You would wish to have ANY crowd at any DJ battle today, but you have not. And who can't blame them. Seen musically, this has absolutely NO value. Doing this stuff myself since 1996, I can say this was, is and always will be something for turntable-nerds only. No one else is and will be interested. What I don't understand though is, why they had a crowd back then for this stuff, even though it was even less crowd-compatible than nowaways...
Not me ! This crownd is not here for the music or the performance. I know that it is a part of all kinds of compétition but let the best win, not your favorite ! And I say it as a member of the Mix Master Mike team.

He really didn't have much competition, and actually, his tricks were about to get old for the crowd. Supreme didn't have to battle him, and he shouldn't have. That was karma for his not allowing that man to shine. GOD made him shine even brighter. Isn't that right, UA-cam? 😂
@@youtubeillegallydeletesacc1525 Allow me to confuse you more then, lol. I've still got an old magazine that had a review of this battle in it, and they mentioned Doug E. Fresh getting booed. The New York crowd has always been notoriously fickle, forgetting about artists after only a few years. I saw them boo Roxanne Shante around this time as well.
Supreme had skills but Mike has some sort of energy that's just undeniably the best. Idk if anybody could beat mike (unless it was like Q-Bert or something but they're both in piklz anyway which is basically like the fucking Voltron of Dj's so it's not even like one's better than the other)
The following year another San Francisco DJ won the NMS DJ Battle-- DJ 8-Ball. He and Mike kept the tradition going and battled one another at the end and the judges declared it a tie-- one round to each DJ. I'll dig that up and post it.
I was there that day. I know Supreme from New Rochelle. He didnt have to do this, and it was horrible to watch. At first, it was funny, but by the second round, you could see things just weren't working for him and he couldn't take the pressure from the crowd.
Massive props to DJ Supreme ..... Like chess he resigns... Mutual respect is what turntable battles are all about! ;) Ps the judges are observing him like " Why am I the judge..... I don't even know what he is doing!!!" MMM rocks!

It has everything to do with the quality of the performance, and Supreme's body language. He knew he was defeated before his set even ended, which is why he walked off in shame.
The whole crowd or whoever were goofies for booing Doug E. Fresh totally agree, you ain't a part of the culture with that disrespect. I don't even care if it was a coast thing, that's all origins and part of the reason why you get blessed to be a part of the culture.
The video was recorded by Mike's friends, so a lot of what you hear is from that group near the camera. I don't know about the crowd overall, but once Supreme started to mess up the crowd turned on him.
It didn’t matter what he did because Mike was light years ahead. It isn’t that difficult to hear the difference in ability and performance. It wasn’t the crowd. It was Mixmaster Mike killing it.

He was good, but all those San Fran Djs relied too much on tricks. Him, Qbert, all those dudes.
No one attacks the decks with the energy that Mike does when he goes into Beast Mode. He's pure, he's a raging fire sound!!
Got that right.❤

Lmao

Nope. He went on to Dj for Lauren Hill, fancy pants.
