I test drove the Rapide S and even though the back seats are a bit tight, and the luggage space a bit thin, one press of the sports exhaust changes the game for me. The sound track that this car has on tap is glorious. I have a mix of city and freeway driving on my commute plus long distance driving between Vegas and California on occasion so the driving dynamics of the Rapide tick app the right boxes for me. That and the fact that you don't see them every 5 feet like a Merc or a Porsche sets this puppy apart for me.
Its not just about commuting, which is so fun in a Rapide......you can take the kids to school and pick them up....no other car looks that good, sounds that good and drives so well! and you get to share that experience with your family!
aston martin are the most beautiful cars, and I think this one is bloody incredible. I would more than commute with this car, I would do very long road trips. there is plenty of great cars to choose from, but aston martin cars are very special cars. they are the epitome of classy, beautiful british cars. I would choose any aston martin cars over anything else. there is a lot more to these cars, than top speed. there is plenty of cars that are faster, but none as cool as an aston martin. they are legendary cars.
I second that. You very much seem to understand the philosophy of Aston Martin. Driving an Aston is not about top speed and they could obviously get a lot more horse power of a 6 liter V12, if they wanted to. Style and performance are well balanced. Astons don´t need to impress with figures.
I know it’s not perfect but the competition just can’t bring the sheer beauty and sex appeal of this beast. I don’t care about Mercedes fancy touch screen displays, I don’t care about Panamera’s practicality and performance....when you cruise down a busy high street in a V12 Aston, YOU are the man, all eyes on you! Love it.....getting one!
...this is probably the most beautiful four door car ever...if my friends didn't fit in the back seats...I'd get new friends...Enzo and Ferdinand both would have driven one of these when no one was looking...
I have a 2 and a half hour commute through the Berkshire mountains of Massachusetts during the warm months and typically travel on business in the colder months that said I live alone and would definitely get the Rapide s love the way it looks could definitely use the get up and go I like the four doors even though I don't need them I appreciate the availability in fact I'm heading to the Waltham dealership to get one so excited
I would take an Aston Martin Rapide over a Panamera any day as Panameras are way too common. Personally, for $180K and up, I would go for a Bentley Flying Spur if I was living in a rich area, otherwise an E400 4-matic with just what I need (GPS, backup camera) would be enough car for me.
I have a DB9 that I absolutely love. I commute in it as much as possible instead of my Range Rover supercharged sport. After watching this video, it's safe to say (I already wanted this car) this is my next buy. PS the car seat demonstration made me smile.
On a business trip in Minneapolis when to my surprise, a Rapide S pulls into a parking space right next to me. The growl of this beast is what first drew my gaze, but the lines and girth held me transfixed, this is a beautiful machine, a lucky young man indeed ascended from its cockpit while I drooled unashamedly all the while. This brought me to your vid, nice review. Should a windfall come my way in the near future, off to the Aston Martin dealer I go!!
MotoManTV Personally, I would still get the S63 over the S65. Obsidian black, red interior, the piano black finish with the striping. That would be my S63 coupe. Oh and all the other options as well, even the 4 grand crystal headlamps. 212k Canadian for the car I want as option. What about you man, whats your dream spec for the car?
sexyitalian891 Tough call on this one because I have to see that Emerald Green car in person. That said, mine would be fitted with the Burmester, Magic Sky Control, Wood dash, Saddle Designo leather and, well . . . the Carbon Ceramic brakes . . . because, hey, how many cars are they even offered on???? Let's pick this up again after the S65 Coupe episode . . .
Third Wheel here, Did you see the Motortrend review of the S65 coupe? Their tester was painted Emerald Green Metallic & it looked gorgeous in pictures ! I'd love to see it in person, but knowing our local market ... It would be the usual suspects.
I don't work so I don't commute but I love cars! Yes you can go faster in some other cars (not many as this Aston will crack 200mph!) and you can look more of a douche (gold plated Lamborghini), or you could go for soulless German efficiency (Mercedes, Porsche...) but Aston gives you everything; speed, soundtrack, heritage, race pedigree, craftsmanship, beauty and relative rarity. If you really want to feel special and stand out from the crowd, THIS is the weapon of choice!
