    The tall ship Cuauhtémoc of the Mexican Navy is undertaking her 42nd training cruise, visiting Australia and New Zealand. Cuauhtémoc is a steel-hulled three-masted barque launched in 1982, which is 90.5m long and has a mast height of 48.2m.
    Cuauhtémoc is named after the last Aztec emperor and warrior (he ruled in 1520-21), and is the Mexican Navy’s instructional tall ship for fourth-year cadets at the Heroic Naval Military School. She and her 261 member crew are a diplomatic symbol of Mexico abroad.
    This cruise is the one with the largest number of female personnel throughout its history, with 53 women out of a total crew of 261 members.
    This 7 month voyage, travels over 25,000 nautical miles & visit 13 ports. At the helm is Captain (Navy) Victor Hugo Molina Perez. Several nationalities are amongst the crew, including an Australian Naval Officer, Sub Lieutenant Henry Mancilla. They have joined Cuauhtémoc in Fremantle and will disembark in Sydney.
    Thanks to her successful participation in important festivities and maritime events around the world, this ship has earned numerous awards and recognitions, among which are: three times winner of the Boston Teapot Cup; Cutty Sark Trophy twice; First place overall in the 2012 Tall Ship Races; A first and a second place in the Tall Ships Challenge Regatta; Second place in the Colón 92 Regatta and third place in the Osaka 97 Regatta, as well as numerous recognitions for elegant presentation and fraternity by its members. However, the most important thing has been to earn the admiration and affection of those who visit her decks.
    She is a tireless navigator with more than 36 years sailing, having visited 212 ports in 64 different countries and accounted for a total of 5,862 days at sea with 756,085 nautical miles sailed, the latter equivalent to making 35 trips around the world.
