I'm here because of Defunctlands latest video about The Idol experience on Disney. I saw him mention Fantasia, I had not thought about her in a long, long time so wanted to check her up and wow what an audition.
This gives me chills seeing her Grammy performance

The truth about her audition: SHE WAS NOT SUPPOSED TO BE THERE! She said in an interview she loves to eat so she got tired of waiting in line, so she left the line got food, when they got back, the auditions were over (as far as letting people in) her mother begged, the ppl said NO. she begged, they said NO so she started singing to them while they were trying to turn her away. They changed their minds and let her go in late.

Like Randy, I have absolute pitch. I’m telling you, she was flat maybe three times. It’s not to say she can’t sing. She’s the best idol they ever had. It’s just that Paula was giving her some accurate feedback. The second song was pitch perfect!

She’s not a fucking robot, although she was a bit off key, take this into a count: she’s nervous cos it’s an audition, she has no backing vocals, no auto tune, no music in the background to keep her in beat and in tune AS WELL AS trying to add her own twist onto the song, her little ‘out of tune’ moments are called ✨slides✨honey, to add a little personality. Trust me, u don’t want to hear when a singer is put perfectly in tune
@@harrysarada2710 but the point is she was of key, sharp at times. Paula is right and everyone in the comments is trashing her. Fantasia still has a fantastic voice, but there is no need to trash a judge for giving critiques that are not wrong.
@@activelivingchallenger4298 my point is, people don’t realise that she’s doing it a lot on purpose, eg, it’s like criticising Sia for voice cracks when it’s her style and they’re on purpose, I hear that she can be out of tune but I am a musical student, I know a musical ornament when I hear one, you could see and hear her accentuate her supposedly ‘off key’ moments. I’m not saying she was fully in tune throughout, but I’m sick of people not realising that ITS ON PURPOSE, U CAN STILL HEAR IT IN HER SONGS THAT ARE AUTO-TUNED

What Paula was talking about, was that she starts "Killing Me Softly" in the key of A, and at about 1:20 shifts up unintentionally to Bb. I was surprised to hear it, but it's plainly there, not a matter of 'agreeing' or not. Anyone who thinks her 'pitch was perfect' obviously doesn't know what they're talking about, simple as that. Don't take my word for it, ask a musician. Then give Paula some credit for not being the total fool you thought she was. - from a huge Fantasia fan
yesenadam I agree. Fantasia was great no doubt...but there was a slight change of pitch.
:-) But it wasn't slight, (like going a bit out of tune would be), it was huge - going up into a whole different key. Anyone who can't hear that has no business criticizing singing competition judges and is, in a way, 'tone deaf'.

Simon was SPOT ON here. Thank you Mr. Security Guard wherever you are for letting Fantasia back in for the auditions. If you saw the movie about Fantasia and read her book then you learned that tidbit of info. 'Tasia represented for NC hardcore here. One of the best singers and American Idol performers ever that we've had represent for our state. She even showed love back to NC and High Point in a couple of her videos from her first 2 albums after American Idol.

I remember watching her audition and my spirit told me she's the one. The only season I ever watched in it's entirety just to hear Fantasia sing.

Watching this audition is so interesting. One you see, firsthand, someone with IT being 'discovered' -- it's captured on film. Also, what is so intriguing is to watch how the relationship between Fantasia and Simon begins. Fantasia sets it up right away -- essentially saying "you are going to respect me". Because of her raw talent Simon could not help but respect and, honestly, I think he also respected her because she expected his respect. Also, because she received the compliments in such a humble and quiet way. So it is really nice to watch how the relationship continued throughout the competition because it was based on mutual respect - you really have to give it to her - a young woman being able to handle a powerful man like that - class on both sides and was really nice to witness.
I believe she was witnessed before.

And this is when ladies and gentlemen, I knew she would win lol I will never forget b4 my family & I even saw the auditions & it was just a commercial and her Lil part came up we all were like 'ooh who is that?' Then we saw the actual audition and we were seriously like oh yeah she won. Just give her the win lol no matter of her ups and downs, we always rooted for her. American Idol hasn't been the same since she won. She was the best American Idol.

I just saw her perform last night here in Florida and she was incredible. I feel so honored to have been able to attend her show. She actually sang the Tina Turner song. What a joy to be around! She made it very clear to never get up and now I totally understand why

Saw her at Constitution Hall, Washington, DC last year and she was rocking the joint, I mean the crowd stood to its feet when she walked on and never sat down! I'm so glad for her success, as she totally deserves it.
out of all those who came from idol, Fantasia had the most potential to really be something because she had the most talent; I hope eventually she goes back to it and really focuses on her talent and make it into something big
I agree, I think she is by far the most talented American Idol winner and she probably has had the most successful career. Kelly can sing too but I think Fantasia is a overall stronger singer and performer, not to mention she is beautiful

You also have to remember that Paula couldn't really sing herself in my opinion so she partially doesn't know what she is talking about but it also doesn't take a genius or a professional singer to know what sounds good or sounds bad. But they were saying all of this about Fantasia and she ended up winning the whole season.
