You may not have noticed, but when Atreus was holding Odin in his arms and moving his soul, it was the same imagery as Kratos’s death prophecy. Changing fate indeed.

I think what really changed fate is when Kratos stopped fighting Thor. That's Kratos changing fate by changing his nature. Because if you think about it, Odin showed up a minute later and no matter how strong Kratos is, I think Thor and Odin ganging up on him would have killed him. Kratos dies, Atreus is mentally broken and stay in Asgard as a prisoner of Odin.

    • @calebstephan2083
      @calebstephan2083 Рік тому +4

@@houseviking4352 yeah i think thats what changed fate but I also think Atreus betrayed kratos in the original prophecy since it was Atreus who cast the soul sealing spell on kratos in the original prophecy. I think in the original prophecy kratos and Atreus didn't make up before attacking Asgard which is what made it easier for Odin to turn Atreus against kratos. I think like Odin kratos in a fit of rage was unstoppable just like Odin was in the final boss fight so I think Odin, Thor and Atreus ganged up on kratos just like how Atreus, Freya and kratos ganged up on Odin. Thor didn't really kill kratos. He was just standing over him. It was Atreus who delivered the final blow to kratos by sealing his soul away. I think kratos making up with Atreus and sparing thors life and turning him good is what changed the prophecy. I also think kratos and Freya didn't reconcile in the original prophecy so I think the change of prophecy was kratos befriending Freya again, building a stronger bond with Atreus and turning Thor good all played a part in changing the timeline.

1:32:49 What struck me about this scene was how similar Freya's dialog was to Baldur's dialog to her was in the 2018 game.
Baldur to Freya: I spent the last 100 years dreaming of this moment. I practiced everything I ever wanted to say to you. Every word to make you understand exactly what you stole from me...
Freya to Odin: I've spent many longer winters thinking about what I would say to you as I watched you take your last breath...
Baldur to Freya: But now I realize I don't need you to understand anything. I don't need you at all.
Freya to Odin: But now I realize there is only one thing I need you to understand. You have no hold on me anymore.
Also, both Baldur and Freya were trying to choke the person they were speaking to, to death. Baldur choking Freya and Freya choking Odin, while the person they were choking was telling them they loved them.

One thing i only really realized on my 2nd playthrough was Kratos becoming more at peace as the Faye Memories continue.
After the first one he wakes up screaming & calling the axe.
After the second one he rises quickly, breathing heavily, then needing to focus.
After the last one he just opens his eyes & rises calmly.
I also came to appreciate the Thor & Odin Fights a lot more upon repeat, even though i agree with the sentiment that Ragnarok was a little underwhelming.
Not many mythologies have an actual ending to their world, but i guess it was the right decision character-wise.
    Great Playthrough ad always, Meg.

I just realized that when Kratos is telling Atreus the story in their tent, Atreus very likely only PRETENDS to fall asleep to hold Kratos to his word to finish the story the next day. Atreus's eyes are closed but his brow is furrowed, which means he might be either dreaming or deliberately keeping his eyes closed. He hears his dad talking about an old man wishing for death and isn't ready for that to become reality, so he feigns sleep to make it stop. The next day, when Kratos finishes the story, Atreus's take is that the old man "wasn't ready to die," which was how he saw the situation: the whole time, he had been looking for a way to "avoid his father's death." But Kratos corrects him subtlely: "he wished to continue living." Kratos had already accepted that he would likely die at Ragnarök, but his vision of Faye gave him new motivation to stay in the world and help those he had come to care about.

There's a theory that Freya might be kratos next wife. The giants called kratos "farbauti" according to the murals and farbauti means "cruel striker" in Norse and farbauti was Faye's actual husband in the real Norse myth. Freya's husbands name in Norse myth translates to "fury" which is what he was called by the vanir gods. Also Freya also had a two other daughters in Norse myth besides baldur who she had from her first marriage to Odin. Her two daughters don't exist yes from what we've seen.

From the moment Kratos steps into the tent the night before the battle to when they charge through the gate to Asgard is my favorite part of the game.
The 2018 game had a section of its game that was perfect, and it was when Atreus collapsed to when Kratos got the Blades of Chaos and used them for the first time in that game. That entire section of that game was perfect. Music, dialog, pacing, acting, everything was perfect. Couldn't have been done any better.

