This is incredibly self indulgent and dull. People boycott countries for all kinds of reasons (see Israel). Incredibly high ecological damage per capita seems as valid a position to hold as any. Lewis's rigidity as an interviewer here was actively unpleasant. Please bring Emily and Jon back soon!
Interesting topic, but the standard of interview here was pretty poor. My takeaways are lots of bias and far too much interruption to have a constructive conversation. It's nice that you're trying to allow some self-scrutiny, but the execution wasn't up to par.
How many of the people criticising Lewis are vegan, don’t fly, wear 2nd hand etc.? I realise this lifestyle is not possible for many people even if I find it easy. The levels of ethical inconsistency is insane. Don’t throw stones from glass houses
I found this a little embarrassing to watch. Lewis felt like a first year philosophy student that had just discovered nihilism. For right or wrong (I’d say wrong) Norway and Japan aren’t whaling just to leave the whales rotting on beaches. It’s not apples and apples. If you’re fine with going on holiday there that’s fine. There’s no need to do a weird song and dance to justify it.
Where in the world is this argument coming from that we are leaving the carcasses rotting on the beaches, throwing the majority of the meat away? Not even the Sea Shepherd, the organisation most vehemently opposed to the practice and which has a long track record of telling half-truths to further their agenda makes this argument anymore as it is categorically incorrect. It's a brazen lie to demonise the Faroese, along with the random claim domestic violence is common in the Isles? It's shocking how much horseshit this guy can spout without being called out on any of it.
This is a problem with social media, they attacked Lewis Goodall because they knew it would highlight the issue. They should be be attacking the government, the guest's problem was clearly with government policy. Lewis is quite right to point out the hypocrisy here, Japan and China both have an appalling animal rights record, but we don't attack people for travelling to those places. So should we bully the Faroe Islands, because we can actually hurt their economy?
I don’t think I have seen Lewis Goodall conduct an interview before now in such a biased fashion or with such a closed mind. Talking over a guest and interrupting with new questions when the last answer is only half way through make me think his motivation for this piece was not to explore the issue as a journalist but to justify his own personal stance and defend against the robust criticism he has received. Journalistic failure?
I find dairying the cruellest practice. It doesn't matter where you go. Whatever country one names, the humans are cruel. When we put our own house in order, i.e. when the NSPCC is no longer needed, then we can turn to other matters.
I get and agree with the criticism of the practice, it’s awful. I also get the argument that as a massive trade partner by share we have a unique ability to assert influence on the Faroes compared to say Japan. I also get Lewis’ correct pointing out of the absolute double standard and I tend to agree with him. This is a matter for governments to negotiate over and not on someone wanting to go on holiday somewhere. Humans are brilliant and awful all over the world. Travel, explore but also be mindful of the flaws of wherever you go.
Sorry but Lewis’s attitude to make light of the subject is a disgrace. This is a serious subject not a “ Carry on Film”. How can he keep repeating the comment “ but why should I not go “ is unbearable. It’s great that the topic is being discussed as this should really be banned in this day and age. Lewis keeps giving excuses for the Islands. I was thinking of attending there live show in Manchester but no way after this. I would employ any animal rights activists to descend onto Bridgwater Hall , Manchester in protest.
Just to pause as well (I like the guys chat) but if you do bring up Halal/Kosher and it's not great slaughter if you are kidding yourself it's much better than generic UK slaughter might need to look into that.
Personally I don't really care what Lewis does. I do wonder why her chose the Faroe islands and why he chose to tell us?!........self-publicity I'm guessing.
Lasted 5 minutes of this. Life’s too short!
I love the Newsagent and can listen to Lewis anywhere. The frivolous tone for a very serious subject is a turnoff for me.
Definitely is for dolphins & whales living around the Faroe Islands...

The Chinese have some questionable human and animal rights practices. Wet markets, for example. Are we boycotting them?
If the Faroe islands are immoral?...Prince Andrew is looking for something to do over Christmas...I nominate Lewis to invite him over.

The faroes are not independent. They are part of denmark.
It take place once a year.
How many days of fox hunting takes place in England.
Legally, none. It's been banned for 20 years.
So no tourist should visit Copenhagen.
@@stephfoxwell4620 no tourist can go anywhere.

Journalistic failure?
The guy he is interviewing is lying through his teeth, so what knowledge is there to gain from listening to him?
Nah it's a soft way to attract a wider audience - the same reason we hear them go on about their live shows.... Revenue

An ethical trade policy from Truss? Come on.
I love this episode!
Lewis complaining about hectoring in that interview 🤯.
yes of course they are. And now i will listen.
Why go all the way to the Faroes? How about the Shetland or Orkneys?
What about the excessive torture and slaughter of pigs, cows and sheep in Britain? This edition was very interesting and shows our huge hypocrisy
You can be against multiple issues at once. We are after all posting on a page which generally does non animal rights based left politics.

Don't be ridiculous.
Would you refuse to go to Spain because of bullfighting?
He has a Norwegian wife.
He is interested in the frozen North.
The idea that any English person can wag their finger at other countries…
Quite easily mate ☝️
Is this episode mostly about Lewis being desperate for approval to go on holiday.
You could go to Japan....

He has a Norwegian wife and it is an interesting visit on his way back from visiting the relatives at Yuletide.
@@stephfoxwell4620 Thanks that explains a lot.
absolute masterclass in whataboutery - disappointing
Lewis your wrong - giving a discussion to this abuse and trying to normalize this is wrong!
You're
Lewis is playing the devil´s advocate (or is he really so insensitive ?)
