  • Today was a windy, but awesome day. I am in an area competently unknown to me called : Danviken.
Danviken is an area in the municipal part Sicklaön within Nacka municipality, Stockholm County.
The district is one of the oldest in Nacka. The area has been inhabited at least since the 1550s when Gustav Vasa built Danviken's hospital on land that was then within the city of Stockholm. Right from the start, a milk mill was built in the watercourse between Hammarby lake and Saltsjön, called Kvarnbäcken or Danviks ström. There was also a hammer forge here.
In 1619, permission was granted for Gustaf Johan Jung to build a so-called carbon black stove, but it took until 1675 before it started, it was located just east of the hospital. Carbon black is used for the production of, among other things, printing ink and ink. The mill was open until 1856.
In 1686, a so-called saltworks was built between the hospital and the carbon black mill, ie a factory where salt was to be extracted from the seawater. Saltsjön contains, despite the name, too little salt, and after a few years the business ceased. Later, the building was used as a madhouse, the so-called Danviks madhouse [1]. Nowadays, this is housing.
    In 1890, Saltsjöqvarn was completed.
The old hospital was closed down in 1915, and the old people who lived there moved to Danvikshem.
In the area closest to Värmdövägen is DanvikCenter. At Henriksborg there is a residential area with terraced houses. Between Danvikshem and Danvik's madhouse is the GOMAN house, a brick building built by KF in the 1960s as a laboratory and office. Today the house is empty.
Saltsjöbanan stops at Henriksdals station, which despite the name is located in Danviken.
In recent years, the population has increased. The proximity to Stockholm's inner city makes this an attractive area. Saltsjöqvarn is now closed as a mill, but the building houses a new hotel.

Stockholm is the capital of Sweden. It has the most populous urban area in Sweden as well as in Scandinavia. 1 million people live in the municipality, approximately 1.6 million in the urban area, and 2.4 million in the metropolitan area. The city stretches across fourteen islands where Lake Mälaren flows into the Baltic Sea. Outside the city to the east, and along the coast, is the island chain of the Stockholm archipelago. The area has been settled since the Stone Age, in the 6th millennium BC, and was founded as a city in 1252 by Swedish statesman Birger Jarl. It is also the county seat of Stockholm County.

Atlanta,GA: when you stop, holding the camera still, I get exquisite detail. It truly creates a sense of "presence" almost as if I were there. Lovely work, I'll keep watching !

This area is new for us too. Thanks for sharing this walk today. Where we used to live its still several stops away pass Nacka Forum.
From there perhaps another 3 bus stops away where Nacka sjukhus is. We board off at Ektorp and not many steps away is Mat Boden before the local hospital lie. The street we lived is along Edinsvagen with house number 26A. The owner's son and family occupy the house now we believe. Very quiet neighbourhoodl. Beautiful memories. Shared some of the walks you did with my sons and wife. Keep at it, you are doing many a favour 👍👍👍

Hey, I actually took the buss out here to Nacka Forum once when I was in Stockholm. Dunno why now tho lol. Isn’t there a Sickla shopping mall, too? I think I was trying to find some cheap glasses or something.

This part of the waterfront is dangerous. Accidentally falling into the water, there is a risk of drowning. There is no exit to the shore.

I think she was a bit bemused, didn't really know what you were doing. Try saying goeiemorgen to them, might help break the ice. They'll think you're saying god morgon with a frog in your throat. 🤓
