I have been in that mine - that elevator was scary (to me) 40 years ago. Thankful everyone is out of there now and condolences to the family of the one that didn't survive.
I was in that mine 40 years ago as well and I also just went this May. It definitely felt sketchy. It might be closed permanently now.
Ive done this mine tour twice , 10 years ago and 30 years ago. Enjoyed it both times .

Going deep underground in a rickety old elevator is not something I would ever pay for. Yikes! Quite the herd thinner!
This story has me considering how weird life is. I was just in Colorado less than a week ago where we declined the offer of a $30 gold mine tour. It sounded fun, but claustrophobic, so we decided against it. This is super scary. I feel so bad for the person who died. These old mines looked like they had old working parts. I was in Argo, totally different mine, but still got goosebumps hearing about this.
Seems to me like an old mineshaft is not a safe place for tourism. What were they thinking man?
