I’ve had mines since it launched, and absolutely love it. I upgraded to SSD to 4TB, and also installed a version of Linux that looks and operates exactly like SteamOS.
What’s it called
Bazzite. There’s plenty of guides on how to install it. Check Retro Game Corps guide, it’s the one I used. I have mines set up to run windows and Linux on the same drive.

The sound on original was shipped with movie setting. The X is set on game settings. Just change X to movie and same mostly. Cheers
I tried that and the original still sounds louder and better.

@FlossyCarter that's why I said mostly the original speakers are one of the reasons I'm not upgrading. I've already added more space to save games and the frames are fine for what I play. Battery is the only down really. Enjoyed your video.

Steam Deck is fun and I have no regrets buying one, but if I was a new consumer and used to windows, this is a nice pickup.
Only detractor is the lack of touchpads - that is a nice Steam deck feature for sure.
No matter which route you go, you can enjoy each offering.

Yup, not to mention that this stuff is EXPENSIVE! You can pay half the price for a steam deck and have an arguably better experience with slightly less performance.

@@leonroit's not slightly better performance. It's a decent gap between the steam deck and the ally for most games if they're running at the same resolution. I should know I've had both and enjoyed both but ultimately stuck with the ally

Seeing stuff like this gives me hope that the Nintendo switch see many other hand held devices and massively improve the quality on the Nintendo switch 2. Hopefully 2k quality

Price is the biggest thing Nintendo is going for, they know that even adding an extra 50 to it stops a lot of people from buying, especially parents buying for kids
The Switch 2 might be based off of the nVidia Tegra T239.
It's basically at PS4 Pro level for TFLOPS. So the Asus handheld is faster already.

I returned the OG Ally and got the X! Man you definitely feel the difference. 2K needs to fix the crashing issues on 2k25.

@@Ethan_Alexandur I had to send mine back which was one of the earlier released models because of the screen was shut off on me. They set me a new one back and I do not have any problems since then.

I like it . I came so close to buying the white one a few times and changed my mind last minute. Glad they have a black version now . It's $1600 in Australia.
killer review like usual floss, I noticed the sound quality wasn't quate as good as my original ally so i checked the Atmos settings and my og was set to movie and the X was set to game mode. When i set the X to Movie it brought out the bass and overall better sound quality.

the bigger ram would make more sense if it was dedicated to the gpu or the apu but its just ram we wont use cause who is going to edit record and stream with one of these. i have the z1 extreme and if i could compare it to a gpu it would be a gtx 1060

Love mine. I’ve had a few of these from the GPD Win 4, Ayn Odin Pro, Legion Go on and on. I bought the Rog Ally X after skipping the Rog Ally and love it. Upgraded to 4TB memory (super easy) and I’m good. As an older guy, with kids I don’t really find it easy to get on a console. This is perfect. Also if you keep it plugged in turbo will do 30W.

Definitely getting one next month! Playing lying down in bed is great, I had a steam deck before but it broke about 1.5 years after I bought it so no warranty.
Man I can't wait to switch back to an Ally, Floss. I was listening to everyone and switched over to a steam deck. Nothin wrong with it and it's cool too. I just miss my Ally. I didn't even have the Z1. That X looking nice though.
A litlte tip the original ally comes with the movie preset set in the dolby access app and the ally x comes with the preset set to gaming instead of movie....thats why they sound different

Most games I have to set to 900 p with rsr but the games still look and play incredibly. Forza horizon 5 with fsr and high settings is very immersive.
