    Does it save the game so you can get back to it later?

    • @RetrogamerGenX
      @RetrogamerGenX  11 місяців тому +1

      It depends, at the bottom of the screen when your on a rom file, wher it says "Save:", and it says sram, eep4k, or eep16k then you save the game like you would in game. Then you hold down reset, they say for 30 seconds, I do it for like maybe 10 secs then let go. Once it loads the OS again, then you power off the system. It should of saved for the next time you load up the game. Just go and load it in the in game load screen as you normally do.
      If says nothing at the bottom of the screen then you have to have the controller mem pak to save. That's what that list of game is in the instructions. It shows each game and if it saves to the cart or to the controller pak.
      Supposedly, there's a custom OS for it that you can install, and it does cheat codes, more emulators, and I think you can save all games to the cart.

      @@RetrogamerGenX Why are you holding the Reset down? You just need to push it, when it goes back to the System Menu and states "Initializing OS" that's when it's transferring the data in the SRAM back to the SD.

      Sometimes the correct save mode will not automatically be selected for the ROM you are using, though this should be a rare problem, and may only happen with ROM hacks. You have the option to force a different mode other than the default. I have encountered this issue with version 2.98 of Mario Kart Amped Up (a heavily modified ROM hack of Mario Kart 64). However, if the incorrect save mode is used when launching the game, the game will give you a message at the beginning telling you to use EEP16k.

    Love Everdrives / Flashcards etc. Nice to be able to access so many titles on a given platform, not to mention some hombrews and mods and translations playable on the original hardware is great. A good investment especially for someone like me who was never into the "hunt" of tracking down OG cartridges and really the cost of some of them even loose more than justifies the price and conveniences of Everdrives etc. imho. I understand and accept they are not for everyone but I for one am so glad they exist.

      Absolutely, I am way more of a hardware guy. I love collecting consoles, addons, computers, perfs, table tops, etc... And yes you need the software to run them, but why collect all those boxes, jewel cases, discs and carts. They take up way too much space, when you can have an entire collection on one cart. Now granted, there are some staples, games I have to have in my collection. Mostly Amiga and Commodore stuff, but you know as well as I do, those Amiga game boxes are sooo cool. 🤣🤣

      Playing games on OG hardware is the best way to play them. Emulation just doesn't do it for me. Sure it's great if you don't have the hardware, but there's nothing like the feel of the controllers, the timing of the actual system, and the sounds of the original sound chips, it just makes it sooo much better. 👍👍
      Nice, I hope you get one. These are going for the same price as the expansion pak or cheaper . Got to love it. I remember when you couldn't give the expansion paks away, now their worth as much as the N64 itself.. 🤣🤣 Cracks me up.

    It's interesting you post this video because recently (last 6 months) I've got into buying homebrew N64 games on cartridges to play on my native N64 hardware. I have a couple Zelda games and Goldfinger 64 which was waaaay better than I expected. Turns out my brain and dopamine receptors still get excited for new homebrew games the same as buying official games in the 1990s. If I were to make one recommendation above all it will be Smash Bros Remix. 80 maps, of which 60 are great, and the new characters are so well done you'd think HAL themselves programmed them: Conker and Mad Piano are my favorites!

    • @RetrogamerGenX
      @RetrogamerGenX  11 місяців тому +1

      I've been looking forward to trying out some of the homebrews. Still just going though all the games that came with the cart. Plus I need to get a few perfs like the rumble pak, and expansion pak. Yeah I know I only have the jumper pak. But before this this, I've only really had the N64 on to test it when I got it, and for it's "A Look At" video. That's about it. I only have 5 carts, so this is a eye opener for me to see all the cool games the system has.

      Sorry brother, your comment slipped through the cracks. I didn't see this until now. I have played a few rom hacks on it. Some work, some don't. It really depends on what mapper they are using for the cracked rom and if the cart supports it. Which, I have no idea which ones it supports. So it's really a crapshoot for me. I just try them and see if they work or not. So far been about 35% to 40% work. Were as about 99% of the real roms work.
