@@Gorbachof We're getting more and more copy pasted slop. Everything now is just like cod. Copy and pasted with nothing new except cosmetics. And people buy this slop up so more and more of it is made. Voting with your wallet doesn't work, micro transactions always make too much for companies to swear them off. A big issue is that all of these companies bow down to money hungry investors who already have too much. Causing companies to pump too much money in and need wayyy too much to even break even. Have ballooned budgets given us better games? No. Instead we get companies selling good numbers but still getting shut down because they didn't meet expectations.
It's Warhammer, being out of date is kind of the point. There's a reason why the Imperial Guard's Leman Russ MBT is based on WWI designs, or why Space Marines uses swords and shields to defeat their enemies, being antiquated is what makes It unique.
As a Space Marine 2 fan, i can honestly say that not every game needs a Snoop Dog, Waifu, or Sponge Bob themed cosmetic pack. I think Saber nailed it with this game.
Some people just don't know how to stop themselves from compulsively pathologically playing a game to death and burning themselves out on it. They will literally gorge themselves on the content until they're throwing it up all over themselves
@ChaoticPinky Dosnt need to be meaty content for people to over consume. Like, pringles never truly fill you up, but eat too many, and you'll still be sick
@@matejbosela9093how does the point go over your head? He isn't saying it needs to be like diablo or POE he is saying the game needs content it really is that simple.
@@DirtyDooney22 thats exactly my point - it doesnt need more content. Reading comprehension is Your issue, not me misunderstanding the "lack of content" the OP talks about.
I remember loving the excitement of unlocking gold skins for my guns in cod4. It took real effort and the reward was so simple yet so effective. The value a reward has is directly tied to the effort you put in.
I know right. Remember seeing a legendary cosmetic in a match and going “oh shit I’m about to get rocked.” Then finally getting the cosmetic yourself and feeling the accomplishment and prestige. Without that, I don’t feel very motivated to be competitive online anymore
On the steam forums you'll see lots of people saying the game is not worth it because they "only" had to play the game for 200 hours to get everything. This is insane.
The Steam Forums always been a toxic septic tank that it's best to avoid entierly to save your sanity. These gamers have become brainrotted by all these live services like Fortnite that needs endless content and fomo to enjoy a game.
Damn, I think that out of my 100+ games steam library I only have a handful of games over 200, and mostly because I was a broke kid and then college student who could only afford a new game every blue moon so I had to replay what I had, plus the ones that I got in the form of Linux ISOs.
@@Redsword603 - Youre not wrong there. Playing HD2 and popping to the Steam forums to catch up on the latest 'banter' and all i ever saw was people complaining about the latest nerfs and the ensuing arguments along with other trolls pushing for DEI crap and all that lark - one of the things that put me off playing HD2 (aside from just naturally burning out on it)
@@Shaabhekh I love how we still have this mentality that we were just "complaining" about nerfs. Arrowhead has apologized and reverted most of them and even given them a buff on top of that. Plus arrowhead has now since disavowed dei and is "making changes in the company". Quit huffing your own farts.
I'm a step further. If I see a game with a battle pass I don't play it seasons I only tollerate in games like PoE where the seasons are based on "do you like this mechanic to make your next playthrough different." When season just means "new paid cash shop items" I ignore it.
This. It's a way of "chaining" you to the game (FOMO, timed exclusive items and maps/game modes), and in the end making the player spend more in it. Fuck this model of service
The gaming community used to shun games for having microtransactions. The upcoming generation has been so indoctrinated that they won't play games without them. One day they'll just reinvent the arcade where you have to swipe your credit card before each match.
Don't care about that there isn't enough base content for the price. If people ask I say don't waste your money. Less than 15 missions on release for 60 is a scam.
@@T57CustodianBruh. It has a campaign, pvp, a bunch of cosmetics to unlock and class progression in the coop. There is absolutely enough content for the price.
I wouldn't go so far, Games Workshop is dicey at best on what they do and or allow to use the license. There are countless terrible Warhammer games, including some scummy ones.
It sounds more like industry shills, or shill pilled dupes, trying to justify Live Service FOMO bullshit rather than a fan complaining that the cosmetic pack that they don’t have to buy not containing skins they don’t have to have, and will always be available for them to buy.
They are literally missing the dopamine drip they are more used to. Makes me kind of glad that I learned to enjoy games before season pass advent calendars and dailies.
Yeah, this smacks of a false flag. I have no idea how real people could review a game poorly because it doesn't cost a whole bunch of money on a regular basis...
It looks like a new trend. Same thing is with V Rising - a new content that was added was free (even collab with Castlevania), the only thing that player actually pays for are cosmetics.
@@LEMONCART Yep, its 100% a generational thing. Since gaming is much more universal now, we've got a generation of gamers who've grown accustomed to that constant drip. Waiting for content isn't something they've ever had to experience....they dont realize how unhealthy it actually is for the life of a game, and why there are yearly releases of sports games or bi-yearly of shooters. They've also never experienced the hype of waiting for that long awaited expansion or sequel to come out for that game you've played the shit out of over and over and over again, then going to the store and waiting in line to get your hands on your copy.
Not every game needs to be endlessly grinded and infused with skins. Saber has been pretty clear that this game isn't a traditional live service game and not to expect it to be. Some gamers will never be satisfied.
doesn't mean they get to reduce the amount of what are essentially PNG's and color pallets, to an utter snails pace, considering that a good chunk of those are already in the game just... waiting. 40K is renowned for its customization and kit bashing, so to limit the actual amount of things to customize with, to a trickle every few months, is a slap in the face.

