Mexico '86 was the first World Cup I can remember; I was six-and-a-half years old at the time and is still my favourite. Italia '90 is my second favourite.

My fist Mundial, I was 7 years old, went to first grade. I remember where I was this summer day and where I watch it. I was very sad that Brazil loose, what a bad luck they had, what a drama. This match had something of an old tragedy with the penalty that were lost from the big stars. I would love to watch the Semi final between Brazil:Germany but unfortunately that never happened. Not many people will be aware but in 1982 a France v Brazil final was a distinct possibility which was mentioned as an outside bet during the tournament. Unfortunately those two spoiler nations Italy and West Germany got in the way.

I was 10 and this World Cup was amazing , full of classic players much like 82, some of the greatest Brazilian players played in the 80s and they never lifted the cup, but then again with Maradona giving the greatest individual performance of any player ever there was only one winner in 86
I was the one of the who watched this match at Jalisco Stadium that day. And I can't forget that I cried after the match together with lot of Brasilian fan's. This match was one of the greatest game in World Cup history.

Brazil's goal was 80% Muller. Criminally underrated player that even though appearing in 3 world cups (86,90,94) , only truly elevated his playing style to insane levels durin the LATTER part of his career (96-2000). He was THE perfect partner for any striker that wanted to become a top scorer in a league. Incredibly smart, opened spaces, amazing assists, exquisite finesse ... this guy had it all.
He was very close to signing for Everton in 1994. He came to England from Sao Paulo to finalise the deal but didn't because of how much tax he had to pay from his wages.
That claim is ridiculous. Muller had maybe 10% of the goal. In the passing line of 5 Brazilian players he had a little nice deflection to get the attack going. And that's it. All through the rest of the game he looked like an idiot who is quick and has some skills but zero ideas how the game is being played. In 1990 everyone knows he is the SINGLE reason why Brazil lost to Argentina. So let's get this straight. It was a crime to allow Muller (from Brazil) ever to chose the nickname of an actually great player with the same name. Because the Muller (from Brazil) is an idiot. He cannot think. He cannot play. Does anyone else miss the old telephone commentary? It added more atmosphere and it really felt like the game was being played thousands of miles away. Loved Mexico 86,the strips,commentators,goals,sunshine.

The telephone commentary made it feel like you where watching something from another world! Also you didn’t see most players out of your home country until a World Cup would come around and that made it extra special. The countdown to a WC beginning was thrilling. It’s all digital and oversaturated now. But for 86, it’s forever etched in my memory. Collecting Panini stickers and a massive wall chart. Wouldn’t mind FIFA putting the entire tournament up on here. I would watch a couple of games a day.

Its so clear that the guy could be in the same room commentating and you wouldn't know the difference. Back as far as Mexico 86 commentators had to use communications as the sound of commentary through a telephone while the crowd,clear as day erupted around them. It added to the brilliant atmosphere of a world cup. Now you would need to have the world cup on the moon to get the same commentary these days,such is the improvement in technology.

Esta seleccion de Brazil era muy dotada en el aspecto tecnico y en el toque de balon, asi como en la tecnica individual de sus jugadores y pudo haber aspirado a más tanto en España 82 como en México 86, sin embargo cometio errores tacticos que le costaron los partidos tanto de Italia como este de Francia, con Italia cometio dos errores defensivos y con Francia cometio un error defensivo y Zico fallo un penal en tiempo reglamentario despues de que habia dado una gran asistencia, de no ser por esto Brazil pudo haber ganado estos partidos sin tanta dificultad.

