Battery Saving Switch in Digital Caliper

- One of the problems with cheap digital calipers is relatively quick battery drain. Even when the caliper is "turned off" - so it seems.
In reality, the display off doesn't mean that the circuit no longer drains the battery. Current measurements reveal that a cheap caliper turned off continues to consume the same, or almost the same, current in both ON and OFF state. A quick remedy of the problem is removing the battery when caliper is not in use. Another remedy is to install a switch cutting off the battery.

I always take the battery out.
There are two reasons for doing that: 1. To save the battery from depletion, and 2. To prevent it from leaking inside the caliper.
A mechanical switch solves problem #1.
A lithium battery solves problem #2.
But in case of LR44 or SR44 batteries (Mitutoyo calipers), I would buy them brand name, fresh, and always replace for a brand new every few years.