You arent forced to play anything, I like to be invested into a game long term and Space Marine just doesn't offer that. Theres a reason games like WoW, Warframe, PoE and Destiny are as popular as they are, people like the grind.
AS someone who has refused to play any game with a battle pass. The fact that it is possible to miss on content because of "seasons" is laughable. And even more laughable that people accept it.
@@rompevuevitos222that was always the neat thing about DRG: you miss nothing. Every item you could unlock through the battle pass was added to the normal loot pool after the season ended.
Its actually understandable that people that grew up on the "nickel and dime" model would find something like this to be odd, id probably feel that way too if my formative gaming years were full of the brain rot that was (and kinda still is) prevalent within the last decade.
I think the biggest takeaway I have with stuff like this is the reminder that so many people desperately WANT to be taking part in a predatory business model from games because when a game comes out that doesn't do all the predatory shit while delivering on an incredible experience people still whine and complain about there not being a predatory business model in place.
TBH it's because this has been going on for long enough that the general populace has been conditioned to expect this as normal. It's _normal_ to have companies to try to milk you for everything that they can. It's _normal_ to have them try their best to give less while taking more. It's _normal_ for them to try to distract from their behind the scenes business actions. This has been going on for decades, and there are adults which this is the first experience on a video game where it isn't trying to completely prey on them for everything that they're can give up.
@@7RicolmE7 What it really needs is 2000 premium currency 99 level 30-day battle pass that requires all but two hours of those 30 days to grind to completion, filled entirely with items that will never be seen again with about $2 worth of premium currency throughout it so you still have to put more money in the system to partake in the next 30 day battle pass system! Phuc yea, that's gaming! Slurp out all of my savings, daddy! If I'm not spending money, then I'm not having fun! Also, make it so the premium currency sale that would let you afford the battle pass makes it so you have just enough premium currency left over to not buy anything so that people are compelled to spend more money to get rid of the extra money that they wasted!
It's worth remembering that these complaints are literally a fraction of a fraction of the playerbase. Like, a handful of salty people in an ocean of people either playing the game and having fun or passing on it because it doesn't tickle their funny bone. Kind of like the recreational social activists that attack games with female characters that aren't shaped like Doctor Eggman.
@@T57Custodian I'd rather have less content of good quality than more of shit quality. I haven't played the game yet, but considering the praise it's getting, I'm inclined to think they've made something of good quality.
In an industry where statistics show gamers playing older games substantially more than new ones, wouldn’t “out of date” be completely in line with what the audience wants?
Whaling isn't about survival, it's about making as much money as possible (or at least trying to). It is far from necessary to create a sustainable business.
And that's very deliberate... An Update focuses on fixes and changes the gameplay. As the Cosmetics aren't doing that, they've adopted the industry moniker to make it more understandable to as many potential customers.
I can see new maps and modes and whatnot: Actual content. It seems people just want cosmetics and a bunch of non stop skins rather than an actual game.
This game is actually a breath of fresh air since games nowadays feel like they just plot how to squeeze more and more money out of you. This game feels like a love letter to gamers. It’s literally how gaming was in the early 2000s it’s not overly monetized and doesn’t feel like a cash grab. The industry has been slowly training gamers to get used to paying for every little thing and breaking that pattern can catch people off guard.
I'm a DRG player, DRG is also a premium game with a "live service" layout, but tons of content and things to do. It has "seasons" with battle passes for each one, but each "season" is a year long and, as of the most recent season, you can also go back to any pass you missed and complete them, no FOMO. (also note, before the update, any missed battle pass items could be found randomly in chests that appeared in missions so there was no fear of missing items to begin with). Each season also adds new mission types, enemies, and goals for the player to do and all are permanent additions to the main game (the appearance of the missions though are lowered). DRG also does have cosmetics, but the majority of them are free and can be found in-game and any paid ones are bought externally and simply there to support the game's ongoing build. So I say, yes it may be boring to wait for new content, but it is always new gameplay and always worth it (except for septic spreaders). ROCK and STONE!
Those devs, and a tiny-few others (like the PoE devs) I give them the award of "We don't truly deserve them" title as they fully provide plenty (and keep on) for their initial asking prices in this current VG market.
Im an old school gamer. I bought and played the game mainly for the single player....which I thoroughly enjoyed. I was more that happy for what I got when I paid full price.
funny i play mostly for pve content and hate campaign mode with a passion, but this is the only game for which im enjoying the single player on top of pve.
I feel like most people didn't go into Space Marine 2 as a "live service" I bought it for the campaign, got my fill and put it on the shelf. Completely satisfied with my purchase. The sooner you start the never-ending treadmill of skins and battle passes the sooner you get the Pokémon crossover pack that destroys all immersion.
Exactly, so many people are afraid of just finishing a game and being done. Like I may come back here or there to check out the Salamanders stuff, but if I never touch it again I've gotten everything I needed out of the experience already.
I honestly came into the game expecting only a campaign and was very excited about that, but then I saw the operations and was VERY happy to play through those! But then I got every achievement, every class max level, all cosmetics and was finished, so I just come back every now and then. But recently the game bugged and removed all my levels soo… I get to grind again!
We've reached the point now where zoomers are mad that they aren't getting MORE nickel'd and dime'd by a dev because they aren't constantly rotating hordes of dlc's through the store to spend hundreds of dollars on. That's where we are now with video games. The people who rang the alarm 15-20 years ago on this were entirely right. The new generation of gamers have been groomed, and they dont just see a game constantly reaching in their pocket as normal now. They see it as a positive thing. If your game doesn't add $10-$15 skins every couple of weeks that quickly rotate out of the store never to be seen again to create an intense FOMO feeling, ITS SHIT.
Very true, but Saber did get that mode at least right. At launch as well! It may be lacking in MP maps and modes currently, but Holy Emp is balanced with the classes, and is actually fun to play. It, the co-op, and the actually well done in length of the main campaign, Space Marine II gives plenty for its original asking price...something we rarely get nowadays.
@@ChapterMasterValrak I couldn't agree more to this, yes I love the new operations that they added in, but I wish PvP got more love. The game is fantastic.
@@johnpupkin509there is balance. Literally every class can counter every class and effectively if played correctly. The only thing that can be considered unbalanced is the shock grenades
I'm getting back into Space Marine 2 and I looked at the Dark Angels DLC and expected it to be $20+, but to my shock it's only $10! I didn't really care for the Ultramarines DLC cosmetics, so I didn't get the season pass. I'm very pleased that this DLC is a reasonable price and I will support it. Would I want more, yes, but I can't complain with this price.

