I'd also love to see a "paper mini" feature added, where you can convert a .png into a paper cut out mini. This would be super useful for DM's who like importing unusual monsters and custom creatures, as .png's are MUCH easier to come by than 3d models.
Our DM bought it and we had our first session with it last night. In person. Large screen on the wall and we all had a mouse. It was really awesome. We all have tablets and use D&D beyond so we easily integrated Talespire. It was a lot of fun.
Every player has to buy the game in order to have access to move their own mini, roll dice, and control their own camera angle. BUT, a lot of people are just streaming it to players who don't have the game. In my campaign 2 out of 4 players own the game but recently one of those has opted to just watch the stream. I have one player stream it on discord. He moves the PC minis and does all the dice rolls and controls the PC camera. That way the players don't see my GM view as I reveal enemies and parts of the map I have hidden. It works fine that way.
One thing I'll toss in for the price consideration-while it cripples a lot of the great playing features, I've been streaming TaleSpire over Discord to my players, where I basically just use it as a map and move the minis around myself as the DM. It's not perfect because they can see everything you do, but the turn-based method does make initiative tracking easier!
There is a trick to open 2 instances of Talespire in the same PC, so you can have a DM window where you hide and create your stuff and a Player one, to show to your group as the session goes!
Honestly, I never got into any games like D&D and I just don't really have any friends either way, but dang even the building features on this already look so neat lol
I don't know that it'll take over. It's by far the prettiest VTT I've seen so far, and I really want to like it, but it's just way to limiting in terms of functionality. There's things missing from this program that you'd just expect in a 3d program like this. Not having full rotation of items and especially of tiles is a huge detractor, as well as not being able to scale tiles, or have more control as to where they can be placed other than their pre determined snap points on the grid. There's just certain things I can't do here that I can do in other programs and unfortunately when forced to chose between those things and an amazing aesthetic unfortunately the functionality comes first.
Yes. The players can work on it together with the GM. I have not tried that yet (none of my players have TaleSpire. But from what I've heard it is a lot of fun)
@@KorocDM The campaign owner can assign any or all players to GM status, allowing everyone to build/change. But that also means they have access to the hidden GM Stuff. Of course you can switch players back to non-GM access at any time.
The devs have basically said no to implementing a 2D token system. It goes against their chosen aesthetic. TaleSpire is supposed to be a virtual simulation of playing with minis and tabletop terrain. That being said, once Taleweaver is released you probably could make something like tokens. Personally I don't know why you'd want to do that because when you're in the game you have free camera movement in 3D. A 2D token would be far less useful in that environment than it is in top-down VTTs.
at the time I was reviewing it. Yes. I totally agree with you. But I am hopeful they will add more in the future. I think it's worth keeping an eye on it for now :)
@@KorocDM totally agree. Once im able to scale props, make colored lights, resize lights, and have a good fov/fow system so that players cant just see the entire dungeon or look into areas they shouldnt, im all in on it!

That would be super cool and should be relatively easy to implement. If they don't add something like that maybe the modders will!

I had not considered using it like this! Sounds amazing :D
@@KorocDM For those who meet up IRL, It's a very good option as each player dont have to have the game that way.

That is an amazing idea! I have not thought about that at all. Thanks for sharing this work around :D

I love the fact you can copy paste map elements into a .txt file for storage and later use. That is so insanely useful
That literally blew my mind when I discovered it :D

Thanks for this, really useful video and has definitely helped in my decision making! Also, its late but I vote "Gribbles" for the lil guy in the vid
I'm really happy that it could help you. I love the name! Gribbles! :D
Can people customize the map together if your have friends that have Talespire? Like Minecraft?

So good! Absolutely love TaleSpire!
Where'd you go?
Do you think they allow importing of 2D PNG files for the minis? And can they be resized?
The since of the minis can be changed as the GM. I have no idea if TaleWeaver will have the feature to import 2D PNG files.
