  • In this video, we work on a Craftsman 8.5hp Wood Chipper Model 247.775880. I show how to clean the carburetor and sharpen the blades. It has been sitting for 10 years and needs some love. Will it run? Can we fix it?

I just picked one of these up for free. Haven’t messed with a chipper before so I’m glad you had this video up

Awesome video! The house I just bought has half an acre of woods and one of these under a tarp in the woods. It fired up, but it is all rusty. Thanks for the in depth video.

Great video. I was just given a Craftsman chipper that a tree has fallen on. Pretty sure it will need everything you just did. Perfect timing.

Thank you for a detailed walk-through.
I know what to expect now from my garage sale find.
You are probably my long-lost brother.
    Time to do the rebuild!

@@MeleeMotors thank you for the insight on how these chippers work! It’s always good to know what you’re getting into before you tear something apart, and I didn’t even think about sharpening the blades until I watched video! I was just focused on getting it running.

Thanks for the feedback! That's exactly what I'm trying to do. Just make helpful videos all about mechanics and fixing broken vehicles. I'm so glad it helped you out, Greg!

@MeleeMotors this is the kind of practical real world very niche tutorial videos that specific people benefit from a lot and most don't need! I bought one of these today, it runs okay but i already noticed the blades suck and the carb should probably just be replaced if it's so cheap. I didn't even know where to start an hour ago, now I do. You the man.

what tip did you use on the flat side of the blade screws. The hole on mine are rusted a litte and Im afraid that I will strip it out if I dont have the exact right fit. I thought about grinding down an old allen wrench to fit perfectly but I was afraid the fit wouldnt be snug enough

Best of my knowledge, it was a torx bit, like a t25 or a t30, but maybe could have been just allen head, i dont quite remember. My best advice is to clean the top of the bolt completely and verify for yourself if you can see the star shape for a torx bit or not

If your search part number 640140 on ebay, it's one of the top listings. His store name on ebay is "autocparts"