Once every 4 Sundays I commute from Assen, the home of the Dutch TT to Monza, Milan home of the Italian GP. A journey of 1130km and 12 hours driving. If I had a Ferrari FF I am sure I would take less time to cover the journey.
I work from home but travel a lot. I want this slice of sexy not for going to the grocery store or running errands but instead to increase the fun factor of being in the car for long road trips.
Great review MotoMan as always. Lovely Aston. I'd select the Maserati GranTurismo Stradale, 4.7 V8 with four seats. Two doors, yes, but a genuine four seater. And that badge and sound. 36km daily round trip. Drive the Maser 4.2 GT. Lucky for you, the Stradale doesn't cost US $330,000+ like it does here in Australia.
targa florio Interesting choice . . . Didn't see that one but can definitely appreciate it . . . Do you think I could get that monstrous baby seat in the back of it:)
We drove the Rapide S on the Goodwood race circuit and around the public roads nearby, absolutely awesome car with a gorgeous exhaust note, despite some age to the design it still delivered on handling and it's a comfortable car to cruise or hit the sport mode and go track driving with. Aston will bring updates through the range soon, as the DB11 shows they have great ideas for the interior, engine development and exterior styling, so don't buy that S63 Merc just yet as Aston Martin has lots more to offer
You picked one cool road to "commute" in ! I usually like black interiors, but I agree with you... Not in this combination ... A really light beige interior with a Yacht line wood veneer (similar to what brabus use) alongside the dark metallic brown would suit the Rapide perfectly. right now, the only Rapide "competitor" I can think of is the Panamera Turbo S ... At least until the 4-Door Coupe Bentley Continental arrive in 2018. for about 300k & this kind of commute (Malibu to LA) I'd get a bespoke Rolls Royce Wraith (I'd love a Phantom Coupe but then we are talking 400k-600k) & have Rolls fit it with a similar exhaust system ... I mean would you just listen to that marvellous exhaust symphony! Lord have mercy. I think someone like Bruce Wayne or Tony Stark would buy a Rapide, remember the scene in Batman Begins when Bruce rolls up to the restaurant in the Murciélago with the 2 supermodels ? A Rapide would be perfect for a situation like that. You & 3 supermodels ;) if you think I'm gonna put a child seat & risk a rugrat throwing up all over that leather think again lol. after driving the S Coupe, you still think the Mercedes is a "Lowly Car"? ;) my current commute is College-House & nowhere as cool as that one. as always M, excellent video & the time-lapse was a nice touch
IceDree Funny you mention Tony Stark . . . that road we filmed on is VERY close to where that Audi R8 scenes were shot to 'Ironman'. So full disclosure - this episode was show well before the S 63 Coupe turned up on our doorstep BUT even then, the 'lowly' was added for dramatic effect . . . :)
Yep, the area looked familiar & the similar to scenes with the R8 ... Dude had a Malibu-To-LA commute after all ;) I realise that ... That's why I brought up the S Coupe to see if you changed your mind after driving it ;) on a more serious note, I think the old CL can qualify as a "lowly" in comparison :) okay, what about you? For 150k-300k what would you choose as a "commute" car?
I work from home so I don't have a daily commute. However, work takes me on regular multi-state trips, often with the need to defy bad weather. So I'd go for AWD. But with the budget you give me I can drive past the Subaru dealer. My choice would be the Brabus 750 GLK V12. With all-season tires and a "350 Bluetec" badge on the back.
NebPWN My boss got his P85D a few months ago. But after the winter, he tucks it away and start driving his 1998 Porsche Carrera. I am sure if he has a Aston Martin, he would prefer that one over his Tesla.
notformebeaky I am an American and I couldn't agree with you more. I really don't get the hype on those cars. Too many people here like to look pretty sitting still and only know how to drive fast in a straight line. It's embarrassing.
