Antz was my most prized VHS as a kid ( that and Space Jam) and the soundtrack just still gets me. The only thing wrong with this track is that it's not longer.
The main theme gives me shivers... it's like demanding you be proud with your misery, the whole "whistle while you work" mantra. Too bad A Bug's Life had prettier colors.
+Thomas DaSilva they were both great.....BL was geared a little bit more towrds children.....Antz was basically a toon remake of Woody Allens Sleeper....I loived them both!

Well, it was a great one. I was in high school when it came out and I remember sitting in the theater and my mind just being blown because I'd never seen anything like it before. Almost twenty years later, it's still awesome.
In the past when I was younger I used to prefer A Bugs Life, but later with the benefit of hindsight I can say I prefer now Antz as i can relate more on Antz plot message than A Bugs Life one. On the one hand A Bugs life was inspired by The Seven Samurai (1954) by Akira Kurosawa and delivers a message about how it's not because of your small size taht you have to be logically weaker and enslaved by others and serve their interests. On the other Hand Antz uses a bit of kantic phylosophy ("Think for yourself") in order to make us think about our actions when we should obey to orders. I relate more on Z's character than Flik, for the simple reason that Z wants to be himself and have time to think about his own good and feels alienated by the hierarchy of a bug society where he can't really fit in and help. The end of the film matches a perfect balance between individualism and solidarity Z with his free spirit help the others to free themselves from always obeying orders and think for themselves and in return Z is now able to fit in the colony and discoveres the true value of team work (he never could really experience) in order to let them escape from Gal. Mandible's trap.
