    tirpitz sunk in norway not in italy.....

  • @Hocking1973

    This is not the Tirpitz as it no longer exists. It was sunk in Norway in 1944 where it remained until after the war. Salvage operations lasting from 1948 through 1957 completely removed the sunken ship in parts. The only thing that remains is minor debris on the beach and surrounding area. The Tirpitz is no more. My guess is that this is an Italian ship sunk by the British at an Italian naval base if it is truly in San Remo.

      +Hocking1973 Hey:) Yeah, this isnt near what Tirpitz looks like today. Over 70% and up of the hull was removed and scraped and re-used by the germans during WW2. Today there is still hundred of tonnes of debree and scrap laying on the seabed. The Tirpitz wreck where is it today is protected, no diving allowed.

    The Tirpitz was sunk by the RAF in 1944 in Tromso Fjord off the island of Haakoy. Been there, it has been salvaged but you can find pieces all over the beach on Haakoy and there is a monument left there that is a piece of the steel plating of the Tirpitz with a plaque in English, German and Norwegian. They used Tallboy bombs and left a couple of big "ponds" on the island where a couple of bombs had missed.

    The battle ship tirpitz sunk in shallow water in Norway and was half out of the water at the end of the war she was scrapped by a Norwegian company and took a couple of years to do.

      Carl Fitzpatrick: You are right.Thats the truth.This is a fake video,it is not the DKM Tirpitz.The Tirpitz was scrapped in Tromsø Norway after it was bombed from the Royal Airforce.But they used some of the Krupp Steel of the Tirpitz in the local area of the place where she was scrapped and there is a museum etc.But small pieces of the Ship are still on the ground,no big ones as far as I know.

    Lol, they would have a had a fun time hitting this beast "actual Turpitz" if it werent docked. Amazing that it took 15 direct hits from bombs that were just thought of/invented months or even days before the attack. Bombs that cuased artifical earthquakes, what a beast of a ship... Aw inspiring POWA.

    At 1:05 there appears to be a generous amount of penetrating surface light. The description states (278 feet) of depth. I'm not a diver but anyone who is can ans: Does sunlight penetrate to 278 feet in the ocean, with the numerous natural chemicals found in the ocean + the organic and microscopic particles ??

    @Scotishirony I thought it was damagd by british mini subs called X-1 - X5

    • @MTLRNN
      @MTLRNN 4 роки тому

      The X craft did indeed heavily damage the battleship with two mines placed directly beneath it after much tribulation getting under the damned thing in the first place. What's more intense is the crew of the Xcraft were captured and taken aboard the Tirpitz moments before their own bombs detonated. They did the British thing to do and politely explained to the Germans that there was a bomb under the ship which gave them just enough time to warm up the engines and try to evade which is what saved the captives they got lucky and were on the side of the ship that didn't explode. This is not what sank the Tirpitz though nor was it the first attempt by midget subs to sneak up on her, Should read about the scottish froggmen in diving suits who disguised a midget sub carrier as a fishing trawler to ride little manned torpedoes called "chariots" up through the fjord Tirpitz was moored. Didn't actually work as they lost both midget subs in a storm before they ever got to their destination but it is still a fascinating piece of hardware to google. But no it was definitely the RAF dropping "Tall Boys" hitting her twice that capsized her. Tirpitz rolled over so hard and violently she burried most of her superstructure in the mud, I think the Tall Boy AkA Earthquake bomb was specifically designed with Tirpitz in mind as previous bombing runs did nothing to her armoured deck hence the multiple failed attempts to hit her from bellow.

  • @buddyanddaisy123
    @buddyanddaisy123 9 років тому

    Wasn't the two gun turrets a big disadvantage? A comparable British BB could fire a 9 shell broadside, vs. Turpitz' 6 guns. these ships also had smaller crews and more limited range. The real reason what it spent so much time hiding in a fjord was the threat of british submarines.

    • @maverick392cid
      @maverick392cid 9 років тому +2

      The Tirpitz had 8 guns not 6. They were placed in 4 turrets. ie 4 sets of 2 guns. And the reason she was in the fjords was to threaten the artic convoys. Britsh subs really never did that much to her, except the midget subs. As for crew and range, she was about evenly match with her British counterparts.

    • @nilsvoelkel7970
      @nilsvoelkel7970 8 років тому

      +Ad Mirer right the twin gun turrets have at least 33 percent less power than the tripple turrets, so the tripples are much better, advantage Iowa Class + nelson battle ship
      yes if the would use the tirpitz similar like bismarck so they also would lose the tirpitz on the same way like bismarck
      just throughout the bombers, they would make the job, the Tirpitz had bad AA and submarine technology otherwise Battleships are very easy targets, play world of warships one single BB is a very easy heap of scrap easy to hit by any weapon
      these outdated battleships like tirpitz you can only really hide somewhere or scrap it instantly or put high effective weapons inside, like Iowa class BBs
      by the way planes are much more effective than ships at all except aircraft carriers
      yes the tirpitz had no submarine detection devices and was low of fuel
      so it was completely senseless to build these type of ships

    • @michaelkroger899
      @michaelkroger899 8 років тому

      reload time of the 2 gun turrets was faster- weight only half- and weight of a broadside per minute was the same and dont forget the better constructed shells..

    the Tirpitz was destroyed by three tall boy British bombs in Norway in 1944 the Tirpitz and her sister ship bizmark were the biggest ships of the war until the Iowa class battleships were made the Iowa and the Missouri then became the biggest then after the war we found out from japan that the ijn yamato was the biggest battleship of the entire war. It took an entire day of bombing raids before we actually sank the yamato what dealt the final blow was the Japanese them selves they blew the ship in half with the remaining fuel and ammo cartiges they had left.
