Thank you SO much for this! Our dad died in 2015 and his whistle was so distinctive that it felt like we could hear it from miles away! He always got a kick out of watching us search for him by following his whistle! My siblings and I haven’t laughed this hard since before his passing. Thank you for the fond memories!!

Same here! I miss my dad who passed away last December. He was bedridden the last few months and he would whistle if he needed something. Btw I'm 76 years old and just hearing this reminded me of my dad so much. Reminded me of when he came home from work when my siblings and I were kids. Miss both my parents!

My dad was Greek. He had a whistle that for each of us 4 kids, and one that meant all of us. Even the kids on our block knew who he was summoning 🤣 He did other stuff, like charging us a nickel for leaving a light on. He even charged my mom if she left the oven on too long after taking something out of the oven. He charged her a dime 🤣 I’m 71 now and still can hear those whistles in my memories. I'm not even partially Mexican, but my dad also whistles for me and my siblings. One time, me and my dad were at Walmart and he whistled for me since he was waiting for meds and I went to the electronic entertainment section to see if there was anything new.
He whistled for me and I came running. Evidently, someone asked my dad what he was doing, then asked if that actually worked. Right as they finished asking that, I came around the isle and called out "Yeah, dad?"
Everyone involved got a laugh out of that. 😂

The client was black and had been a former well known and still respected NBA player and my immediate thought was surprise he treats his wife like he would a dog. She was a pleasant woman and I could see that they had a great relationship so I asked them about it. He said it was a family thing and was used decades before cell phones if family members were separated especially in public spaces. I realized it was a convenient way to locate someone and found it ingenious.

My dad when calling out to us kids would whistle too. He can whistle pretty loudly. Works well especially when you're across the yard and he is on the deck, they have a pretty large property. Or when at events like rodeos and monster truck rallies with us kids that could be loud and chaotic, though he and his friend who was also a single dad did do a pretty good job of keeping us in a line with one in front and one in back.
Definitely preferred over a shout too.

Im not mexican, but there are some great things i find that i love about all cultures. I absolutely want this in my life. Past present future. So awesome. Also, i love how many spanish and island cultures grandparents are still very involved in the everyday life of a household. The amount of generational exchange is fantastic. The younger generations get to learn from the older ones, and the older ones get to see the fruits of their long life of labor and love while being taken care of and still being counted on. Love this!

28 years ago we went to Texas and while there we went to a Kmart, that was our first experience with Mexican people. Being parents of 5 and fairly strict, we were soooooo impressed with the Mexicans, the kids listened when parent told them "no, put it down" because the kids did WITHOUT fussing and lip. When they crossed the street, the kids were like little ducks walking across the road behind a parent. So much discipline, and we were so in awe of them. 🥰😘 If only all parents raised kids like this. 💜💜💜