My commute involves about 30km one-way of mainly unrestricted Autobahn, with an additional about 10km of rural road and a little bit of city driving. Right now, I am using an Audi A7 for that. With your kind of money, I would favour the Audi RS7, although with a heavy heart deciding against the Aston. I love the sound and the design of the Aston, but I also quite like the sound and love the design of the RS7. With regards to interior quality, Aston's Rapide is only level, in some areas behind the Audi. And way behind the Audi with regards to technology. These are things which matter to me for a commuter car I spend hours a month in. Now, the Vanquish, as a fun car for the weekend, that would be another matter entirely…
Hoffman Estates commute to Downtown Chicago Loop. I WOULD NOT... Again... WOULD NOT drive anything close to $25,000.00 out of H.E township. If I didn't have to worry about getting jacked or just simply getting external body damage from pedestrians or North LakeShore drive 90 or 290 potholes. My car easily would be Mercedes Benz S63 AMG for suburban driving. Just this past weekend I was walking south on Lake front trail (LakeShore). And what do I see turning south off of east Balbo? A Lamborghini Aventador. Someones living the dream and willing to forgo any possible car loss or car damage.
Chicago, commute from lincoln park to the loop. About 15 to 20 minutes depends on the traffic. The ferrari ff is my choice, not four door, but rear seats are quite comfy even for me, and i m 6 3. Also, the awd is a must in the snowy days, which is about 80% of the time nowadays. Bentley continental would be my second choice, not the w12, the v8s. Adding some sporty characters.
For me, i would get a HSV GTS F series in orange, modify the engine to produce at least 800+ bhp and black rims which in total would be around $120 000 i think.... then keep the rest in the bank for new tyres and petrol ;d
I actually walk to work so don't need a car for that. For $300k I would however choose a Ferrari FF, Grigio Ferro with Cuoio interior, black wheels. A proper Ferrari V12, AWD for the winter, four seats for when you need that (about the same amount of room back there as the Rapide, if not more) and an exhaust note to die for.
Is my vision bad or does the name Rapide on the back of the car not look right at 2:26? The D and E do not look right, E looks like it is higher than the D. If so, not acceptable on any new car especially one as expenisve as this. But anyways, good review, just subsribed to your channel this morning.
For that price, I'd get both ends of the spectrum. A P85D, and a Charger Hellcat. I'd even throw in a new set of wheels and tires for the Hellcat and get some 315s on the rear, and still be well within the budget. My commute is only 15 miles, 95% highway, but I've got a mountain I can drive up, a race track to go to, and The Strip all within 30 minutes.
This is tricky one, I would probably go with the G65 AMG, tho this might be my Armenian side coming out but i really like the car, you sit real high, it's powerful, it's loud, it's fairly comfortable, and it's practical, although the engine is a little outdated and the price is a little too high, i think it that's what i would put my money at! My commute consists of two back and forth journeys from Burbank to woodland hills, so a total of about 60-80 miles a day. (Just thinking about owning that car makes me smile, btw nice reviews, you just got a new subscriber)
this is the perfect car for a car enthusiast, it has it all a sexy sounding v12, luxury and 4 doors. this is perfect for getting girls, going on the track and have ur friends getting lit in the back seat. Porsche and cls 63 is cool but the only thing that will compete with the Rapide s is if the mad a 4 door Aventador.
No commute for me either, but if I had a 30+ minute commute (and assuming I had $300K in my back pocket), I certainly wouldn't mind owning a Rapide... It looks and sounds amazing! My choice, however, would likely be the S63 AMG... That is the height of luxury (and torque!) on wheels!
When he mentioned the competition he forgot the Ferrari FF (now the gtc4 lusso) which is the rapides only rival as far as price and spec. I'm sure he excluded it because its a two door four seater and the others have four doors.
from home to work an errands for work throughout the day. i would just buy one of the amg sclass sedans. its the right tool for the job. dealer network for repairs an maintenance makes it easy to own.if forced to pick a car more like the aston... panamera for all the same reasons.
I was just out in LA for work. I drove the PCH last Saturday and Sunday on that very same road. The Aston Martin really doesn't stand out anymore after seeing the variety of cars out there. Great video as always!
JoeyandLindsay I would say hope you enjoyed your visit to the Third Greatest City in The World, however if you were driving around the The Bu, I know for a fact you did . . . :)
MotoManTV I did enjoy it, to the extent that I'm relocating for both work and personal life. I fell in love with the diverse landscape, culture and of course, the cars! It doesn't hurt that my company has another office out there too!
