  • I hope this review helps others have accurate expectations for what it can do and the problems that I have run into, one of which makes it now unusable to cook food on.

I’ve seen a dozen reviews or more and you are the only one reporting this issue. I don’t know what to think.

At the 30 second mark, you say your brisket turned out amazing and then less than a minute later you turn around and say the brisket was subpar. Was it amazing or subpar.? You’re going in circles and not making sense

When was the last time you cleaned the smoker? It’s bloody filthy! I’ve had mine for two years, clean every 4 cooks, keep it inside the garage when not in use. BTW that’s not paint it’s creosote. Error is not with the smoker but the owner….

I tried both the pit boss tabletop grill and this model--the Traeger Ranger. Both gave me terrible hopper fires after they had only been used a few times. I cleaned out the fire pot after each use and scraped off the grease. Both still did it. It's my opinion that these tabletop models have too short of a distance from the hopper through the auger into the firepot which leads to these problems. Thankfully I bought both of mine at Walmart and they refunded them. I bought a GMG trek and have had no such issues. It is more like a traditional pellet smoker, but smaller. I really wanted to like both of those grills because they are smaller and lighter weight than the GMG, but I can't babysit a pellet smoker to the point where you have to empty out the hopper and vaccuum out the auger before every single use. No thanks. Hope you get it sorted out.

Lmao. That is not paint! It is creosote from smoking meats. Scrape off and keep on cooking.

FYI. Traeger did replace the lid due to paint peeling as I know it is hard to see due to video quality (they actually do a video streaming app with you so you can show them the issues) and the drip tray for the Ranger so very happy with Traeger's customer service.

I have a Scout, not a ranger. I have problems with hopper fires during shutdown mode. I no longer use the shutdown mode because of that.

That's not paint thats falling off under the lid. Thats grease build up.

I have not had the hopper fire problem yet with my Zgrills Cruiser which is almost identical to the Ranger other than controller, but After running the Zgrills Cruiser hot, ZGrills Australia recommends lowering the temp first for a few minutes before putting it in the shutdown mode to burn off excess pellets.

This is not meant to be a brisket cooker. It is meant to be a “tailgater” type smoker/grill. From the looks of your hopper you may have been using Kingsford pellets or a pellet leaving a sticky film behind. I have cooked several SCA steak cooks at 450F and also done low n slow cooks and never had that issue. Hope you get it figured out. My lid doesn’t look like that at all. Also, I don't recommend buying grills from Costco, and expecting to get Pro model quality. There is a reason why they are being sold at costco. Buy a Pro 780, Ironwood, or Timberline and be done.

Thanks, bought the Ranger direct from Traeger, but I agree with your pro-model point for Silverton. Have only used Traeger pellets. Glad you have not had issues. They did replace the lid and the drip tray for the Ranger and they replaced the lid for the Silverton, so very happy with Traeger customer service.

Is it speculation or you know for sure traeger grills sold at Costco are lower quality? I get why it can be an assumption, but hard to believe such a big brand would risk their brand name to save a few bucks

Looks like a burn pot overfill and fire that is most time operator error, I know this by experience

Gosh that sure is disappointing that they catch on fire/spontaneously combust :/ the same thing happened to my family members Traeger.
Thank you for the review! 🇺🇸🙋‍♂️

Try either aluminum foil or liners on drip tray, u probably shut unit off by switch and didn’t allow cool down

RECTEQ stainless, even new in the store when I saw Traegers I immediately thought, only for profit, big marketing and cheap;y made as much the can get by. the crappy powder coating used in the same league as walmart grills turned me away asap. This is 100% a status brand and not a quality one anymore.

My auger is jammed. I've used my grill twice and always cover it from rain.

    • @marcusnartatez

Even if it's covered if there's humidity in the air there's a possibility of your pellets getting ruined. It's happened to almost every pellet grill I've had. Now I just put it in my garage or empty out the loader.