We’ve done it guys, we’ve finally found the MOST WRONG STEAM REVIEWER Imagine actually ranting against the game that got it right 🤦🏻♂️
you have an entire generation of gamers who grew up with live service games. They expect that when they buy a game the game grows, adds content fast to keep a playerbase strong. Thing is as we all know this leads to many games failing of focusing on mp only. So when a game that comes out like sm2, that uses older business model from say the early 2000s, these people get confused why the games not adding new content every few months and start to call it bad, or lacking content and the stupid " dead game" gets thrown around.. In my opinion, if thats what has to happen to actually get good games again, do it, and maybe we can create a new gen of gamers who dont expect every game to be some live service garbage.
As someone who grew up playing the PS2, Gamecube, the OG Xbox, and into the seventh console generation, SM2 is how games used to be. Games used to be games, you played them and had fun. Now it's all leaderboards, KDA, and wanting to be the next big streamer. These players and kids today have no idea how things were before battlepasses and loot boxs. It's sad because they'll never actually get to enjoy games like we did back then without paying $250 and then still not getting a finished game.
"Out of date" isn't the right phrase. SM2 is a "neo-traditional" or "modernized classic" game. It tries to syncretize the best elements of old and new gaming from the perspective of the player. I hope the trend catches on.
I personally find that most of Space Marine 2's offerings are, frankly, refreshing. That said...I'm disappointed that each of these Chapter Champion packs aren't giving a variant of the Champion thing for every single class. It's frustrating and disappointing that the Ultramarine is a Heavy, the Dark Angel is a Bulwark, the Salamander is a Scout...etc. Every chapter uses all of the archetypes, and there are some very interesting ways that they can explore chapter variations on all of those classes.
Imagine a Space Marine receiving their bolter from a Mechanicus Magos and saying, "I want mine to be colored green!" and the Magos just saying, "Alright, I'll just take that back. Here's a secondhand Lasgun from a Guardsman who drowned in a torrent of Tyranid acid bile. Also, no prayers for it's Machine Spirit. Also also, we're skipping your company's next scheduled munitions shipment."
My only complaint ab the Dark Angel DLC... is that I can't change the color on the champion skin to make my Bulwark a Deathwing. You know, the Dark Angel detatchment KNOWN for using melee weapons and shields! That's it. That's the only complaint. Other games charge $20 for ONE skin. I got a crap ton of stuff for half the price. Im extremely happy even if my favorite detarchment of my favorite chapter was butchered because I can't change the green to bone white
Or if you want to recreate a successor chapter or homebrew chapter. This game needs to be less anal about customization. Successors and homebrew exist.
@@changer_of_ways_999 I'm not sure how true it is but I heard they have to deal a lot with GW when it comes to adding new stuff and GW can be very weird about it for some reason.
All I can say is that STOP WHINING about this game being not a normal live service and is actually consumer friendly because guess who is the IP rights holder that actually have a say in how this game pans out GAMES WORKSHOP and for those who are into the 40k hobby would know they are absolutely the EA/Ubislop/Activision of the Tabletop war gaming scene, if they get wind of people complaining about this game being “not live service enough” then they will take it as a sign that they should demand Saber start implementing all the typical scummy tactics we are so used to seeing nowadays so BUTTON IT!!!
Exactly, imagine actually whining for a live service, this is why I hate modern gaming audiences, I've seen steam users leaving negative reviews because they find a game too difficult
Imagine they see it and go "Wait, why didn't you make it like FIFA? People want it! Let's rerelease the game each year or require people to pay $60 to unlock access!"
Considering the literal sea of WH games that have been kinda meh, arguably flops, and Games Workshop did nothing, i honestly think they care more about the fact that people actually like a game made in their franchise. Darktide wasn't as popular on release as Space Marine 2, nor was Warhammer Total War for that matter (that grew over time, partly because it's a less popular genre). Vermintide aswell was never super popular. Space Marine 2 is out of the gate the most popular Warhammer franchise game, probably ever made i wouldn't be surprised if this went more mainstream than Space Marine 1 considering gaming is more mainstream today than when that released. As the franchise creator, and having already been paid the licensing fee, they can only win from it's popularity. They probably have dividends and some sort royalties on further sales, but they aren't the publisher either. They literally just rent out the IP, so even if they wanted to screw with the game, it's not like it would be massively beneficial for them. Also, to their credit, we have a huge range of completely different games made in the WH franchise, from third person action horde shooter to 4X and real-time strategy. MMOs and CRPGs. It is both a gift and a curse, but they have shown themselves willing to give what seems like total control to the developers.
So, instead of overwhelming the userbase with cosmetics, shops, battlepass with time limited rewards and seasons coming and going they're taking a slow-paced approach to the live-service style giving the players time to enjoy the newcontent? Where do i sign, i'll march front row to battle against the Chaos if we get more of this in the future, we need to slow the things a bit and i appreciate that
Think about it, What are currently the most Praised live service games. Space marine 2 & Helldivers 2. What do both of these games have in common? No FOMO. I went back to helldivers after a 4 month rest just before the illuminate update and....every content that was released since then was not gone. And now i have played 100 solid hours since the illuminate update. Guess whats next on the list? Space marine 2. No FOMO. Probaly will grip me another 100 hours to get trough all the new content. How many people who play fortnite ACTUALLY praise it?
What's always mystified me is why people feel so much FOMO for something no one will give a crap a out in 2 or 3 months tops and often more like 2 or 3 weeks lol
Praise Fortnite in what way? I mean, i praise it for being a fun free game with friends. Its become more accessible and better to play over its near 7 years, it has consistant updates and a great feed of custom content, now even officially made content you can play if you dont care for battle royale, its battle passes can be completed in almost any mode, its paid content is always optional. Its not a bad game at all for being free.
Exactly. People have gotten so used to consuming that a lot never stop to enjoy anything properly anymore. Everything is just "consume, consume, consume". And although Nintendo too makes a lot of games, they put a lot more effort into the details and fun of it instead on the consume part. Greed really makes you forget about enjoying life huh.
Well, this “out-of-date” game has been good enough that I’ve put almost 100 hours in since launch, whereas I don’t even bother buying or playing many “up-to-date” games.
Most zoomers really have no idea on what it is like to live in a world where modding is way more common than paid DLCs. I usually only buy games that support modding because i know how many doors than opens
I do think they might need to push out more missions variation frankly. I can grind the same stuff only so much... However I'm glad they took the battle barges idea. Maybe that will be where our mixing and real major changing of extra side machines will come up. Change things enough, maybe even a quick text narrative to make me believe that every day of playing the game is a new day of new missions. Not a story that is exactly the same. Helldivers 2 makes me believe with it's change ups and mixing and matching that every day is a new day, and every mission is all the more necessary. 🏴☠