Ive been really considering an M3 or C63 AMG S for my upcoming 20th birthday, but thats a V12. Those do not have V12s. I like that V12. This is the same price. Im getting the V12.
Whilst fascinating the car itself reminds me of the horrible oiks that drive them here in the UK particularly London, where they delight in splashing us mere plebeians as we await our buses, oiks indeed! With that sort of money for my daily commute from darkest Chelsea to Mayfair I would choose a host of Ferragamos and hoof to work in gorgeous shoes with foot care thrown in.Just a thought.
I'll just get an S class (maybe S600) with a chauffeur. Or maybe LS600hL. According to my car's trip computer, my car averaged 13mph for the last 200 miles or so... So I'll just let someone drive the car for me while I relax in the backseat.
the Aston Martin Rapide S Blackout hoofed with CEC wheels completely blacked out is the perfection of the "boring" 4 door family sedan. if you had to, or wife makes you have to get a car with 4 doors and a sedan to be able to pick up and drop off kids at school, karate, ghetto boy-scouts; this is with out a doubt my favorite lame 4 door commuter sedan. used to be a specific special Audi but for a little while it's been this RapidE S Blackout 4 door. unless Fisker comes out with the 4 door version of the Fisker VF1 of course. Lol
I would choose an S65 AMG... but not the pricier 2-door coupé. I've always liked the sedans better. Who wouldn't want to sit back, recline your seat, and watch a movie in the backseat if you decide to spend the night? You just get more value.
@@aymansgarage Uh huh. Riiiight. It's also not used as a taxi anywhere. It is, however, legally classified as a limousine in some countries. The E-Class is the taxi.
i feel the car tried to be best of both worlds but under delivers in both ends. the v12 is to lust after, but not a true 4 seater and too heavy to even be a GT because of the longer wheelbase. Its almost 2tons! I'd get the V12 Vantage S and get another relatively affordable sedan or SUV.
The car needs an update for 2017 or 2018 at least. In the update they need to update the infotainment system, add rear seat leg and head space also give the exterior a refresh.
I LOVE this cat but 4 doors doesn't make it a "family" car. It's a car to haul home the girls you and your boy met at 1 Oak or LIV and you wanted to continue to impress them while taking them to your equally beautiful home.
and affordable...Aston just doesn't have the appeal a Maserati does and I know others don't agree as this is a super nice car. I prefer Maserati myself and I could afford 2 vs 1 of these...lol
I would choose the S600, non maybach, fully loaded with the button down leather. Not really a reason other than that I'm a Benz man. Also the roads in my town are frequently under construction so Magic Body Control would be a blessing. Also S classes are the best cars, full stop.
Man too bad cause the Vanquish is one of my all time favorite cars and I really like this Rapid S a lot. But it's just too unconfortable for a 4 door car...
I actually like the Rapide best out of all the recent Astons, but I'm also a huge sucker for big, fastback sedans in this style; everything from the CLS to the Rover SD1. Commute is from Long Island to Manhattan, about 30 miles, and for $200k - even though I really like this car - I'd much rather have a Tesla P90D + $80k leftover!
ThisAccountIsNeverUsed you hit the bullseye with that. And thats my only gripe with the car. Car charging stations can't match the number of gas stations even in the next decade.
You can upgrade the battery (mine is 450km max). Also, I've never had my Tesla run out of power when I travel through States because there are a lot of super charge/normal charge stations.
ThisAccountIsNeverUsed Ya, but I wouldn't drive for 23 hours and only stop for gas in between. I would take the plane instead if I were in such a hurry xD.
I am buying one soon, to have it for the weekend and to carry a baby with her stroll ... before I only had 2-door cars (XKR, 911, SL500) and lately a Maserati Ghibli (more comfy than the Rapide but less attractive in the long run...) Of course, for long trips you need a clever wife with a more 'usable' car .... what do you think about this set-up? Did I answer your questions?
