This is so beautifully and purely performed, a musical gem. I often attended master classes by Margulis in the historic Kauffhaus hall in Freiburg, starting in 1985, but only as a passive listener. I was nowhere near the level for it back then. But it occurred to me that I have never heard Scriabin's poems more beautiful and light than his. He was not just a gifted pianist. but incredibly gifted and refreshing as a teacher. For me he was a genius, and an extremely likeable one at that!
I knew him since my years of study at the Leningrad Conservatory ( then). The last time we were together at the Festival in Obidosh, Portugal( more than 10 years ago. He gave a wonderful performance of Brahms Intermezzi. He died shortly after that Festival... sad.....
Thanks very much for posting this! I've admired Margulis's playing since he released a Scriabin recording back in the 1980s. Terrific pleasure to see this recent performance.
His incomparable depth of tone...fluid and deep as the ocean. You are missed, Prof. Margulis.

Amazing pianist, very original interpretation of the piece.

I just discovered this great pianist, wooooow.....
Vitaly was a genius. Very original and beautiful!
Magnificent. He should have been recorded by a major label with top sound engineering.
Rest in Peace Mr. Margulis. You will be dearly missed by not only the piano world but the music world as well.

learning this as well.Have before and will take up again,I weep all the way through
The man IS music.
Beautiful. But for me, this Barcarolle belongs to the old Horowitz. His various live recordings are haunting.
Pletnev has played it too. A bit dry, IMHO.
Beautiful. Echoes of Gershwin’s Summertime in this tune
lovely. how old was Rachmaninov when e wrote this?
Exquisite! Thank you yuzusugar
best original
Beautiful! Thanks for posting. --James Boyk
