one up ready to do some testing. Unfortunately, my main per supply sure, so plan b 😁
here ya go Rhett, I grabbed a 350W and put it through some tests with these batteries and it handled it with ease. Here's the video for you ua-cam.com/video/FXsV93RDcqo/v-deo.html
LMAO, my Makita reciprosaw with diablo pruning blade cuts similar sized Gidgee faster and that's damned dense wood. I'd rather put the $200 towards something decent, 18V is just not enough to get a decent chain speed. Thanks for the review though, good attempt to make it seem decent.
Thanks Gavin. It's not going to win any awards for speed but the little guy does ok. Works well for smaller diameter fire wood at camp and is bloody brilliant for pruning jobs in the back yard. No it's not a petty saw but for what it is, I enjoy it.
My main problem with both pole hedge trimmer and pole chainsaw is that they only work with the pole. I wished Ozito can redesign them such that they can still be used without the pole and hence becomes a mini-chainsaw or mini-hedge trimmer. This way you only need one tool to trim the top part of the hedge and the lower part of the hedge. One tool to cut the high branch and the same tool to cut it to shorter lengths once it's down on the ground. If this was the case, it will have far greater use especially for casual users who seldom need to use chainsaws or hedge trimmers
This is true. I've though that myself. It would certainly have made them that little bit more adaptable for various jobs. sometimes that pole even when telescoped down can be a bit tough to wield in tight areas.
The bar bouncing on wood is because its a low speed saw will settle down once in wood
definitely, it's just one thing you have to be a bit aware of with the saw being just that bit slower. it's not fast or super powerful, but the little guy gets most jobs done. very handy. I grab it all the time for small jobs in the yard. thanks for checking out a few of my vids mate.
Cause of your vids i have bought the 36v
Version.
I drive a pajero aswell and have bought a caravan your vids have helped with info and tips
The timber you were cutting was very dry and it's harder to cut than green one, do it will do better job if you cut green branches
I dont really have any reason to cut much green timber . I only cut dry timber so we can make a fire with it. I have used it on green timber at home for pruning trees. but not very often
The bounce is slow chain speed combined with to bigger chain. By the look of it, its running a 3/8" low profile chain. Could l probably be quicker and smoother if Ozito fitted a 1/4" chain. A bit smaller cutters and closer together. Plus speed, but it's a trade off between speed and battery life.
But still better than a hand saw
that's not a bad idea with a lower profile chain. I may try that. SInce you're not really trying to take down big stuff, it might make for a nice compromise there.
I'm still not selling my silky :)
@@DENMONKEY will require new drive sprocket and bar as well. To get it really going if there available increase the number of teeth on the sprocket. That's what we use to do for speed cutting
@@budget4wheeling641 good point I hadn't applied that much though to it yet. But will keep that in mind if I get around to it. If like to though just to see how it performs. To many other projects to get to first though 😁 just need more money 😟
@@DENMONKEY who doesn't, at least you get some freebies 🤗🤗🤗👏😀.
