AWS Is Coming To Cape Town. Why Should You Care? | trying2adult

- Amazon Web Services ( AWS ) is coming to Cape Town before winter :D
AWS is a massive company that provides cloud computing infrastructure and services. They have well over 50 data centers around the world but none of them is in Africa. AWS opening a region in Cape Town opens up a lot of opprtunity for business, job seekers and better experince for certains types of applications like GAMING!
Most major gaming companies like Epic Games (Fortnite) and Activition (Call of Duty Modern Warfare) all use AWS to host their gaming servers. With AWS coming to Cape Town, hopefully this will mean better gaming performance because of the low latency if these gaming companies of course choose to expand their infrastructure into Africa.
I am personally looking forward experimenting with EC2 by doing some video editing on the cloud. I tried it once but the latency made the experience quite horrible.

Bro I honestly love your content 🤧❤️
Thanks a lot man. Glad you enjoying it!
Lol Proudly the first man here. Bro you drop some real fire content, I got through my critical skills submission because of you and I appreciate.
Thank you Philip! That's awesome dude I'm glad you found the content useful! If you don't mind me asking, what's the waiting time been like lately?
I hope we getting SA fortnite servers
I so hope so too. We’ve been tolerating poor performance here in SA for too long.
I love your channel bro, very informative! Keep up the good work, "Quarantinda" LOL! I wish it really exists
Thank you Sandile 🙏🏾 that app would serve us really well during these tough times. 😅
*me looking up if "Quarantinder" is a real thing*
😅 it’s very much needed right now
First time watching this, I was like what is this guy talking about. I thought Amazon is coming to CPT, now I understand
I really hope it comes soon. I’m a gamer and I am sick of 190 ping in games like Fortnite, PUBG, Apex. I’m in Durban so I will really enjoy this.
😅 love your username. 190 ping (which would be a good day for some games) is just sad.
trying2adult 😂yea it’s long as hell
wth , I see u in every south african related video , like fortnite south africa server videos in the comment section
ZombienNoid you too ;)
ZombienNoid I get them in my recommended
Awesome video🔥🔥
Thank you Shivaar! 🙈
I hope it doesn't get delayed though , i just wanna get lower latency in games that use aws like fortnite
Me too! Looking forward to better latency for Fortnite and Call of Duty :D

First to sign the register ✌️
😂 welcome to adulting class
AWS is in dollars and with the current launch, it's 20% more expensive than Ireland (surcharge costs). Glad it's here though, it's just not cheaper :P
Interesting observation and data transfer costs in AWS can escalate real quick...not to mention the Rand isn’t doing too good which makes it that much better. If only they could change their billing to Rands but it’s good their now here though. Things should get better with time.
I want a job at AWS. I have passion in cloud computing!
They have been hiring aggresively over the past 3-5 years in Cape Town. You should have a look at their jobs site you might see something for you there.
Please don't shoot me...lol
😂😂😂
That's a lot of money I am dead😂😁
😂 10 billion is unimaginable bruhhh
The company I work for uses AWS
That's pretty cool! I'm sure their looking forward to this move.
Hey, how do I host my WordPress website on AWS?
Delayed because this danm virus I hope it goes as early as it comes
I hope so too. They did say in the first half of 2020 let's hope they try to stick to that deadline.
@@trying2adult it's South Africa might even take 6 months
Evolve Alonzo doesn’t matter what country it is. Just because it’s South Africa doesn’t mean it’s affecting anything.
I have no tech background and i am currently studying to get certified as the solutions architecture, what are my chances to get employed?
Hmm it’s hard to say. I haven’t been in the Solutions architecture space myself so this is more of a conjecture. Solutions Architecture (assuming you re referring to architecting for cloud application) is all about designing infrastructure for applications and services that run on the cloud. It will be very hard to get into that space if you’ve never worked with enterprise platforms before. Think of it as designing a car but never having driven a car yourself before... or fixing a car engine but you’ve never seen and experienced how a working engine looks like inside... so by it’s nature, Solutions Architecture is not an “entry level” role. my advice is to work on getting some experience with enterprise systems either by developing applications and hosting them on the cloud, supporting cloud applications, DevOps roles, operations roles, deployment roles, etc.
Engineering student here. I'm currently also working on Amazon's online AWS training programmes in my free time. Is it recommended and does it actually help build up skills?
Hey Louis. One thing I really liked when using AWS Educate is that you can tailor your training for a specific role using AWS technologies. It will definitely help build those skills but remember, nothing is better than actual experience; so make sure to work on your own small side projects that use the technologies you are learning about. That's the best way to build those skills.
@@trying2adult Thanks! Appreciate the reply
I knew my Warzone k/d ratio of 0.30 was not my fault.
RIGHT! It took me a while to figure out why I seem to suck so bad at that game 😂😂
Warzone has low ping. Like I get 40 in Durban.
*Warzone has SA servers* 😑😑
Hi, Can we here in SA make use of the amazon service. Last i checked its only available in Namibia
Yes you can! I live in Cape Town and I actually launched my own EC2 instance to use as a private OpenVPN server and other personal experiments.
Will the fortnite African servers come
I believe they will but it might be a while (months to years) until Epic Games launches servers in Cape Town. The region is still new and there's still AWS Services that are yet to be made available in the AWS Cape Town region. There's plenty of factors they have to consider but sadly they haven;t shared much needed information on this.
What about kenya
I think I can use Mukuru...but I’m sure there’s a way. We will work something out.
@@trying2adult are u kenyan
@@trying2adult what do u think is the average ping or ms we will get us kenyans
Will they have data science roles?
Hmm not sure. The closest role I can think of is this one which was actually posted yesterday. Have a look you might be interested - www.linkedin.com/jobs/view/cloud-support-associate-big-data-at-amazon-1802636186/
@@trying2adult Thank you Tino🙏
I hope you're getting promo money😂!
BRUHHHHH they getting all this promo for free! Imma be a big youtuber one day and be sponsored by them :D
I hope so too 😂😂😂
I'm in Pe so I'll get nice ping. I'm normally on 180 with zero packetloss. What ping will I be on when th servers are up?
I have an AWS server in the Cape Town region and I get 1ms latency. However I also live in Cape Town and I use fiber. For the rest of SA if you use fiber you should get less than 10ms latency...so I assume gaming latency will also be around that same figure. But well only know when Fortnite launches their servers.
Quarantinda 😂😂
Business opportunity there 😂 I wonder if Tinder is even operating right now during the lockdown
@@trying2adult I'm sure it is. It's online dating moss 🤷♀️
Tell fortnite to give us Sa or African Servers. You guys need to tell them because they are using aws servers so just tell them
Haha I wish it worked that way. Everyone who plays Fortnite in SA should tweet EpicGames to expand their servers to Cape Town.
Sir! May i please have a link for the study material for aws especially videos?
I primarily use linuxacademy.com ... sometimes acloud.guru and oreilly.com for studying AWS material. However, these platforms aren't for free. Linux Academy releases a lot of their content on their UA-cam channel. Here's an awesome playlist that gives you a pretty good and detailed overview of most of their services (i still use this playlist from time to time) - ua-cam.com/video/BDBvHOaaKHo/v-deo.html
@@trying2adult Thank you
What are the duties of a software development engineer at AWS? I'm applying for that position