One of my favorites WC matches. You can literally feel the almost unbearable heat of the Guadalajara arena and yet, the two teams offered us a classic game.
The technical level of this match is simply incredible compared to today's football. Too bad Doctor Socrates didn't win a World Cup. He would be remembered as one of the greatest in history. The 1982 Brazil midfield, with Zico, Socrates and Falcao is certainly the best in football history alongside Brazil 1970.
I was 8 and my first world cup. Was allowed to stay up late and watch. Became a Brazil fan that day. Watched many games since and I am old now, and I still think this is one of the best matches I have ever seen. You cannot take your eyes off. End to end football
Apesar do jogo ser bastante equilibrado, a seleção brasileira teve as melhores chances e o lance decisivo foi o pênalti sobre o Branco que infelizmente o Zico perdeu, mas são coisas do futebol e quem sabe se o Brasil tivesse ganho o jogo poderia até chegar na final contra a Argentina. Infelizmente essa geração de craques não foram vencedores jogando pela seleção brasileira.
E tem gente que crucifica o Zico pelo pênalti.(Que na disputa de pênaltis não desperdiçou)Jogo estava aos 30 min de jogo, tinha muito tempo pra correr atrás. Não era pra ser mesmo jogo para o Brasil.
A lateral direita do Brasil estava muito exposta, Tigana chegava correndo pela direita tranquilamente e Josimar não fez um desempenho nada brilhante nesse jogo, se a França explorasse mais o lado direito do Brasil, o Brasil poderia sair derrotado se a França tivesse um meio de campo que usasse e abusasse de criatividade e visão de jogo, apesar que a seleção ainda tinha bons nomes como Sócrates, Alemão, Careca, Branco e Müller do meio pra frente, Telê é um ótimo tecnico, respeito o time que o Brasil teve, mas não era uma seleção que ganharia a copa com um jogo tão modesto, o Brasil só criou no gol do Careca e nada mais. Zico não teve nada a ver com isso, não é vergonha nenhuma perder pênalti, vergonha é não arriscar bater.
Maria Madalena Manotelli sim, é verdade, foi o lance do jogo e lembro que na época ninguém imaginava que ele perderia esse pênalti, o Zico era o cobrador oficial da seleção e o único fator que pra mim pode ter influenciado foi o fato de ter acabado de entrar no jogo e talvez não estivesse totalmente aquecido e preparado pra cobrança, mas mesmo assim não fugiu da responsabilidade. Eu apesar de não ser Flamengo sempre admirei o talento e o caráter do Zico que só não foi o maior de sua geração por causa do Maradona e quanto ao pênalti perdido grandes craques já perderam, o próprio Platini desperdiçou a sua cobrança nesse jogo. Esse pênalti ficou marcado porquê acreditava-se na seleção apesar de que em 1982 era a nossa grande seleção depois de 1970, mas nós brasileiros sempre acreditamos na seleção brasileira jogando bem ou não.
Essa geração do Zico disputou 3 copas entre 78 e 86, fizeram 16 jogos e perderam uma única partida que foi o famoso jogo do Sarriá pra Itália em 82. Infelizmente acho que a copa do mundo não foi feita pra eles.
James Baxley verdade e o interessante pra mim foi o falcão não ter jogado a copa de 1978, época que estava no auge da forma. O grande problema é que tínhamos muitos jogadores ótimos, mas acho que houve muita injustiça nas convocações por parte da comissão técnica e muitos jogadores também se machucaram muito cedo, naquela época era muito complicado lidar com essas coisas.

Este partido es considerado por muchos como el mejor de la historia de los mundiales. Luego de la final Argentina Francia 2022 decidi volver a verlo y compararlo. Debo decir que ambos son partidazos. Si bien este no tiene el ritmo frenetico de la reciente final hay que tener en cuenta que solo se permitian 2 cambios en vez de 6 y que jugaban con el calor de Guadalajara en Junio. Muchas ocasiones de gol, grandes jugadores en cancha. Podemos concluir que este fue el partido del siglo XX y el de 2022 el del siglo XXI

C'est le football à l'état pur où l'on joue d'abord pour offrir un spectacle. Tout compte fait, il faut dire que ce Brésil était certes moins joueur qu'en 1982, mais il était plus complet et plus solide. Toutefois, il y reste tout de même, un style typiquement brésilien que ce soit dans les dribbles, les passes ou les contre pieds. Ceci dit, ils ont fait face à une France solide défensivement et qui grâce à son carré magique a su tenir tête à ce Brésil là. Les brésiliens se néanmoins procurer plus d'occasions de but et ont joué vraiment de malchance.

Brazil's goal was 80% Muller. Criminally underrated player that even though appearing in 3 world cups (86,90,94) , only truly elevated his playing style to insane levels durin the LATTER part of his career (96-2000). He was THE perfect partner for any striker that wanted to become a top scorer in a league. Incredibly smart, opened spaces, amazing assists, exquisite finesse ... this guy had it all.
He was very close to signing for Everton in 1994. He came to England from Sao Paulo to finalise the deal but didn't because of how much tax he had to pay from his wages.

chunky monkeyjohn spot on. I agree with everything you said. The sound....the colours.....the atmosphere, it was a wonderful summer of football. Much better in those days. The telephone commentary made it feel like you where watching something from another world! Also you didn’t see most players out of your home country until a World Cup would come around and that made it extra special. The countdown to a WC beginning was thrilling. It’s all digital and oversaturated now. But for 86, it’s forever etched in my memory. Collecting Panini stickers and a massive wall chart. Wouldn’t mind FIFA putting the entire tournament up on here. I would watch a couple of games a day.

@@SeanGrady90 well we didn't quite have the technology at that time to make the commentary as clear as we hear today.
Its so clear that the guy could be in the same room commentating and you wouldn't know the difference.
Back as far as Mexico 86 commentators had to use communications as the sound of commentary through a telephone while the crowd,clear as day erupted around them.
It added to the brilliant atmosphere of a world cup.
Now you would need to have the world cup on the moon to get the same commentary these days,such is the improvement in technology.
Extraordinary game... Brazil had more chances and should have gone ahead, but France did well to hang in there... I remember watching this live in a hotel room in New York, nervously cheering the blues on...

