Just asking for your opinion on a different concept of my own that is quite basic. The build can at least be of 2 ultra strong permanent magnets, one above another where the top magnet stays stationary on a plastic* container filled with water while the other is inside that container. Between the top magnet and the container needs to be a very narrow gap for which a light sheet of lead* can easily slide between the magnets just enough to cause the bottom magnet to fall as if it were a delicate power switch that the rise and fall will help* generate more electrical power than it would take to move the lead* sheet in and out of that gap in least frictionless way, maybe levitated by other magnets. The water is basic to prevent damaging and even far to much noise. . In summary... it would be as if the permanent magnets can be switch on and off like electro-magnets. . I tend to come up with a whole lot of various ideas that worked out awesomely, but... not always able to test some of my ideas out.

I find it puzzling as to why it doesn't get anywhere near as much attention as battery power does especially given that at 7.05 the project manager explains how hydrogen is being used to extend the range of the electric vehicle and as this documentary also shows, hydrogen can power ships and even planes. It will be very interesting to come back to the Orkney islands in 10 years!
Hydrogen leaks no matter the material used as its container as it is the simplest element and therefor the smallest. Any other solid element's atom size would be like a size of a basketball while hydrogen atom would be the size of a marble so there would be gaps between the basketballs for the marbles to fall thru. And if the leak ignites from, say, static electricity the flames would be invisible, so you wouldn't know if its on flames.

@@minamikhaeil9314 it sounds cool but its not logical, the idea behind carbon capture is to take the carbon out of atmosphere. Carbon + hydrogen =CH4, burning of it will oxidize it to produce CO2. The entire process will even be a waste of energy

But there is larger problem of transportation and storage with hydrogen.. And if you calculate the efficiency until it reach your vehicle it is only 33% which is much less than electric vehicle and more over it is not economical
It still makes sense on long distance heavy transport. Like ships due to energy density BEVs would be less efficient due to additional weight. Europe and Asia could benefit from a unified, electrified railway system to transport goods more efficiently :) If we were willing to unifi railway It could take ~50 years just to retire old equipment and consolidate it into a smaller and smaller area. So we don't create unnecessary emissions. To increase capacity we could use double decker trains. For efficiency we could automate train network, drive slower when capacity allows and when electricity is more expensive. Containers that see a lot of miles could be changed to fiberglass instead due better aerodynamics and reduced weight. We should order in advance from bulk so we would need less packaging and less containers with flexible delivery :)
So firstly good video Thankyou for your great work. I do believe green hydrogen will have a part in the future of our renewable world especially in planes , large boats and maybe long haul trucking , I disagree with it being used for energy storage or small vehicles. The main problem is that the base level physics for producing green hydrogen means that you get 20% of the electricity that you put in out . This is unavoidable. Meanwhile grid scale battery storage is cheap to implement, converts electricity at a very high 90% ratios on efficiency, which means compared to hydrogen you get 4-5 times more out of your stored electricity. And the technology is here now and can get us to our goals in time . Same to be said for electric cars , instead of hydrogen where electricity cars can easily have 300 + miles now and most of the charging is done overnight at your home , the only time you need to charge quickly is if you do a long road trip in which you generally want or stop every few hours anyway . So in conclusion I would say green hydrogen has a big part to play in our future but we should be using the currently rapidly expanding technology we already have that works very well , as we research and develop newer technologies to complement them too. But waiting 15 years to have large scale usable hydrogen technologies is too late . We need to be rapidly transitioning now with what we have.

That being said, battery power has still some pretty big challenges, especially when it comes to disposal and waste. I think hydrogen could have a bigger role to play especially if electrolysis of water can be made more economical. While I also agree we can't wait for the transition, it would be great to come back to Orkney in 10-15 years and see the progress of these technologies.
@@industrealised2326 you should look at redwood materials , they say they can recycle 95-98 % of the materials from a lithium ion battery and I’ve heard of others claiming similar numbers , redwood materials are scaling currently , I think by the time large numbers of evs come to their end of life it is likely that most of the batteries can be recycled as long as the manufactures are proactive . Overall life cycle emissions of electronics is widely varied. Even Google search query consuming ~0.3w energy is kind of a guess. It depends on how old of a process ICs are used for server, networking and client device. How optimized hardware and software is for any given task. Weather or not waste heat is reused or forced in to environment with even more energy. Same with artificial light these days. High efficiency LEDs can deliver ~200 lm per watt. Which is a fraction incandescent bulb consomption (~13lm per watt) at similar brightness. Power consumption per MB of data is lower on a Gigabit Ethernet than on Fast Ethernet. Thanks to EEE faster connection can sleep for longer :)
Generating hydrogen from water has low EROEI. Energy Returned On Energy Invested. Also mankind is experiencing a shortage of fresh water. It would be better to develop hydrogen from seawater.
Tidal energy is fully predictable. There are 4 slack waters a day. 2 at high tide and 2 at low tide. So the tide is moving about 20 hours a day. Tidal energy is Lunar. Most other energy sources are Solar.