God what a playthrough this was! I was so hyped during your boss fights with both Thor and Odin. I was so sad that Thor was killed off, especially after you finally stood up to Odin. I would've loved to have seen a relationship with Kratos and Thor. But of course Odin had to be the worst person ever and kill off his own son, who he hadn't treated well at all and just used him as a weapon. Though Odin pretty much used everyone (especially his own family) as tools and manipulated/abused them for his own self-interest. But that ending of Kratos looking of the prophecy where he is pretty much the new All-Father and breaking down. Also you breaking down at the end as well. I've said it time and time again, but I just love your playthroughs Meg cause I love how emotionally invested you get into them. She got it right, Kratos did take the place of Odin as the new All-Father. According to the Norse myths, Baldur will be killed by Loki indirectly with spear/arrow tip made of mistletoe, which is the onset of Ragnarok. Heimdall will blow the Gjallarhorn, which starts Ragnarok. During Ragnarok Odin and Thor will die, then among the survivor Gods a new All-Father will emerge to take his place and rebuild the Realms and lead them to prosperity. Thor will die together with Jormungandr, and Odin will be killed by Fenrir. All the story from the Poetic Eddas check out, if you look at the story in this game during Ragnarok from the perspective of a third party mortal Midgardian.
    1) Heimdall, the owner of Gjallarhorn is said to be the fairest and whitest of the Gods. We know from this game that Heimdall wasn't anything like that, but we do have Kratos who is the whitest of the Gods. My theory is that when Kratos killed Heimdall and took possession of Gjallarhorn, he took the place of Heimdall in the mythos or prophecies as the whitest God who blew the Horn.
    2) From the perspective of the Midgardians, Thor was fighting Jormungandr and then after Thor landed a blow on Jormungandr and it vanished, Thor plunged down and then disappeared shortly after as well. No Midgardians were present to witness the Thor vs Kratos fight and its aftermaths. This will make it seem like killed Jormungandr and then died shortly after.
    3) No Midgardians witnessed the Odin vs Kratos fight as well. From the perspective of the Midgardians, Surtr a great big Fire Giant came and drove its fire sword into the heart of Asgard destroying it. Only the wolf Fenrir was there after everyone got into the Realm Tear to escape and Odin was dead. So from their perspective Fenrir killed Odin.
    4) You can see Kratos taking the place of the new All-Father. It was a path that he had never took before, as he was a Destroyer just like Thor said. However, he made a choice to change himself and thus changed his fate. Odin became the Destroyer and Kratos became the Rebuilder.
    5) Now that Atreus has left the nest, Kratos can build a new nest with Freya. According to the Poetic Edda, Freya should still have 1 or 2 more daughters. If you know what I mean.
Regardless, what a journey it was watching Kratos's story. I've been playing the God of War series since the first GOW on PS2, and had been playing and following the games whenever they released. From the angry, violent and selfish Kratos that everyone feared and hated (except Sparta) to the new All-Father beloved by all the Realms. Never could have expected how Kratos's story will turn out.

    Kratos went from...
Being too prideful to die and cost him his freedom,
Then being too hopeless, he thinks he got nothing to live for,
Then back to being too vengeful to die,
Then being too regretful to keep living,
And finally find his place to realize that he still got something to live for.
Dude is the epitome of growth.
When you're young you're selfish and prideful, just to realize later on that consequences aren't as trivial as we thought it was. To realize that we're not the only one who will suffer from consequences of our own actions, just because we're willing to take the consequences, doesn't mean other people would.
You got a bit older and you became bitter and apathetic, your expectations towards people are next to nothing, you close your heart to people.
Just to later on find someone who can knock down your hardened exterior and made you realize that life isn't as bad as we thought it was, and there's still someone and something to fight for, and to live for.

Thank you Meg for your great Videos and for letting us be part of this Journey with you. I can't wait to see what you will play next and until then I wish you a nice Evening/Day and lovely Greetings to You and your loved ones.
I ended up wearing the first Armor you start with, because fully upgraded it increased all Stats.

2:09:45 She was holding all the tears but finally lost it there. People who know Kratos' whole story of course can't hold the tears all the way, all have to lost at some point otherwise not humans.
(I saw you are playing Assassin's Creed series too. AC series is my most favorite game series of all time and when GOW:Ragnarok came GOW became my second favorite game series of all time)

I think the prophecy did come true, it was just misinterpreted. It showed Atreus with his father dead in his arms and some sort of wisps or lights hovering over them. It was literally Odin's death. So it wasn't his actual father, it was the guy who was so full of himself he saw himself as everyone's father, The All-Father, who tried to gaslight and manipulate Atreus specifically so he would see him (Odin) as a father figure. Angrboda mentioned something about the Giants seeing the big stuff but maybe getting a few details wrong. Maybe the vision was hazy and they couldn't figure out who had died but they could feel it was Atreus's "father" they were right it was just the wrong father lol

With the ending of this game I personally believe that Kratos now has one of the best character arcs in video game history. The long and hard journey to grow from vengeful anti-hero to a caring full blown hero, a god to be loved and admired by mortals. God bless Sony Santa Monica, we do not deserve the quality they give us.

The ending of this game was a perfect topper to the trauma cake that Kratos had been forced to endure since GoW1.
He never even considered the idea that he could be a god worthy of being redeemed, praised, worshipped or respected.
He lived lifetimes of being called a monster, but no longer.

First game started with “now there’s no hope.” God of War Valhalla ended with “god of fools? God of… (hope?)”

Faye hid her true prophecy from Kratos because he sees himself as unredeemable. He is the God of War. He brings chaos and destruction, yet her prophecy saw him as a builder. A peacemaker. To have that conflicting nature in him would be the same as the first game with our boy. The nature of God and Man fighting in him, the nature of Hope and War fighting in Kratos

Not as a God of destruction and murder. But as a God of selfless strength and determination.

"Keep X's name out of your mouth." is just a longstanding, comom expression. This game came out BEFORE the incident you're referencing. And it PAINS me that ANYONE thinks they'd interrupt a climactic, dramatic moment with a random reference to award show drama.