All that was left to do was wait for the slaughter to begin on Christmas morning until dinner break. Poor Mom, the only non-gamer, was left with the dogs.
Honestly, while I’m not playing Space Marine 2 as much as I play other games, I love their current model. It makes it easy for me to step out of it, play something else, and hop back in when an update hits with new content without feeling like I missed a ton.
@brohammer10 "But how will I flex on the NOOBS who don't invest as much time as me with time-gated cosmetics! That's DESPICABLE! UNACCEPTABLE! NO, I don't need to leave my basement, those casuals just need to git gud!!!"
This game was massively misunderstood for something its not. When i saw the marketing and hype people were expecting this massive in depth long term engagement game youll grind forever and will keep your attention forever. Instead its just space marine but sequel, a neat campaign, rudimentary multiplayer. But better, the melee is more engaging, the multiplayer also has proper coop missions (with horde on the way). I expected that, im happy with the game (the campaign felt rushed and like it was missing a mission or two), the multiplayer is satisfactory. They did massively drop the ball on chaos customization, that part is a massive issue that shouldnt have happened. You play it whenever you want a space marine power fantasy fix, people wanted destiny 2 but tps. Completely bungled expectations.
A space marine that is forced to spam invincibility frame ("dodging") isn't a power fantasy. A power fantasy would be the ability to block/parry every hit.
@@polomarco7053 no idea what you played, at all, cause im not sure it was sm2 granted i havent played lethal yet, and i guess you must do dodge only if you take a block sword either case its a silly argument, since max difficulties shouldnt be the default judging criteria (besides i still think youd be wrong), and choosing a playstyle that forces you to dodge only is your choice and not the games fault

