Hes expressing his frustration in why the supposedly free world doesnt allow him to love who he loves without judgement because of their differences. I remember dating this Scottish girl named Erin when I was younger, those were good times, it was obvious we were different physically but we were so close, I remember her yelling at me to color inside the lines whenever I drew stuff, and encouraging me to do more sport. She ended up having to move back to Scotland. I’m glad I didn’t live in somewhere like Portland, where you can get killed for that kind of stuff. We also did karate together. Erin, you probably aren’t reading this, but thanks for the advice and pushing me to be my best, my artwork and martial arts also got a lot better too 😂

I’m a white girl so you don’t have to listen to what I have to say if you don’t want but this song gave me more perspective on how black men are viewed in interracial relationships and how dangerous it can be for them. In my opinion I think he includes in the song what his parents told him because they weren’t wrong. This song isn’t rlly about a white girl it’s about how the world views interracial couples (especially the black members of those couples) this song has made me wonder if I could put an innocent POC through that. Even if I loved them I would understand the problems and issues that come with it and be respectful of their choices. I love how vulnerable and open amine is on this album and I will always have so much respect for this man. I wasn’t mad at this song, it made me feel empathetic and it has helped me to better understand how tough it can be for the black members of interracial couples

I personally haven’t seen any comments from black women coming at amine for making this song about an interracial relationship, but I will say that there are two sides to this coin. The one side is the song itself; I think amine is literally just describing the hardships and ignorance that come with being in an interracial relationship. The other side of the coin is the hurt that some people maybe feeling from other things outside of this song. Many times black women have felt ostracized and unattractive by society, even by black men. More specifically dark skin women. Along with that comes the highlighting of white women with stereotypical black features yet telling black women with those same features that they’re ugly. Amine isn’t doing that, imo, but I get where that hurt is coming from. It’s definitely misdirected tho