Brazil had the neatest team to ever walk on a football field in the 1980s and never won the World Cup. Then it had the worst team in the 1990s and won. Right now, Marrocos is in the semifinals against France in Qatar. World Cup makes no sense and that’s what it makes such a mesmerizing sport.

The technical level of this match is simply incredible compared to today's football. Too bad Doctor Socrates didn't win a World Cup. He would be remembered as one of the greatest in history. The 1982 Brazil midfield, with Zico, Socrates and Falcao is certainly the best in football history alongside Brazil 1970.

I was 8 and my first world cup. Was allowed to stay up late and watch. Became a Brazil fan that day. Watched many games since and I am old now, and I still think this is one of the best matches I have ever seen. You cannot take your eyes off. End to end football
Apesar do jogo ser bastante equilibrado, a seleção brasileira teve as melhores chances e o lance decisivo foi o pênalti sobre o Branco que infelizmente o Zico perdeu, mas são coisas do futebol e quem sabe se o Brasil tivesse ganho o jogo poderia até chegar na final contra a Argentina. Infelizmente essa geração de craques não foram vencedores jogando pela seleção brasileira.
E tem gente que crucifica o Zico pelo pênalti.(Que na disputa de pênaltis não desperdiçou)Jogo estava aos 30 min de jogo, tinha muito tempo pra correr atrás. Não era pra ser mesmo jogo para o Brasil.
A lateral direita do Brasil estava muito exposta, Tigana chegava correndo pela direita tranquilamente e Josimar não fez um desempenho nada brilhante nesse jogo, se a França explorasse mais o lado direito do Brasil, o Brasil poderia sair derrotado se a França tivesse um meio de campo que usasse e abusasse de criatividade e visão de jogo, apesar que a seleção ainda tinha bons nomes como Sócrates, Alemão, Careca, Branco e Müller do meio pra frente, Telê é um ótimo tecnico, respeito o time que o Brasil teve, mas não era uma seleção que ganharia a copa com um jogo tão modesto, o Brasil só criou no gol do Careca e nada mais. Zico não teve nada a ver com isso, não é vergonha nenhuma perder pênalti, vergonha é não arriscar bater.
Maria Madalena Manotelli sim, é verdade, foi o lance do jogo e lembro que na época ninguém imaginava que ele perderia esse pênalti, o Zico era o cobrador oficial da seleção e o único fator que pra mim pode ter influenciado foi o fato de ter acabado de entrar no jogo e talvez não estivesse totalmente aquecido e preparado pra cobrança, mas mesmo assim não fugiu da responsabilidade. Eu apesar de não ser Flamengo sempre admirei o talento e o caráter do Zico que só não foi o maior de sua geração por causa do Maradona e quanto ao pênalti perdido grandes craques já perderam, o próprio Platini desperdiçou a sua cobrança nesse jogo. Esse pênalti ficou marcado porquê acreditava-se na seleção apesar de que em 1982 era a nossa grande seleção depois de 1970, mas nós brasileiros sempre acreditamos na seleção brasileira jogando bem ou não.
Essa geração do Zico disputou 3 copas entre 78 e 86, fizeram 16 jogos e perderam uma única partida que foi o famoso jogo do Sarriá pra Itália em 82. Infelizmente acho que a copa do mundo não foi feita pra eles.
James Baxley verdade e o interessante pra mim foi o falcão não ter jogado a copa de 1978, época que estava no auge da forma. O grande problema é que tínhamos muitos jogadores ótimos, mas acho que houve muita injustiça nas convocações por parte da comissão técnica e muitos jogadores também se machucaram muito cedo, naquela época era muito complicado lidar com essas coisas.

Este partido es considerado por muchos como el mejor de la historia de los mundiales. Luego de la final Argentina Francia 2022 decidi volver a verlo y compararlo. Debo decir que ambos son partidazos. Si bien este no tiene el ritmo frenetico de la reciente final hay que tener en cuenta que solo se permitian 2 cambios en vez de 6 y que jugaban con el calor de Guadalajara en Junio. Muchas ocasiones de gol, grandes jugadores en cancha. Podemos concluir que este fue el partido del siglo XX y el de 2022 el del siglo XXI

Voici l'un des meilleurs matchs de l'histoire de la coupe du monde, intense, électrique et surtout agréable à regarder. Les acteurs sont vraiment d'une très classe. C'est le football à l'état pur où l'on joue d'abord pour offrir un spectacle. Tout compte fait, il faut dire que ce Brésil était certes moins joueur qu'en 1982, mais il était plus complet et plus solide. Toutefois, il y reste tout de même, un style typiquement brésilien que ce soit dans les dribbles, les passes ou les contre pieds. Ceci dit, ils ont fait face à une France solide défensivement et qui grâce à son carré magique a su tenir tête à ce Brésil là. Les brésiliens se néanmoins procurer plus d'occasions de but et ont joué vraiment de malchance.