It really is crazy how much people say they dont want predatory live service but then expect every game to have endless content via live service elements. Even when games like this have explicitly shown from the start that they’re not those kinds of games. Guys, stop looking for another endless addiction.
Games that have predatory fomo business practices that force you to play upwards of 40-60 hours to unlock everything before it disappears forever. brainrot players: "TAKE MY MONEY" Space Marine 2: Here's some cool stuff we made for you to use if you wanted to look like your favorite chapter from the lore, you get it all instantly, its there forever and its the price of a burger. @@Armetar but its currency you get and have saved up just from playing the game, so if we're gonna split hairs yes you can unlock them instantly if you already have the currency which you most likely will, unlike other battle passes where its exp you have you have to grind every season
All these people bashing SM2 having an outdated "live service" model are the reason why ubisoft, EA and Activision keep doing what they're making especially. As someone who's been gaming since the 90s, Space Marine 2 is fine that it is and it's reminiscent of those old school games like Halo 3 from the 2000s.
If this is out of date then make more games like this because it's fun as hell. Maybe that's why it's out of date, the game is made to have fun and not grind any passes, good old Gears of War, Halo 2, God of war 1-3 times
Space marine 2 was one of the only good games this year. Based and zero DEI. I think you should count this as a win. Anyone complaining needs to accept the lesser of two evils. I’d rather have Space Marine 2 than Veilguard or anything Ubisoft related.
This game and company iare awesome! When it launched, I played it nonstop for about two weeks. Since then, I play it about once or twice a week for a few hours with my friends. I plan to buy every DLC, and continue to play it every week for a couple of years. Its just good fun, and if I miss a week or two, I don't feel like I have "missed out" on anything. The same game, with new content, is always there waiting for the next time I hop on. Its great!
Kind of reminds me of how Helldier's "Passes" are different from other ones, mainly in that they never expire so you can go get them whenever you want and there's no rush or stress about it. Oh no, you missed Fires of Freedom!!! Calm down, its still right there.
This game was designed to be a solo & co-op game, priced based on content at launch. The game is worth the initial price tag, based on the story and content. The fact they’re doing anything on top of that, is a bonus to anyone that wants to partake in it. I fail to see the point of the controversy and negative reviews. Why would people expect live service out of this? Why would you want a studio to make this live service? Live service is the problem with the gaming industry right now.
I think its worth mentioning the 'big winners' on selling a game with gameplay for money as a long term model, to remind investors that this can pay off big. I remember picking up minecraft for less than 15 quid, and it had been cheaper before then. Its now selling for 30, and people don't mind paying that. I don't know if microsoft published their sales, but it isn't small potatoes, and thats before examining secondary payoffs like driving people to the microsoft store etc. A relatively small amount of new stuff got made for minecraft by developers compared to a live service title each year, but each addition justifies a potential increase to the game's list price *because* the value proposition to the customer gets better. If space marine and other games are finally catching up to one of the most studied success stories in gaming history when writing their buisness plans, then its about damn time.
The problem with everlasting seasons is the everlasting grind. Games build on this just want to entice you to spend extra money because the clock is ticking on the current season. As a gamer I just want to enjoy my game without getting notified by pop-ups, highlighted menus and icons that remind me about this season's missions, rewards and other fomo-content. Just let me play the game, thank you very much.
Every young/modern/‘what have you’ gamer have their dopamine systems completely overloaded by those live service games. Totalbiscuit and Jim Sterling warned us as far back in 2012 about these practices. I think everyone needs a chill pill and enjoy this type of content. It’s better for the customer and for the developer. Worse for the investors.. but we don’t care. Have you ever see them care?! Right!
Warframe has had a similar model for a decade, but nobody ever talks about it. You have premium currency that you can spend on cosmetics. All other upgrades that can also be purchased can be earned in game provided you have finished the relevant story arc. The only thing that's sort of limited are slots for weapons and warframes, but even they can be earned in a season pass that appears 3 times a year... thats free, and also allows you to buy other goodies cosmetics and upgrades. The kicker is, you can trade items for premium currency with other players, so if you don't have time you can buy an upgrade from another player that has farmed it. And that player can use it to unlock weapon / warframe slots or for cosmetics. And all the content is free for all at the time it comes out. No paywalls. The only content gating is the requirement to have finished the previous content before moving on to the new content, for mechanical and story reasons. Maybe have a look at their model. Well the premium currency is also trading on time convenience, yes anything is grindable but much of it is also there in the store if you just don't wanna be arsed, or you aren't up to date (or like getting potatoes on demand). I think that's entirely fair so long as there's a way to farm that stuff in game if you don't mind the grind.
I think there is a main quest but you bave to play for a long time before getting it, hell you end up getting to create your own character in the endgame.
@@christiandauz3742 if you rush it, you can complete the story in ~50 hours, but in reality it will be somewhere between 80 and 100, which is a while, but it's a really good and unique, if confusing, story. You don't need to grind much for it, and whatever you do need to grind for is still plenty useful in the endgame. There used to be a pretty bad grind (looking at you necramech), but it got nerfed into the ground and now takes nowhere near as long. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask! : )
