Wixams Railway Station update with special guest |

Welcome back to Project Universal and a break in the weather today gives us an opportunity to take a peak at Wixams Railway Station and what is going on. A very wet site is probably hindering the work at the moment but it doesn't stop us taking the security fella for a little walk around his mud mound ending in some stone throwing.

New gantries (portals*) will be installed, existing structures (headspans*) will be removed and one of the tracks will be slewed - all to accommodate the new station. Nothing to do with enabling electric trains to travel quicker per se, which is a separate project that's happening at the same time.
[* Between the vertical masts, portals have a solid horizontal bar (boom) whereas headspans typically have three spanwires - in case you're wondering what the difference is]

I don’t think that is a rail crossing…. I believe it is an area to get dual road/rail vehicles onto the railway… They are mainly used by Network Rail for small overhead wire maintenance… but also by construction companies doing infrastructure work, so it’s maybe prep work for vehicles needed in the platform construction
