Wow, the entire talk was pretty dynamic and life changing; hitting every aspect of what makes “good character” in a person…(and bad!) the end of the segment really changed my perspective on how to approach life…I didn’t know how to have fun anymore! It’s so weird to hear you Doc. Mike, talk about how a new challenge to introduce in your life, was to play! To have fun, to play…these aspects of my life have been so “unnecessary” for so many years that I couldn’t understand why it made sense to indulge in something that was “pointless”…which I realized, grit in the long run actually doesn’t have enough strength to sustain my life as much as joy outperforms it…Angela says, “…Having fun is voluntarily overcoming unnecessary obstacles”, oh my god! That perspective changes my life approach completely!! How to have fun? How to approach fun again?…What is the point of all of that wasted time doing something “unnecessary”, or “ridiculous”?…because….Having fun is a skill (ok, so I will need practice then) to OVERCOME unnecessary obstacles…to sustain your human spirit with joy…really inspiring way to understand HOW to apply an understanding of learning how to have fun again!! WOWW (I’m definitely going to start on intentionally taking time to have fun now, which completely explains why my spirit has been a blob for so long) Thanks for the talk!

Amazing Conversation, I feel this left a completely different "taste" from the previous episode 5yrs ago, She sounds as smart and knowledgeable as she did before, however now it's "softer", more human, and I love that. The example by the end at the hotel is a clear example of her personal development, I really hope we have a new episode by the end of the year, or even a recurrent section every other episode with her. Thanks for the episode.

It's really interesting how Angela chose a person to meet that indirectly related to her deep dive into Grit.

Curious...What are your take aways from this conversation?
Mine was that self awareness is a key aspect of developing character ... and that happens through mindfulness meditation, journaling, and interacting with others. 😊
The other is knowing what you admire in others. 😊

My takeaway is that we all have hidden still developing strengths we don’t like to think about but figuring out what they are and what to do with them will help us