Same for GTAV - it's a complete game that has a value for its price in the singleplayer campaign already. GTAO is just a nice addition which could've been counted as a live-service, but, first, it's completely optional and, second, you totally can play it any time with barely missing anything and get all the content without paying at all. And if R* didn't screwed up with the game's artistic direction (looking at you, futuristic weaponized flying vehicles), that would've been one of the better examples of how to make a 10-year lifecycle online game.
Yeah just because a game has multiplayer doesn't make it a live service game, that can be the same for the old cod games. But live service is everywhere now, and people think multiplayer equals live service now
i wish more games do this. Halo infinite lost cause of it being free. If it was like space marine i think they would go for a similar model. But man, i really wish more games are like this. They bring u content for free, and additional stuff if u want u can buy it, but it isnt into ur face. If u want u can buy it and if u dont its okey. Like having new skins on home menu is so annoying
Whenever I see battlepass or seasons, ever since Diablo 3, I just skip these games lately. What sucks even more is content that goes away because "the season has passed".
Saber i feel was going for a more unique experience instead of a one size fits all with the cosmetics in Space Marine 2, and i love it. It feels less corpo and more "We actually have soul in this and care about it".
It should also be said in response to the comment about developers doing something @11:30, We are already seeing the first big pushes to have paid cosmetics created by AI and not even by genuine developers or designers that have a plan for creativity or an eye for consistency. It means in those games these microtransactions will only come faster and faster as AI tools are used to pump them out on a weekly basis.
It's not out of date. Most players are just used to predatory, in your face monetization on other live service games where 80% of the things that are included in bundles are things that you'll never use but you're forced to buy the expensive entire bundle price. Honestly, I'd rather have these Warhammer bundles than the bundle prices offered by what Activision offers in their live service games. *cough cough* Diablo 4 bundles *cough cough*
While I agree with a large portion of the video, this video is very disingenuous to the negative reviews involving the DLC packs, the 2nd and 3rd reviews you showed on screen at 3:24 are the bulk of the reviews. The main issue people have is that the after spending real life money on the DLC packs you need to unlock the content you just bought with in game currency. The champion skin, while amazing, can't be customized. Which creates a problem when you want to do a successor chapter instead of the Founding chapter, same goes for the weapons.
I mean battlepass is based off that model of pay and progress to unlock. For this game I don’t see it as much of an issue because 1.) its never leaving and optional based on what legion you are interested in 2.) it’s quick to unlock everything in the game as you progress, I mean it feels like that because I’ve already unlocked everything in base game within a month, and both DLC content heraldries as they came out. TBH my complaint with the game is the lack of content for multiplayer. Also I assume the point of the champion pack skin and why you can’t customize is due to the lore of the armor on the skin dedicated to the class
" modern " gamers, it's mostly the younger crowd that has that mentality, and these issues. One they will look back how much they got scammed, or they leeched their parents. These people care so much about their cosmetics that they want the COD treatment and add Unicorn finishing moves to the game. Laugh now, that's what the COD crowd would do too years ago.
It's not though sadly. Plenty of folks my age that have a real thing for battlepasses and I was around for both of Reagan's terms in the Whitehouse. It feeds a certain mentality that thrives on ownership, the FOMO is as much to lord it over people that missed out as getting it for themselves because they wanted it. It's easy to say it's the kids but even the Z's and Alpha aren't fans of this crap, predatory behaviour might be harder to spot when it's the norm but it doesn't mean they don't eventually.
I remember people begging for daily quests to be added to Meet Your Maker when the lack of daily quests was one of the reasons I was able to put 100 hours into it. As soon as they added dailies I couldn't stomach playing it anymore because I could feel it trying to waste my time doing things I didn't choose to do. It's wild how people want those live service hooks to be put in their brain so they can stop thinking and play mindlessly.
If SM2 is out of date, then I want more like that… the now out of date games are the ones everyone literally say were the best games. Black Ops, BF3/4, Modernwarfare… Gears… anyone else?
Here is what happened. Space Marine 2 was meant for the smaller audience of Warhammer 40k fans, more specifically the Space Marine fans from the first game, and not the wider audience that it has reached. Space Marine 2 has reached far beyond the Warhammer 40k fanbase and has sold millions and millions of copies that it should not have. The sales are unnatural and were not planned for. This is because the game came out at a time where Bricky's videos on Warhammer 40k lore were gaining a lot of attention. Long story short, most of those negative reviews are from people whom are not necessarily Warhammer 40k fans and were expecting something more along the line of mainstream content. There are relatively few actual Warhammer 40k fans that would give the game or any of its content a negative review for any reason at all. The game has its flaws but in the eyes of most 40K fans they do not warrant a negative review anyway.
I remember when season pass was buying dlcs (new content, boss, gear, map) in bulk. As i get older the joy i felt in my favorite hobby (my only hobby) is now nearly completely gone
I usually skip any game that has “Seasons” or “Battle Pass”. I’m old-school - I expect to buy a finished product and not into an ongoing pay-for-play. Space Marine II respects the consumer, and I can get behind that.
9:48 what scares me the most as a indie game developer is server cost. If you have a game that use server that mean you constantly loosing money. Where that money come from. Usually mtx that is. One time only payment + server cost is scary idea to me