In all fairness baby and child car seats are a nightmare to fit. I insist the salesman always fits them because as your child grows the seats change and all of them are a nightmare to install especially the European ones- so the key is to buy one for every car you own, get the salesman to fit it and then leave it till your child needs the next size up, having said that its easier to install in a Toyota 4x4 and Mercedes E class vs a bmw 650i coupe - speaking from experience lmao. The bmw 650i coupe car seat installation and later removal - you need a team of salesman to install bent like gymnasts inside your car to get the seat to fit - again speaking from experience lmao
I test drove the Rapide S and even though the back seats are a bit tight, and the luggage space a bit thin, one press of the sports exhaust changes the game for me. yes, it has a much slicker look to it
Fishfingers232 same!
I absolutely agree. The elegance of Aston Martin's is more accentuated with the dimensions of the Rapide S.
@@jonathanrex I'm biased,because I've just bought a 2013 Rapide S. But yes!!
@@gregspark9845 Smart decision! A can´t agree more as I acually have a 2014 Rapide S and Rapide AMR. :-D

I would absolutely love to drive those Malibu Hills!! And the PCH, just everything about the west coast is so enticing for auto enthusiasts!
Chad Baptiste I was able to take the PCH in 2015. Very worth it.
I work from home, so there's no commute. But if there were, then that amazing AMG S63 coupé you tested would be my preference over the Aston any day.
Greg Wallis Going to make that harder on you . . . shooting the S65 Coupe next month . . . and it's coming finished in a proper color . . .

Ohh.. awesome! I'm sure it takes your breath away when you see it in real life.
Another great show. And given that budget, I would not be buying an Aston Martin. I like the Mercedes AMG S63 coupe.
Eric Winters Hey Eric . . . long time! Gotta say, I like the out of the box solution . . .
Porsche Panamera GTS for me and My twin boys. 45 min drive one way. From a curvy mountain road to freeway. Thar would help my mood after a work day.
this is the perfect car for a car enthusiast, it has it all a sexy sounding v12, luxury and 4 doors. this is perfect for getting girls, going on the track and have ur friends getting lit in the back seat. Porsche and cls 63 is cool but the only thing that will compete with the Rapide s is if the mad a 4 door Aventador.
Nissan GT-R might be the competition because it has four doors and it's an amazing sports car
mercedes s65 coupe would be my commute mobile. It has the looks and does everything phenomenally.
my fathers own rolce royce ghost I am getting a gift..... Aston Martin Rapide this Monday ❤️❤️
+PP Games forever Yeah, and I'm Santa
in my mind is right cars againt is, when we speak just rapide: quatroporte GTS. really really good sounding car.
Such a nice Aston!
When he mentioned the competition he forgot the Ferrari FF (now the gtc4 lusso) which is the rapides only rival as far as price and spec. I'm sure he excluded it because its a two door four seater and the others have four doors.
like ur voice super clear. keep up
from home to work an errands for work throughout the day. i would just buy one of the amg sclass sedans. its the right tool for the job. dealer network for repairs an maintenance makes it easy to own.if forced to pick a car more like the aston... panamera for all the same reasons.
Why do Americans fail to pronounce British car maker names ? It's Aston Martin not Martun. Also Jaguar isn't Jagwaar or Jagwire.
My local Aston Martin dealer has a new unsold 2017 Rapide S sitting on their lot for $170,000. It's a hell of a deal, just need $170,000...
My commute is a 1/2 mile walk, so I'll stick with a pair of sneakers for now unfortunately. Got that city lyfe.
Cadillac xts v sport, because it big soft riding and it awd for the snow , I need I ride like that for my daily driver to get to and back from work
Ive been really considering an M3 or C63 AMG S for my upcoming 20th birthday, but thats a V12. Those do not have V12s. I like that V12. This is the same price. Im getting the V12.
Sikorsky S-76C. My place in the Hamptons to Gotham City.
Anybody else see the lambo at 2:00
Whilst fascinating the car itself reminds me of the horrible oiks that drive them here in the UK particularly London, where they delight in splashing us mere plebeians as we await our buses, oiks indeed!
With that sort of money for my daily commute from darkest Chelsea to Mayfair I would choose a host of Ferragamos and hoof to work in gorgeous shoes with foot care thrown in.Just a thought.
