Long shot, the military should fund the research for a reliable railgun instead of the current design which disintegrates after a few shots. Because railguns would be the most capable direct weapon to be mounted on a spacecraft.
They can do both. And 'star cruiser' is not a longshot. Here's the article, if you're interested. warontherocks.com/2021/05/a-starcruiser-for-space-force-thinking-through-the-imminent-transformation-of-spacepower/
@@overworlder I said 'long shot' not because the technology and the capability isn't there for it to become a reality, but because the congress will almost definitely reject the development of such a highly advanced project. Space Force is still just a term coined by Trump during his presidential period, but if Space Force can only truly be established, it need the current president and even next future US presidents to push the idea so that the congress will be compelled to provide even more funding to the already substantial military budget. And there's another problem associated with funding. Here's an analogy: Developing and building a new tank is quite simple, but doing that whilst also creating the infrastructure to support its logistics, maintenance and not to mention the troops required to be trained to use it all the whilst needing the appropriate barracks for the troops and the tanks to be be housed in. Now replace tanks with military-starship. That's the difference between building a vehicle VS a vehicle within a space force.
@@nunya2138 Brownsville is one of the poorest towns in Texas. And I hope you learn what the word colonizing actually means and stop throwing it around every chance you get because it'll lose its meaning. Attributing a business literally setting up a launch site in the vicinity has nothing at all to do with colonization. Plus, going around Dunning-Kruger-ing everything when you have no fundamental understanding of economics isnt a good look either.
@@sylvialiu7907 Colonization: the action or process of settling among and establishing control over the indigenous people of an area. 2nd definition: the action of appropriating a place or domain for one's own use. So tell me again how Elon Musk making his own city and terrorizing those that live there into leaving. "When launches didn't go according to plan, they experienced broken windows, debris, and brush fires" is not colonization. link: www.google.com/amp/s/www.businessinsider.com/boca-chica-residents-complain-about-space-x-2021-5%3famp And you don't have to tell me about my own town. What do you know about Leuven Group in the past few years buying the majority of apartments in Brownsville. Why do you think they bought them? What do you think they're gonna do when people with money start moving here? Hint: raise the prices so people like me can't afford them. Why do you think Musk donated 10 million to the revitalization of downtown? Because the mayor is the one helping him out and he has businesses downtown along with his other rich buddies. The gentrification has already begun. Don't tell me about my hometown. Maybe if you understood politics and history you would see where this is all headed.
@@nunya2138 "When launches didn't go according to plan, they experienced broken windows, debris, and brush fires" is literally just physics. What the hell do you want to do? Bend Newton's third law so that launches are the safest thing in the entire universe? Terrorizing those into leaving? They bought their houses for over 4x the asking price multiple times and offering them multiple benefits to ensure that residents of Boca Chica won't be harmed by the ongoing construction and explosions. Boca Chica is now a site of national security, NASA potentially will exercise eminent domain if necessary, the fact that the government hasn't already is pretty shocking. Those who stayed knowing the danger of launches and the active construction choose to stay their on their own accord. This is not 'terrorizing them', they've chosen not to leave even knowing their homes not having adequate plumbing, electrical systems, and a social services such as fire departments for decades. If they choose to stay so be it, if they choose to take SpaceX's offer so be it as well. Those people who live in Boca Chica there aren't indigenous and are colonizers themselves. You can't colonize colonizers, it doesn't make sense because no one owned the domain the in the first place. SpaceX bought unused land next to the village, no one owned that and they did not buy that from colonizing landowners. In fact everyone in America other than indigenous people are colonizers. The act of moving from state to state to buy property or establishing business being associated with gentrification is plain old stupid. Do not mistake a monetary exchange of any sort of property with "kicking out people who live there" when it's a willful exchange between both parties. "The action of appropriating a place or domain for one's own use" is such a loose definition that can refer to anything in the entire world such as buying a used domain, new house decor, or establishing farmland. Do not attribute the word colonization, which is associated with ethnic cleansing and appropriation of indigenous territory, with construction of a new condo or rail line. If you follow that second loose definition of colonization, everything that humans do each day would be considered as such. Any act of owning an entity and modifying it would be by definition colonization, which in a literary context is acceptable, but in reality pretty problematic. Because if every traditional proprietary exchange under socialism or capitalism would be colonization, then the word would lose it's significance and meaning entirely. Saying that apartment construction is colonization, or that public parks are colonization gentrify that word until it's traditional association with harming ethnic groups and establishing colonial ownership over them worthless. And I'm sorry about the corrupt state of Brownsville based on your firsthand account. Nepotism and lobbying should have no place in politics. Leaders of towns, cities, states, and countries should be barred from benefitting directly from handouts. Revitalization of economies should also consider their general population. Allocating $10M, which considered a rather small amount actually, to refurbishment should only happen only second to revitalizing social services such as healthcare or education.