I find the seasonal model in modern games disgusting, as someone who played D2 going from D1 where content was dry for long periods but had higher quality when it finally dropped is far more preferable to the lackluster seasonal content D2 dripfeeds on a tiemgated weekly basis and then deletes from the game to force players to play out of FOMO. I really like how in D1 they dropped all the new content too and u could play it at ur leasure, they didnt restrict u to timegates like D2 to regulate player population retetion. Everything about D2s content delivery model feels like its meant to manipulate its player (which is it, they actually have a world renowned phycologist who develops these systems in place). These timegates D2 has in place and constant bad filler content gives ppl a reason to log in every day and see the microtransation store and see what its new weekly offering is too. Its all just 1 big manipulative model and wish the D2 community could see that. Idk why ppl need a constant need for new content now, D1 had its dry peroids but itfelt great to just step back from the game and play other games that released during that peroid and have no FOMO on anything. It felt great to have quality content drop instead of filler crap. It felt great not being forced to log in weekly to avoid missing out on something. Plus these constant releases make for so many bugs worming their way into the game, and optimisation issues as everything is rushed to the finish line and beacuse they only have time to add stuiff quality control goes out the window and fixing stuff never happens so the sandbox becomes unbalanced ect. To account for the sandbox balancing issue instead of fixin the issue they added an item that lets u choose seasonal perks that get taken away from u so that the new meta related to those perks r OP compared to other stuff which is just thier way to covering up an issue to help vary gameplay in an artifical way.
Let the tourist leave. Tourist are bad for the gaming industry. Let the true gamers have games like Space Marine 2 and let tourist have games like Battlefield or CoD
"Where are the shackles? Where are the chains!? How am I supposed to justify the Time that I INVEST into this COMMUNITY and ACTIVE SPACE without FORCED INCENTIVE!?!?!" They're cosplaying perfectly as Hiveworld human-farm slaves, gotta give them some credit there.
At the end of the first or 2nd season of BF2042, some youtuber asked how we felt about how much Content DICE had put out. My response was that BF4's Premium had put out twice the content in half the time at a lower price than buying skins in 2042.
If I had to critique something I would say that the game came out a bit lacking in content and the content that's actually there is very good, but feels kinda old. In my personal experience Space Marine 2 is most comparable with Gears of War 2 in terms of gameplay, game modes and overall "vibe". I loved Gears of War 2 and played it to death, but that was back in 2008-2009, for today's standards it's a bit too old to thrive in the modern environment. Space Marine has a great single player campaign and great PvE missions, but you can run the same exact missions only so many times before you're bored. Just like in GOW2 the campaign and Horde mode were amazing but at some point it just got too repetitive. I'm not super into PvP, but even if I was I gotta say that the PvP of Space Marine 2 isn't really anything special honestly. It's serviceable but it's not really amazing. That being said, I have no real issue with the game. The game did exactly what I expected it to do and delivered exactly what I expected it to deliver. I played it when it released, loved it, completed everything that I cared about completing, now I'm playing other stuff and I'll go back to play it more when more content has been released (I have yet to try the new difficulty mode and the 2 new PvE missions). I don't mind letting it cook for a long time, I don't need a game to keep me engaged 24/7 for a whole year, I'm fine with taking breaks and coming back months later. Going back to the comparison with GOW2, the Horde mode was fun but got repetitive after a while. When I played Horde in GOW3 for the first time my head nearly fucking exploded. Random game modifiers, more enemy variety, traps that you could build and even upgrade as the game progressed, etc... Space Marine 2 will also add an horde mode near the end of their first year of content updates. If it's a simple, basic, horde mode like the one in GOW2 then it might be a problem, but if it's something more similar to what GOW3 did then it has the potential to be incredible and have nigh infinite replay value. They did some amazing ground work with Space Marine 2, they can slowly build stuff on top and keep adding stuff over time and truly make something amazing. Imagine if next year they release a DLC with new story content and PvE missions and they add a new enemy faction. I'd be more than glad to pay whatever they want for it and I'd be more than glad if they kept expanding this game and releasing new content for the next 10 years