Sunny isles to downtown miami everyday... And then once a month miami to Tampa
panamera turbo over rapide, 500+hp, a little cheaper than rapide and it's all wheel drive.
best commuter?? bugatti chiron of course.
bobby Jones lol
I'll just get an S class (maybe S600) with a chauffeur. Or maybe LS600hL. According to my car's trip computer, my car averaged 13mph for the last 200 miles or so... So I'll just let someone drive the car for me while I relax in the backseat.
Great and helpful!
I commute in an Audi A4, Metro North Train and NYC Subway so anything is better then these three!
the Aston Martin Rapide S Blackout hoofed with CEC wheels completely blacked out is the perfection of the "boring" 4 door family sedan. if you had to, or wife makes you have to get a car with 4 doors and a sedan to be able to pick up and drop off kids at school, karate, ghetto boy-scouts; this is with out a doubt my favorite lame 4 door commuter sedan. used to be a specific special Audi but for a little while it's been this RapidE S Blackout 4 door. unless Fisker comes out with the 4 door version of the Fisker VF1 of course. Lol
this is a new first pick for me.. " tuff choice
mine is accelerating alone when cold. a 2013. 23 days without finding the cause
I'm waiting for the Jaguar F-Pace. Solves all of your family problems with style.
I would choose an S65 AMG... but not the pricier 2-door coupé. I've always liked the sedans better. Who wouldn't want to sit back, recline your seat, and watch a movie in the backseat if you decide to spend the night? You just get more value.
that's not fun to drive and looks like an S550 which everyone leases LOOL, and that's used as a taxi
Bende bunun 2014 ü var harika bi araba
that's a good one.... Maserati 4 door GTS
I hope one day you run for office Motoman
Moto for president!
The back needs more room especially especially more head space.
Like fine wine.. Start the Gumball300 and watch The Hoff drive his off after dropping the starters flag.
S63 Coupe for me! :)
Maserati Quattroporte 33 miles of Back Country Road
and affordable...Aston just doesn't have the appeal a Maserati does and I know others don't agree as this is a super nice car. I prefer Maserati myself and I could afford 2 vs 1 of these...lol
1:55 keep your eyes on the opposite side of the road ;)
I would choose the S600, non maybach, fully loaded with the button down leather. Not really a reason other than that I'm a Benz man. Also the roads in my town are frequently under construction so Magic Body Control would be a blessing. Also S classes are the best cars, full stop.
All my friends are short like me 5/4 so no trouble getting 4 of us inside the car
Man too bad cause the Vanquish is one of my all time favorite cars and I really like this Rapid S a lot. But it's just too unconfortable for a 4 door car...
+ImSureOfThis 2 door 4 door 8 door 100 door all same
I actually like the Rapide best out of all the recent Astons, but I'm also a huge sucker for big, fastback sedans in this style; everything from the CLS to the Rover SD1. Commute is from Long Island to Manhattan, about 30 miles, and for $200k - even though I really like this car - I'd much rather have a Tesla P90D + $80k leftover!
Alpina B6 Biturbo Gran Coupe!
I'd pick the Tesla Model S P90D. It's the perfect balance of performance and uncompromised practicality.
I would take the plane instead if I were in such a hurry xD.
also the hirendous cost if one goes bad, also in a crash they are prone to explode and continue to combust lol
LOL that's like comparing an Apple Watch to a Roger Dubuis or Patek
i need that
What do you drive or prefer for a daily commute MotoMan?
What's the fuel economy for this car?
***** Seriously?
MotoManTV just curious
***** In our time with the car, we averaged 13 MPG . . .
i would buy one if i had the money
Mercedes S65 AMG all the way!!
the competition is of course the Ferrari FF. Both are four seat v12.
I go to college which is 50 km away from my home so i would buy a sport saloon car which would be cls63amg
That's not bronze, its "Anthracite" an old colour once used by Ford in the 70's.
It's a type of coal in reality.
2:00 if u pause Lamborghini Gallardo convertible
My girlfriend just bought a Rapide w/ $28k miles. Let’s just say, British car problems. Sounds amazing though
Rapide is way comfier than a Ghibli!
To be honest I would get a s65 amg v12 biturbo and 621 horsepower
hmmmmnnmnmmm Bentley Mulsanne, I don't like how the back seat is separate