Good video, except you missed one critical point. South Padre Island, Texas is way closer to SpaceX than Brownsville, Texas. It is popular tourist destination and approximately 5 miles away by boat from the north side of Boca Chica. I'm sure SpaceX employees would love to live there. In the whole video there was only one snap shot of South Padre Island in the background (@7:33 minutes) that viewers could see. I encourage you to rethink the possibilities when discussing the possible future of a SpaceX city. Elon does not need to reinvent the wheel, he just needs to think about South Padre Island and what it brings to the table for incentivizing employees to move. Also, high-dollar space tourist would want be on South Padre before or after a launch. All that is needed is a boat ferry to shuttle employees and/or tourist on a daily basis.
Yeah, Port Isabel stands to benefit a lot from incoming people but it needs to be mentioned more. I think adding a road connecting Port Isabel to Starbase would help out.
Imagine retiring and moving to Boca Chica and then getting paid 3 times the amount you paid for your property a few years later. Effortlessly winning at life.
That does sound pretty good, but from what I heard, some of the owners of these properties had had generations of their families living there for a long time and surely they are not too happy to be kicked out of their home.
It's actually cheaper to fly in their workers for 6 months at a time compared to the amount of taxes they would have to pay the state of California for building and testing starship there.
I’ve been living in Brownsville since 2009 and I’m happy that space c is growing I went yesterday it’s beautiful hopefully they can put resorts around the Boca Chica island area like hotels restraints and a beach view that’ll be really cool and attract a lot of people
I'm up in Austin and with our traffic and overcrowding, sky-high housing costs added to my enthusiasm for Starbase and all it's doing, I'm very tempted by the prospect of life in Starbase, Texas. And hey, it's a beach town!
Imagine being a boomer and getting everything you want, your way, during your whole life, then stopping the progress of the next generations because you want calm last years.
*Good to hear they didn't tear down the existing homes - Just renovated them... **6:13** There is a beautiful neighborhood in Downey, CA in the shadow of the old Rockwell plant... Likely the former residences of Rockwell engineers, etc. Maybe Musk will work on "Sea Dragon"?*
It might be wishful thinking on his part but I don’t think you’ll attract the talented and skilled workforce to move from California to Texas. Other companies have tried something similar and it never works
And it only to build and launch starship...so there is no profit to be made with this...at one point Elon will have to realize that he is going no where with is Mars illusion...after he put 100 or 200 billions into this from is pocket he may wake up...
@ben esterberg Not one person not even Elon want to move there now! the technology is not ready and it's a one way trip for the next 4 years! and the radiations are deadly for anyone that stay there many years.Maybe in 2031 when 4 Starship will have successfully landed with 300+ tons of cargo and robots to build a small base could Elon send a few peoples that have a chance to survive there. We can only land there every two years because when of the planets align and only 10 of the 50 NASA missions on Mars successfully landed. Do you even know that?
@ben esterberg SpaceX has 9 500 peoples working for them;500 at Boca! NASA has 17 500. NASA invested 650 billions since it's start. was one of the first companies to receive money from ; the company was just 4 years old at the time. for roughly half the cost to develop workhorse Falcon 9 rocket. has invested over $3 billion in to develop its Crew Dragon capsule as part of its Commercial Crew Program, which began in 2010. will Elon Musk's $2.9 billion to build a lunar landing system to ferry astronauts to the surface of the moon.
And yet, we have so many people leaving California to move to Texas. The cost of living is cheap here! Make your money here and have plenty of it to pocket!
@@adaster98 The thing I'm wondering though is if it will _really_ be like a traditional company town. It feels more like an old railroad town to me - the company starts the town, but then it grows off of that - the company doesn't own the town itself.
This really is misleading as far as Boca Chica is concerned. Yes SpaceX facilities are located in the sticks, but there are several decent-size cities within 60 miles of Boca Chica. And the area may have its share of economic challenges, but there are lots of recreational activities and plenty of bars and entertainment in the area. South Padre Island, one of the hottest spring break locations in the U.S., is only a short drive away. And if Brownsville, McAllen, or Harlingen aren't wild enough for you, Matamoros, Mexico is just a few miles down the road. And you can bet that housing won't cost you California prices either. You give the false impression that without Elon's Tiki bar and restaurant, all there is to do there for SpaceX employees is to roast marshmallows and sing campfire songs.
Apart from South Padre, Mcallen is the place to go. It's the town to go to for great nightlife and restaurants. Harlingen is a sleepy town. I live here. We don't have anything wild here LOL and most people from Brownsville like to go to Mex.
Enjoyable video and a good narration ... There are heaps of vids screaming what happens inside SpaceX Boca Chica. There are not many that exposes what this rocket science has done to the nearby villages. this didnt either, but made a good beginning in that direction.
Yeah, it looks to me like they’ve cleared it out to either move large machinery through or potentially expand the road in the future. It didn’t look anything like that when I had the chance to visit last year.
All space travel will have the main level of thrust and then a secondary level of thrust. The second level of thrust can use small incremental forms of boost using small materials.

