  • This is the final retrospective video! Learn what I've been up to in 2021 as I wrap up this series for another decade. Should I do this again when I turn 60 (assuming UA-cam is still around then)? Tell me in the comments below.

Wine (especially red wine) is heavily loaded with "fructan," one of the FODMAPS (sugars) that many people's digestive system has trouble processing. Same with me.

My gastroenterologist had me do the entire FODMAP thing, because that was his thinking too. Turns out I have no problems with FODMAPS though. An endoscopy revealed that I have an inflamed stomach lining and wine (or alcohol, in general) can also increase acid production, which aggravates the inflammation. Ever since I stopped drinking, the pain has been gone. No other FODMAPS cause me problems, so my gastroenterologist thinks its the alcohol itself that's the issue.

@@Kleineganz Oh right - yes wine is highly acidic. Good that you don't have to deal with all the FODMAP nightmare though. Unfortunately I wasn't so lucky - my FODMAP testing results were not what I was hoping for, but I've learnt to deal with it as best as I can. I try to look on the bright side - at least it keeps my weight stable lol. :)
