Bird also was involved in an unhappy marriage at the time. Bird had a daughter after the marriage had broken up and in order to support himself and his daughter, he left school and worked for the city. He drove a garbage truck, a job he later told Sports Illustrated that he loved.

@@anthonysuches153 Thank you. I didn't have to say it. Defense been outlawed since the late 2000s. During the 2000s where defense was ahead of the offense, then 2004 Pistons winning the title, then the following year 2005s finals Pistons vs Spurs, then the Malace at The Palace they wanted to make the league soft and "Euro Ball/freeflowing/spacing" which basically be matador and props for cheap offensive tactics, circus 3s, flop for fouls and make the "casual fans" happy. Don't let that annoying defense get in the way of putting on great offensive displays. That's if the star players don't have other things to do, they might actually play if we're lucky. While being drilled in out heads that today's players are "bigger, faster, stronger and better" even in street clothes. The game is lost. "Storylines", "narratives" "legacy" and the ever present fictional "best player in the world" and "G.O.A.T." which changes day to day are much more important than the actual games. Oh lets not talk about the trade deadline and free agency. Which really doesn't matter cause in 15 games a player could decide they can't win with the team they selected or they need to "load manage". The NBA it's fantastic.

@Tyrese Maxey0 If you want to compare Tim's accolades to Jordan's, you'll find Jordan's accolades are much more impressive, no disrespect intended to Duncan. As for Kobe, you don't think Jordan pushed his teammates just as hard? Role players like Ron Harper, Tony Kukoc, Horace Grant, Bryan Williams, Luc Longley, and many more fed off of Jordan's intensity, benefited from his leadership. Kobe was great, but wasn't as good a defender as Jordan was. Timmy was great, but he wasn't the scorer Jordan was. Jordan was both a great defender and a great scorer.

By Mj massive standards, Washington years were indeed sub par, however.....
I enjoy seeing him beat young stars like Vince or Tmac or Pierce and frustrate them. They thought the league is theirs, and now is the time to torch Mj and end his era, make him play 1 on 1 and blow by the legend, dunk on him, drop 40, thus increasing their overall league status.
But Mj relished those matchups and eagerly awaited them. He knew those players were soft. He took them defensively in second halfs of games and clamped up. Playing mind games, trash talking. Vince started chucking jump shots, Pierce got angry how Mj was hand checking and refs dared not blow the whistle...... and he shut them down. Then scored big jumpers on the other end. Hit some gamewinners.
    Mj was competitive as hell.