Elon musk and spacex i would say dont do it for the money. now, they arent the only company like this, and im definitley not a spacex/elonmusk biased fanboy, but i think the city is a good idea just because it is cool and futuristic.

I love how Elon and his team are not just thinking about the SpaceX but aswell how to make it more atractive to live there.
good show. i went ahead & bought the S dual motor long range till my tri motor fsd cyber truck get here. i have lost of solar & backup battery system to charge them both at home. i also love spacex too. we drove from California to Texas Boca Chica to see the starship getting built..it was so AWESOME to see it LIVE!!
There was a recent military article (on a UT Austin site) suggesting the US Space Force buy starships for conversion to space cruisers.
Maybe read the article.
@@Joe-nq6hy Tell that to the paranoid US government.
I am from Brownsville Texas and literally SpaceX is right in back of my yard and starship. I go every weekend to go see the process It’s amazing
Just wait till they colonize Brownsville and make it too expensive to live there anymore
@@nunya2138 'Make it too expensive to live there anymore'. Bruh, **head in hands** , society was a mistake.
@@sylvialiu7907 Colonization: the action or process of settling among and establishing control over the indigenous people of an area.
2nd definition: the action of appropriating a place or domain for one's own use.
So tell me again how Elon Musk making his own city and terrorizing those that live there into leaving. "When launches didn't go according to plan, they experienced broken windows, debris, and brush fires" is not colonization.
link: www.google.com/amp/s/www.businessinsider.com/boca-chica-residents-complain-about-space-x-2021-5%3famp
And you don't have to tell me about my own town.
Very cool. This whole situation reminds me of the movie Transcendence.
the hole situation reminds me of Hurrican Ike and Harvey.
I was thinking the same thing Rahul! Great movie!
6:00 Been wondering where the work force was living at while all this massive construction is going on. Suppose that answers that question. Thanks for the vid, some interesting info and a lot of nice shots showing just how much this place has changed from a simple dirt patch and humble construction tent to today's sprawling complex.

I think adding a road connecting Port Isabel to Starbase would help out.
nice , I am expecting to go down there soon
Engineer in WA - 2 years to degree and grad school entry. I will gladly, enthusiastically move to Starbase. Cant wait!
Bucket list to visit now before I die.
Wow :) Stunning :)
I couldn't even imagine an idea like this.
And SpaceX is really doing it omg :)
I’m from there! It’s about time something big gets this place growing in the right direction!
I'm definitely moving there when it's ready, anyone else?
The nearby beach at South Padre Island will benefit from all the tourism and people relocating here
Amazing Video 👍❤️
Wondering if they will build a sea wall? Looks like a sand spit... otherwise - WOW- Excellent!!!!
A lot of the land around there is a State wildlife management area. Boca Chica state beach is right by the launch pad.
8:51 This last part gets us goosebumps
It's actually cheaper to fly in their workers for 6 months at a time compared to the amount of taxes they would have to pay the state of California for building and testing starship there.
I’ve been living in Brownsville since 2009 and I’m happy that space c is growing I went yesterday it’s beautiful hopefully they can put resorts around the Boca Chica island area like hotels restraints and a beach view that’ll be really cool and attract a lot of people

Sounds both scary and cool^-^
a city that starts with a star ship factory and a bar? sign me in!
Governor and Elon: Invests millions in the city, economy will flourish
Poors: Meeh, I dont like
I'm just imagining in 200 years there's going to be a literal spaceport connected to an space elevator on Starbase City.
@ben esterberg You are dreaming! a few peoples(12) living on Mars in 2041 already a very optimistic goal! and how many would die just to get there?
Working at the speed of Elon. Truly amazing!
I freaking love your videos
Is this the 21st century version of a company town?
@@adaster98 The thing I'm wondering though is if it will _really_ be like a traditional company town. It feels more like an old railroad town to me - the company starts the town, but then it grows off of that - the company doesn't own the town itself.
It will sure be Somewhat Different seeing a Rocket company build a city
I thought, for a brief moment, I time traveled and this was a video about Space X setting their city on mars
What a great video! Now 20 SpaceX channels will copy it
If they have trouble finding workers I'll be available right away! Would be a dream come true!

Elon Musk is really a student of technological history. Building a city around an industry comes right out of the past.
And now, they have two launch towers. Time moves fast!

6:23 did they just expand the road, it looks really different? Or did I miss something, Simone please explain
Yeah, it looks to me like they’ve cleared it out to either move large machinery through or potentially expand the road in the future. It didn’t look anything like that when I had the chance to visit last year.
These improvements will come over hundreds of years.
Check Google maps to see the difference from last year...
It'll be far from hundreds of years to achieve the improvements...

All space travel will have the main level of thrust and then a secondary level of thrust. The second level of thrust can use small incremental forms of boost using small materials.
