I have been here personally and just being there you feel a certain presence that i cant even explain my self
I kinow - I've been to Chichen Itza & the pyramid & buildings are very impressive. I picked up a chunk of stone laying on the ground & it had carvings on it - I felt so privileged to hold it, but put it back of course- no stealing from such places ! I think it's likely that the Tikal place was home to a much bigger crowd than the others because it was probably the last & most important place - their central place. Maybe they all moved from place to place until Tikal, so there may not have needed to be multi-millions of humans in the area if they moved around. I don't believe the concept of their disappearance, but they likely moved on once the time frame they believed in was ended - maybe they thought their Gods were telling them what to do. Maybe like the religious nuts who wait for some specific thing to happen, they waited for the end of their timeframe & expected some result that didn't happen, so they all drifted away ? My point is it's such amazing history & we don't really know how their minds worked because we are so far away from their mental concepts. After all even today there are so many different systems & cultures in this world that we will never be able to fully understand why they think the way they do.

There's still a lot of uncovered Mayan temples in the jungles yet just across the border of Guatemala in Belize there's one called Caracol that is said to be bigger than Tikal I've seen countless of them in jungles of Central America each one is so unique in its own way under the canopy of the dense rain forest

The Mayans never disappeared, they’re still here... visit Southern Mexico and parts of Central America and you’ll find Mayans.
With that being said the Maya Civilization did fall for reasons unknown. Some speculate natural disasters like drought and famine, or warfare caused the collapse but it’s all just speculation. It’s as if the Mayans decided one day that they were done with their cities and just abandoned them.
Maya civilisation didn’t fall. Many cities in the southern highlands of the Yucatan were abandoned, others remained populated for hundreds of years. The coastal cities thrived, and many well known northern cities like Chichen Itza and Uxmal were backwaters until their populations exploded after the so-called ‘collapse’.

The book is just a science fiction
The volcano called Krakatoa erupted in 562 AD . This later caused a drought for decades . The ash high in the atmosphere interrupted the evaporation process . The ensuing drought brought famine to the Mayans .
