    Hearing your comments about the approach spacing & go/no-go for landing was insightful [pun intended!]. Thx for these videos!! I’m retired & live near what appears to be your Base of Ops. Small World ~ I learned to fly at SAV via Diamond Aviation in the late 1980’s.., imagine that.🇺🇸

    The amount of situational awareness the g3000 offers is just jaw-dropping. I hope glass cockpit systems become more affordable for ga, it would improve air safety drastically.

    Incredible aircraft. Can’t believe these are single pilot certified, have you flown it single? Seems like a massive workload for only one in the office

    • @AircraftInsights
      @AircraftInsights  2 роки тому

      Thomas - Thank you for your kind comments. We did fly it single pilot but only on ferry missions. Due to the hull value and liability level, our insurance provider was not comfortable writing us a policy that allowed us to fly it single pilot with passengers on board. Due to the level of automation designed into the platform, the aircraft was very manageable single pilot, so long as you were not in a high traffic environment or had a series of failures to deal with. Whenever we went to training that was all done single pilot, so we were familiar with it.

    At 10:10 ATC cleared you for the ILS approach but you didn't push APR on the auto pilot panel. Was that because you knew you were going to be visual and do a visual landing (in other words, you knew you were going to abort the ILS approach)? Or at 11:08 you pressed APR, captured the GS and flew the ILS since you were back in the clouds?

    • @AircraftInsights

      Ralph - Thank you for watching and commenting. Earlier when we were directed to join the localizer I armed approach. With regards to technique, the correct thing was to use NAV mode to intercept the localizer and later arm the approach when cleared for the approach.

  • @secondcitydoood

    If I'm not mistaken, this jet is certified for single pilot operation. Do you ever fly it solo, or is it insurance requirement? I understand , that often private owners can simply afford two men crew for added safety. Do you guys alternate takeoffs and landings, pic duties? Thank you and keep them coming. Maybe little cockpit tour, panels, startup sequence in future videos?

    • @AircraftInsights
      @AircraftInsights  7 років тому +2

      Chris -
      1) This aircraft is single pilot certified.
      2) Different insurance carriers will demand different things and requirements. In our case, we could ferry with no passengers single pilot, and then when flying with passengers we were required to have dual crew. That said, flying dual crew significantly enhances safety by reducing workload, especially in high traffic environments as well as when dealing with an emergency or abnormal.
      3) In our case we switched off pilot duties.
      4) Thank you for your kind comments on videos, I have more footage in the tank, and need to complete the editing and get them posted.

    • @AircraftInsights

    out of interest, when you manually disengaged the autopilot, why did you get the nose up motion initially, I would have thought it would be all trimmed out for you?

    • @AircraftInsights
      @AircraftInsights  3 роки тому

      Mr. Miller - Thank you for watching and the question. Sometimes the aircraft is slightly out of trim when the autopilot comes off and that is why it is always recommended to have your hand on the control yoke prior to disengaging the autopilot. As I understand it the autopilot servos will hold a certain amount of pressure prior to commending the pitch trim computer to add trim to the horizontal stabilizer. In addition, the aircraft can also be slightly out of trim due to configuration, airspeed, or atmospheric changes. Happy flying and keep watching.

    I saw that ballon right before touchdown and thought he was gonna go around.

    • @AircraftInsights
      @AircraftInsights  5 років тому

      Dragon Fist - Thank you for watching and commenting. I did not see the ballon that you are referring to while flying the approach. Even if I had, more than likely would have continued the landing, as hitting a ballon on short final would not inflict any real damage to the aircraft.

    Is it company policy to have two pilots even on single pilot rated jets?

  • @NJTransit1985
    @NJTransit1985 4 роки тому

    I’m not a pilot so Obviously this will sound like a dumb question. While taxing I know steering is handled by a tiller in commercial aircraft (Boeing). In this video there were some turns made (on the ground) but I could visibly see all 4 hands not controlling the turn. What am I missing? Again, I’m obviously not a pilot.

    • @chmorrisjr
      @chmorrisjr 4 роки тому +1

      Parker - Thank you for your question and for watching. In most smaller aircraft the steering is accomplished through the rudder pedals, and there is not a tiller like you might have on larger corporate aircraft and airliners.

      boymedine - Thank you for your comment and watching the video. At KPDK there at two missed approach procedures. The alternative missed approach procedure requires a direct entry, the primary missed approach procedure requires a parallel entry which is the one we briefed. The reality is if you go missed at KPDK, Atlanta approach is going to give you alternative missed instructions with vectors.

      ACT Hobbie - Your are correct that technically I should have left the flaps down until clear of the runway. Thank you for pointing it out. As someone that has been flying for a while, you develop habits for cleaning up an aircraft to ensure that it is ready to go the for the next departure i.e., flaps, trim and other items that are essential for a safe flight. Happy flying and thank you for watching and commenting.