Sadly not many publishers will take notes out of that example the game makes, as corporate greed won't allow them to do so ...

We've reached the point now where zoomers are mad that they aren't getting MORE nickel'd and dime'd by a dev because they aren't constantly rotating hordes of dlc's through the store to spend hundreds of dollars on. Very true, but Saber did get that mode at least right. At launch as well! It may be lacking in MP maps and modes currently, but Holy Emp is balanced with the classes, and is actually fun to play.
It, the co-op, and the actually well done in length of the main campaign, Space Marine II gives plenty for its original asking price...something we rarely get nowadays.

you have an entire generation of gamers who grew up with live service games.
Valid comment, reasonably worded.

Yeahh their customization is surprisingly lack luster
I think the other Dark Angel pieces allow changes but yeah it sucks to not have that winged helmet customizable.
Deathwing are all 1st company in terminator armour, no? So they probably would be told "no" by GW, assuming they have to give the okay.

Exactly, imagine actually whining for a live service, this is why I hate modern gaming audiences, I've seen steam users leaving negative reviews because they find a game too difficult
yep. i prefer if the modern audiences stops being entitled. btw same audience that can't read anything past a 4th grade level.
Just look at total war Warhammer 3 as an example. You can sell a house and still not have enough money to buy all the content in this game
4:54 Bro thats just Ainz Ool Gown from Overlord LOL. Damn I got excited thinking of an Overlord crossover but it turns out, that isnt Ainz. Sad!
Consumers gonna consume
That what Daddy Government and Mommy Corporation raised us to be! Good little loyal consumers who have no opinions of our own 😊

Its great!

Meanwhile WARFRAME does all of this being 100% free...
You guys forget some games even exists
Haters going to hate specifically when you succeed
6:55 that conversation LITERALLY happened to me and friends. That is insane
Just happened with Marvel Rivals. $5 battle pass was hard to pass up.
I love what Sabre is doing, I hope more games are created “out of date” in the future
Share more positive / moral monetization strategies like Warhammer and Warframe.
Do you need to grind to beat the Main story? How long is the main story?
@@christiandauz3742 tbh idk if there is a main story. I've only dabbled in it, and it's kinda like destiny 2
There used to be a pretty bad grind (looking at you necramech), but it got nerfed into the ground and now takes nowhere near as long. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask! : )
SM2 is a Live serivce? Since when?
A game I bought, played, finished and then left. WTF is wrong with current playerbase...
But live service is everywhere now, and people think multiplayer equals live service now
@@Hunter-zf7rt No, because they add new content, that does make it live service. Has nothing to with multiplayer, never did.

i wish more games do this.

MTX and live service predates the iPad generation.
If anything you should be blaming the millennials that ate it up from MMOs and Valve games.
"We made game, game good, you pay, you play, you enjoy."
"Thankyou, game is good, me happy gamer"
Such a crazy idea
*doesn't include predatory monetary practices and gambling*
"must be out of date". Good, I'll buy.
I never thought of the comparison to sports
Now I understand my instinctual Hate for modern gaming industry
I remember when season pass was buying dlcs (new content, boss, gear, map) in bulk. As i get older the joy i felt in my favorite hobby (my only hobby) is now nearly completely gone
You mean they have integrity unlike most other games you've mentioned.
ppl complaining about this are probably also waiting for destiny 2 to release new content
I usually skip any game that has “Seasons” or “Battle Pass”. I’m old-school - I expect to buy a finished product and not into an ongoing pay-for-play.
Space Marine II respects the consumer, and I can get behind that.
Love seeing all my battle-brothers unite with this one. Space Marine 2 being out of date is a good thing.

But of course it gonna have offline mod as well or private server system.
It's okay when Helldivers 2 does it?
I’ve got my black Templar in SM2 and I’m happy that weapons aren’t overly customisable, I like just keeping the dark military aspect
Let the tourist leave. Tourist are bad for the gaming industry. Let the true gamers have games like Space Marine 2 and let tourist have games like Battlefield or CoD
"Where are the shackles? Where are the chains!? How am I supposed to justify the Time that I INVEST into this COMMUNITY and ACTIVE SPACE without FORCED INCENTIVE!?!?!"
They're cosplaying perfectly as Hiveworld human-farm slaves, gotta give them some credit there.
At the end of the first or 2nd season of BF2042, some youtuber asked how we felt about how much Content DICE had put out. My response was that BF4's Premium had put out twice the content in half the time at a lower price than buying skins in 2042.
2026 for space wolves sounds in line with 11th edition of tabletop game which is rumoured to have a refresh of the space wolves range.
I'd be more than glad to pay whatever they want for it and I'd be more than glad if they kept expanding this game and releasing new content for the next 10 years
I currently can't get enough of the game. Love the lethal challenge.
