That “peanut” flavor is actually kinako, the toasted soy powder coating the warabimochi, and it’s delicious! The fried glazed yams are “daigaku-imo” or “college yams,” said to have been a favorite of college students in Tokyo’s Kanda district in the early 20th century.

The tea is usually made at the beginning with about half of one full scoop of the powder and then mixed with the chopsticks. This is kind of important because getting your chopsticks wet prevents the wood from giving you splinters.
You'll see a lot of the older generation use chopsticks to mix their miso soup before eating their meals for that reason as well.

Warabi mochi and some other mochi tend to be flavored with kinako powder/dust (which is kinda redundant in that the 'ko' in kinako refers to powder) which is, from wikipedia, described as "roasted soybean flour, used in Japanese cuisine." Mostly or exclusively for desserts and Japanese snacks/desserts, I might add. I have never had it in anything else.

If you're looking to go somewhere exclusively for food the only place I've heard be compared as better than Japan is Georgia, obviously would probably leave it to cool of for a bit first but would be pretty interesting to see a big creator go there.

Visit The Netherlands for raw herring with raw onions eaten by holding the fish by its tail and dangling it over your face.
We also have great pancake houses, waffles, poffertjes, Vietnamese eggroles, Indonesian restaurants (cause Indonesia was once our colony), oliebollen (deepfried donut balls) and many more great stuff to try like mashed potatoes (including your vegetables of choice) with smoked sausage as an example for a traditional Dutch dinner.
Visit a weekly market in any town for the greatest cheeses you will ever try (most cheese vendors actually have bowls with little cubes of the cheeses in question, for you to try)
