    I’ve wanted one for so long too, finally picked up a 1990 regular short bed 4x4 and love it.

      Yes they are! My theory is that you need to put work into a Toy. No easy bolt on short cuts and that filters out the faint of heart.

      The Dirty Birfield that’s the truth right there. For me the old school Toyota part of it is what got me into the wheeling thing. I don’t wheel like you in any way whatsoever being I’m pretty close to stock. I totally want to build a SAS yota one day. Right now I’m just loving having my 1990 and for me the IFS does fine. I just really enjoy driving it.

    Great walk around. Been curious about a few things you had under there. Gives me more ideas for my 89.

      Long overdue, had so many messages asking things I figured it was time! Have fun building that 89!

    Dude I love your videos. These old rigs are so damn cool, and the people who really put passion into them are equally cool. My 93 Runner is absolutely my passion project, and there's no fancy truck I'd rather have. Well....unless someone wanted to give me a full throttle trophy truck. But I digress... Solid work on this rig mate!!!

    I did a SAS (leaf springs) on a 2WD 1992 back in 2000. I didn't realize that the frame kicked up at the front for additional clearance. I like your rig

    This is a sick ass rig! I’m from Fresno, CA and trail gear and marlin crawler are right around the corner😎 I have a 98 Tacoma 3.4 v6 manual, Chevy 63 rears, elocker, dual cases, Dana 44 front TG 3” springs, sky’s hanger kit, chromoly axles, 4:88, spartan up front, TG sliders and the list goes on. Love your channel keep up the good work.

    Nice rig 3 link in the front is the way to go, my dad runs 40 tsl sx2 (the heavy ones) broke one longfield on the short side, had to go studless hubs because they kept backing out from the tq. Dual t-cases and most of the mods u have done. We just bent the arm to clear the oil pan. But you have a certified rig man. I would recommend 4 linking the rear if youre able to

    After watching your video I'm fully committed to take my 84 2rz swapped toyota cross country to wheel moab, black bear pass in Colorado etc...currently making it more "road tripable" how was the drive?!?! I'm 6ft and 250lbs kinda of a tight fit for me on my single cab haha but anyway hats off to you on that journey you did and rad build! 🤙🏽

  • @jacobhendrickson8935

    So the 5.29 gears is this to help make it easier on the rest of the drivetrain? I just figured with dual cases you can get geared nicely without going so low with the diffs. I’m new to this and thought I had read most use the 4.10 ratio for some reason. I may have mis read.

    • @TheDirtyBirfield
      @TheDirtyBirfield  4 роки тому +1

      Yep, that's the theory. It makes driving on the street more tolerable with bigger tires too.

  • @nigelbseggie

    Right on Joe mint truck man I’m just down the highway from you I used to drive past it everyday on my way to VIU. Currently building up my 92 reg cab short bed and can’t wait to get it out! You running stock gears in both transfer cases?

    • @TheDirtyBirfield
      @TheDirtyBirfield  4 роки тому

      Oh heck yeah nice! Yep stock tcase gears and 5:29’s in the diffs. Welded front and rear.

    I have driven around with my tires 31x10.5r16 sticking 8 inches out from the body and never got pulled over for it but dirt road with the doors off got kind of painful with all the rocks being thrown up

    Great rig and great walk around! On your sliders what size is the square stock that welds to the frame and did you have to cut the rocker panels out of the cab or did you just notch them for each tube that goes to frame!

    • @TheDirtyBirfield
      @TheDirtyBirfield  4 роки тому

      Thanks much appreciated! They are 2x2 1/8 wall and I just notched the seam on the rocker panel at each tube. Just zipped two cuts and hammered the seam flat.

  • @tylerpearce2891
    @tylerpearce2891 4 роки тому

    What advantage do you get with the square drive line

    • @TheDirtyBirfield
      @TheDirtyBirfield  3 роки тому +1

      Strength, long slip, cheap, can make in your garage :) Spend money on other parts. A long slip thick walled round front driveshaft will cost you as much a new winch if a shop makes it for you.

    Sweet rig!
    Are the IROKS, the bias 39.5? How were they on your long drive to The Hammers?
    I'm considering getting a set.

    • @TheDirtyBirfield
      @TheDirtyBirfield  3 роки тому +1

      Yeah 39.5 bias. I swapped a set of 35 radials on and built a rack for the iroks on my trip down. Definitely wouldn’t have driven down on them. But I’ve daily driven 37s on my old truck/wheeler and they were great. If it sees a lot of street my favourite tire is a trxus mt tho.

    The rear shocks are they 14” travel

    • @TheDirtyBirfield
      @TheDirtyBirfield  4 роки тому

      That’s a great question I can’t remember! Definitely not 14” probably 10 or 12. Next time I’m under there I’ll have a look.

    • @ht_fab3525
      @ht_fab3525 4 роки тому

      The Dirty Birfield just curious I’m setting up mine right now and read that the 12” travel bilsteins dont do the 63’s justice but your looks pretty flexible! I bought the 14” they are on the way so we’ll see I might have to extend upper mount and I ordered side mount lowers 🤷🏼‍♂️ like you said if your into Toyota’s your most likely fabrication capable lol

    Curious what you run for tcase mounts and engine mounts?

    • @TheDirtyBirfield
      @TheDirtyBirfield  4 роки тому

      One stock tcase mount and one heavy duty one that looks like an old Marlin Crawler one. Stock motor mounts but I did the “Marmount” (Marlin crawler) mod where you drill a hole through the drivers motor mount and put a long bolt through it with a nut on the end. Has worked so well.

    • @ryanlord1874
      @ryanlord1874 4 роки тому
